I am having problems regarding my OBS. With Zoom it works correctly but as soon as I open OBS it freezes. it is strange because in the other room where I work I have the same operating system and the same version of OBS with the same settings and everything works correctly. Could it be that some setting in my Mac may be bothering OBS? The problem is that OBS sees the atem, but it doesn't see the camera, or if it does it is blocked.
Can you give me any suggestions?

Hey everyone! I'm holding a concert in a cinema hall in a few days and I'm responsible for the backgrounds and the sound on the concert and I want to use OBS to control all of this from my laptop. However I'm not sure how exactly I would set up OBS and make sure everything works correctly without crashing. Is there someone who had this use case? not sure if its an issue with my setup but when i updated from 30.0.2 to 30.1.1 i find some odd behavior with my video capture devices
if i add a video capture device (or capture card device which isnt available in .0.2) and set it to say my elgato or webcam, i cant modify any of the properties if i uncheck Use Preset, changing resolution seems to not do anything and the fps drop down is empty
strangely i can add a device using my 30.0.2 install and then modify it in 30.1.1 and it seems to work just fine, anyone else have a similar issue?
for comparison it looks like this if im looking at 30.0.2 or on a device added by it when in 30.1.1
oh just found another quirk, i reordered this device in 30.1.1 and it made it behave as if i added it in 30.1.1, ie not working correctly

Hmmmm. I used to stream using ZV E10 on Mac too and didn't have any issues. Try lowering Bitrate to like 4000kbps. H264 hardware encoder. And turn replay buffer off because that is intensive. That's all I can eally help with before the pros get to your question and they will be able to do more 🫶

Hello everyone 😃 I'm trying to send SRT from OBS into YoloBox Ultra as a source. I send my video source from my Mac to OBS first. Then I input my mac's IP address and port in the "live stream" of "Settings" (srt://<IP address>:<port>?mode=listener). Click the confirm button. Last, I input the SRT URL required (srt://<IP address>:<port>) in the YoloBox Ultra (My Mac and box are logged into the same network). Unfortunately, it doesn't work -- there is no video shown on the display screen. If anyone else met the common issue about sending SRT from OBS to other platform as a source? How to solve this issue? I'm not sure if there is any problem with my devices or software I don't notice. Thanks. If this question is stupid let me know in a kind way please.

let me know if you're still having issues after updating. OBS might fail to reacquire your display if it has been disconnected and reconnected, but the capture source will no longer be unusable if it fails to initialize in 30.1.1

Good morning! I've been streaming music on twitch for a few years with obs but in the last week i've had multiple crashes on every stream and I was hoping someone might be able to assist. Everything's fine for 2 hours approximately, then before everything starts freezing up, i first notice that on twitch itself (i'm using chrome but same happens on other platforms) , the video showing (coming from my stream via obs) goes black and gives me error message "video decoding error 3000". I click to reset but it usually doesn't fix it, so i open a new chrome tab and the video will work for some time then same thing happens. Then, a little while after that, i everything i'm using (virtual dj/obs/pioneer dj controller) seems to just start freezing and i have to re start /re boot. I'm using a Macbook Pro M2. Everything's up to date. I've recently went through all my obs elements and reduced excessive sources, overlays, etc to reduce the workload on the macbook. I've also watched a number of yt videos on optimal stream settings/video output etc so I should be in a good place there but something is acting up lately. Under Streaming / Advanced settings (output mode) :Video encoder set to Apple VT H264 Hardware encoder, rate control CBR, Bitrate 3000. Under the simple settings: video bitrate 6000 / audio bitrate 128 / video encoder hardwar (apple, h.264) / audio encoder aac. For the video settings tab, i have base canvas res set to 1280x 720 and output sceled res set to the same. Common FPS is 30. Any insight or help would be amazing thank you so much.

Hey. I've previously reported here that OBS is constantly crashing. I'd like to give an update to that. OBS has been crashing to such a point when Mac restarted itself, but today after such a crash Mac automatically reopened OBS after I logged in on Mac. However, OBS was working so slow. Not just OBS, but my entire Mac was lagging. To such a point when Mac crashed. As I was restarting, I could see a notice: "Your computer restarted because it encountered a problem" or something within those lines. And when I check the console, I can see a crash report with a process name "Kernel". It's literally the first time I've had such a crash on Mac. I don't think that it's the old version of OBS (29.1.3) that is a culprit. It's important for me to know what actually causes such OBS crashes and especially what caused a Kernel crash. I'm desperate for a solution. Especially since OBS is the only app that's been crashing so frequently on my Mac and the one using of which may've led to the first Kernel crash.

