please don't ping me, i'm right here
Do you have it set to Display Capture? Or Window Capture? Because if you want the full screen, use Display Capture
what is "worse"? if you move your source up, so the bottom is aligned with the bottom of your canvas, is that not exactly what you want?
This is what I already did, before I did the first Screenshot
what "first screenshot"?
Plus when I make a video, and then go to an application, it just stretches down
i don't know what "it" is, or what you mean in general. can you take a video of the behavior
@forest axle
so move the source up so the bottom is aligned with the bottom of the canvas
do you understand what that means?
Pushing the scren up
@forest axle
that looks to me like exactly what you want. the top of the window is aligned with the top of your canvas
macOS is sticking an extra black area on top of the capture, but that's a macOS issue, you can't do anything about that
there's nothing there that you want anyway
@forest axle Why can´t I change anything about that
firstly, your output resolution is a different aspect ratio than your canvas resolution, so everything is getting stretched
as to why your window capture is moving around when you switch to the application, that is a macOS issue
It´s 2880x1800 that ''was'' the original resolution
in your most recent log, these are your output settings
you're stretching 2880x1800 to 2560x1440. those are different aspect ratios
yeah 2880x1800 the original resolution to 2560x1440 so that it is 16:9
But it shouldn´t be shown
@forest axle
what shouldn't be shown
you're scaling 2880x1800 (16:10) to 2560x1440 (16:9). this stretches everything
but only be shown in the video
Any recommendations on how to actually get it centered filling up a vertical template?
No, that’d be a #stream-setup question
Of course only in the video, that’s what the output resolution is used for
I know
That is why there shouldn´t be a problem
No, because like Yam said, they’re different aspect ratios
That is the reason why there is a problem
But I hadn´t had a problem when I used it for the past 6 months
This problem appeared out of nowhere
Can you send a clip from before the issue occurred?
Couldn´t find a real video because I was using it mostly for streaming and only have a recorded stream
This clip is squished
Because, again, it's 16:9 when your desktop is 16:10
So either you output to 16:10 or you change your base resolution to be 16:9
They should both match
no because the game was made for 16:9, So it already looked like 16:9. so it was already getting stretched
No, your whole video is stretched
Look, I'm not interested in arguing over this
The whole video is squished
And you're complaining about the video being squished
And when we tell you why, you won't accept it
Again, either you change your base resolution to be 16:9 or you change your output resolution to be 16:10
My problem is this black area that always appear
Because that's the space where the menu bar should be, but you're choosing not to capture it
the weird part is that it changed it´s source resolution
And i also changed the resolution you gave me and it also did nothing
Plus everytime I go into an application it stretches down because it wants to record the bar on top but it can´t so it get´s a black bar
Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to make the streams stay at a consistent 60fps. I have a hard time telling if the broadcasts are at a proper, native, and smooth framerate after the stream, so I just wanted some advice or anything to make it look good enough.

is there a particular type of source that you're concerned about? the answer may depend on the type of source
Hey Team! Quick question- I just got OBS, lauched the program, and my iphone was available as a camera (not plugged in, just bluetooth I'm guessing?) I setup a video capture source using the iphone, and then had to take a call. When I went back to setup the iphone again, it was no longer available as a video source. How can I get that back?
Just something related to the capture card (avermedia live gamer ultra 2.1)
how do you obs to record roblox
Hey guys! New streamer here and need help diagnosing an OBS audio input issue
I tried to stream on Streamlabs and it works no problem, so I know it's not a hardware issue. I made a Reddit post looking for help - all the details are there if anyone would care to look
https://www.reddit.com/r/elgato/comments/183qshx/elgato_obs_audio_input_quality_for_game_is/
Due to a change in the way Roblox works, OBS Studio's Game Capture source is unable to capture it. As a workaround, please use Window Capture instead:
- add a new Window Capture source
- select Roblox from the window list
- change the Capture Method to "Windows 10"
On Windows 10, you will see a yellow border around the game which cannot be disabled. This is not visible in your stream and can be ignored (use the `!yellow` command for more info).
The roblox factoid is for Windows, not Mac
My mistake. Thought I was in w-s
Use macOS Screen Capture source set to Display Capture mode
how do i hide obs window from mac os capture?
its hard to test my window layout in obs, when i see obs
trying to set up vscode with twitch popuout chat (i also cant figure out how to get BRAVE twitch popout chat to always stay on top)
i dont see that
Can you show me what you see, please?
What version of macOS?
14.3 Beta (23D5043d)
Also, we're at 30.0.2 now
Boom
perfect timeing
No problem
Correct
Better to just capture the windows you want. Set macOS Screen Capture's method to Window
Well, why capture everything if you only need to capture one or two things? 🤷
When I do coding streams, I only need people to see VSCode, for example
Yes
nice
Yep
Depends. Window only captures one window. Application can capture all windows for an application on a single desktop.
I use Window
ok
Sometimes I open a VSCode window I don't want people to see
Don't open and close windows then 🤷
ah
If you're streaming, you should everything set up and ready
NightBot, Streamlabs, StreamElements… any of the usual chat overlays
vs having a seperate device
Or do you mean just on your display, not on stream
Not sure, sorry. I use my iPad as a second screen and drag my Twitch chat over to that
hmm ok
I do remember the app Chatty, which is a Twitch chat app, has an "Always on Top" mode
oh
That's the one, yeah
On macOS, we must use the JAR version. As it says, it means you need to install Java, too.
I usually install it via Homebrew but whatever way you prefer is fine
ok
Chatty is a fairly comprehensive program, it can do all those things. It's basically like the Twitch Dashboard
cant seem to keep it on top
will try restream chat
yup that works
ok great, obs crashed
glad i wasnt streaming
do we still need black hole to record audio?
OBS Studio 30+ running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Audio Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
legit
man took me 2 days to figure all this out again after a year not streaming
2 daas of not coding lol
@neon lilything is, windwo capture not gonna work for most the time, as im switching between terminal , vscode and browser to much, ill just have window capture for half screen chat and drawing
woudl be cool if the z-index in obs resspected the z-ord in my macoss
Okay OBS on mac is just pain. I've been trying to reenable the visual camera after hours now, can someone assist me? The documentation from https://obsproject.com/kb/virtual-camera-troubleshooting#macos-compatibility is not helpful at all

it looks like the camera extension is installed successfully on the OBS end. when you activate it, are you seeing an error message? or is the feed just not appearing in receiver applications? or something else?
is that "not found" or similar? i don't speak german, sorry
gotcha. that is a macOS issue. sometimes the camera will install successfully, and macOS is supposed to start the extension, but sometimes just won't for unclear reasons
logging out and back in should start it
ah yea, didnt restarted my mac for surely couple of days
but loggin out is okay u say?
logging out should be all you need, yes. if that fails, then you