I only need to find out what's causing OBS to crash. It's just not normal to see it crashing so frequently and even weirder to see it causing Kernel crash. Sure, my Mac may've been crashing before, but it was usually just once after a new OS update. But with OBS it's way too frequent. Never before had I had a Kernel crash.

the thread that's crashing is in the kernel, and it's underneath a normal openGL function. there were issues with the openGL driver and this particular function in earlier beta versions of macOS, i'm not sure how this snuck into a release

i stream music videos (and regular audio) on twitch, soi've noticed while playing videos in particular..the twitch screen cuts to black and then i get these encoding error 3000 messages..which is usually how it all starts..then ultimately after anothe 10 minutes or so my whole computer and all apps freeze up

i'm not having the same issue as @leaden kettle - with obs open (but not streaming) it is absolutely fine..i've had it open all day so far (well..after the crash) and it's working fine

something definitely sounds broken, and probably a macOS issue. nothing should cause your entire machine to become unresponsive after an hour and a half of streaming. your best bet will probably be to induce the behavior, then file an apple feedback that includes a sysdiagnose, and post the FBID here https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/

Probably would have to test it for a longer session. Like an hour or 2. I remember I had once (something like 9 months ago, I think) used OBS to record screen capture for like 8 minutes or something. Apart from an obvious slowdown in how the Mac was working, there was no other issue.

just a quick thank you to you @forest axle for your suggestions earlier. still working on stuff but i reached out to Apple support so i'm in the process of re installing my mac os to see if that helps - i ran some first aid things with mac utility as well but that brought no issues up..thus the re install. if that doesn't work i'll try to figure out what you suggested above.

I'm getting a tinny, immediate echo only on my recordings, not on the live mic. Screenshots of audio sources below. Unfortunately, I introduced two variables at once from when it worked fine: A new computer, and upgrading to 30.1.4. I'm fairly certain the problem began with the upgade, as I did a livestream on the new computer before that and didn't hear this issue on that recording. ah well i think i jsut found a solution to it, normally on mac i just swip up on touchpad then click the tab i want but this makes the display small for the windows and so OBS captures the size shrink, but if i just swipe left to a new tab it stays the same size. All good now

It is, so long as you use the hardware encoder. However, this requires some advanced setup.
- OBS Settings -> Output
- Change output type from Simple to Advanced
- Change encoder to Apple VT H.264 (Hardware)
- Change bit rate to an appropriate number
For 4K@60: 60,000 kbps
For 1080p@60: 15,000 kbps
For 1080p@30: 6,000 kbps

Having an issue I have been battling that I can’t seem to solve it….
Streaming from OBS to Restream to get onto Facebook and YouTube simultaneously.
Audio and Video feed is perfect on iOS and MacOS devices and Windows PC, but on Android’s, there no audio streaming.
Setup is as follows….
X32 -> ATEM Constellation -> Web Presenter -> Thunderbolt Out to M2 Mac Mini and into OBS.
When streaming from Web Presenter directly to YouTube no issues at all, so rulling out that the system as a whole is an issue and it’s within OBS.
Weird thing is that sometimes it works on all platforms perfectly fine but the next day on Androids, the stream won’t get audio.
I’ve adjusted settings and triple checked everything but can’t seem to figure it out.
Using latest version 30.1.0
Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

oh actually i know this one. something set your canvas size to be too large for OBS, like in excess of 10,000 pixels wide or tall. to fix it, you'll need to edit one of your initialization files to fix the resolution
- in Finder, press Shift-Command-G, paste in the following and hit enter:
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/profiles - open your profile folder, then open the file "basic.ini" in a text editor such as TextEdit.
- scroll down to the area labeled
[Video], then change the top four values as following:

This is what the final product looks like. When I'm recording though I cannot actually see my webcam dispaly on my screen which can lead to me accidentally doing things that are covered in the recording. How can I get this exact dispaly showing on my screen while recording? I'm aware of windowed projector preview but this doesn't allow me to flip my camera which I need. It also has some ugly border. I use a mac. Are there any well known solutions to this? Is this even something that people do? If not, how do people make sure they don't cover up their work in their videos?

if you have a secondary monitor, you can put all your work/apps on that secondary monitor, capture it, and then put the windowed output on your primary monitor so it's easy to look at. there's a tiny bit of lag when working from the preview but it's not that bad. not sure why the windowed output wouldn't work for this use case though, since you'd be watching the exact same output that also goes out to your stream

This looks like a Windows screenshot, but what it says is pretty much the solution. You have a file path defined for recording files that doesn't exist. So check the setting and change it to somewhere that does exist.

you might be able to mitigate this latency somewhat by using the "capture card device" source instead of the "video capture device" source, but some amount of latency is inevitable and may be due to the type of capture card you're using

hey guys. when im using obs with the macOS Screen Capture application capture on my main display it freezes up the application im using (blender 3D) when i use the file browser within that application to add a texture, import a file, etc. I do not have any issues with it freezing my application when its on a display capture and i am wondering what the technical reason this is and how i can still use obs application capture and use the file browser. yes thats what i meant by load factory settings. It takes away everything: custom themes, addons, even prefrences, removes the favored node wrangler, everything. (thats why its important to save those XML files once u make a custom theme)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that didn't help. Everytime OBS opens up, it brings up the same dialog box even if the mac security settings are set correctly. Restarting the computer completely didn't seem to make any difference either.

so basically if im recording minecraft or anything once im done recording/playing i go into obs as i have minecraft in full screen and when i go into obs its just showing a single from from like halfway in the recording so if i recorded for an hour 30 minutes would be fine but the last 30 minutes it would just be recording 1 singular frame

looks like your machine is unfortunately pretty underpowered for what you're asking it to do. you may need to go down to 720p30 instead of trying to record at 1080p60 like you currently are. your scenes are fairly simple which is good, but you need to lower your settings, basically

in terms of performance, the bitrate shouldn't matter. 3000-5000 is a reasonable starting place for 720p30 in terms of quality
settings->video, adjust both your canvas resolution and output resolution to 720p (1280x720). then for FPS, change it to 30

the only way to uninstall the mac virtual camera at the moment is to drag OBS itself to the trash and follow the prompt to uninstall the extension. if you want OBS without the extension, just install OBS normally but ignore the prompt to install the extension

i was not replying to you before. you should use the normal video capture or capture card source for a capture card. nothing changed with capture cards in 30.1.2, so i'm not sure what you're experiencing

After trying to troubleshoot I removed/re-added the Capture Card source (HD60X), but now nothing displays, and the FPS option has no selections in the dropdown

well yes, you're recording in prores. if you don't have a good reason to do that, it's fine to use h264 or HEVC if the issue still appears there

ok, that gives us something to go on. you should check in your machine's System Settings->Security and Privacy, then scroll down on that window until you see a message like "software from blablabla was blocked from loading", and then click "allow"

browser extensions are different from OBS plugins. if the software was blocked from loading by the system, that would (most likely) be an OBS plugin. a browser extension is a different thing

10k might be a reasonable starting place. it just needs to be high enough that we can clearly see the issue you're describing, so i'd recommend watching your clip back and seeing if it's clear before posting

i think someone else had an issue with stuttering with the HD60X recently that was solved by changing the "input EDID mode" in the elgato capture utility software to "display". you may want to give that a shot

I stream on twitch through my xbox as there is stream feature on the xbox to live stream directly to my twtich account by just screen recording without using a capture card or pc. I downloaded obs studios on my laptop since it has the delay feature which twitch doesnt but have no idea how it works. Is it possible to add my twitch stream into obs so I can view it in obs with the extra delay?

It is currently at 5 seconds with normal latency setting, but I would want around 10-12 because I use it for competitive gaming and to review plays where a higher delay would be more beneficial

You CAN get your Twitch stream in OBS and add a delay, the easiest way is to add a Browser Source to OBS with your Twitch stream as the url

You have to click the Browser Source, use 'interact' and then click 'accept'
Also he says he wants extra delay, not sure if there is a way to do that in a browser

ok thank you ill try that out, yeah because when i tried start streaming with my twitch added in settings it just says could not access the specified channel or stream key, please double-check your stream key. If it is correct, there may be a problem connecting to the server.

So what you're doing is just streaming normally via Xbox like you were doing before, and this OBS instance is just for preview and you don't actually need to hit stream with it, that's my understanding of what you want

OBS is not a good way to delay streams for a significant amount of time. i would very much recommend instead opening your stream in a normal browser, on its vod page, and using that to review things
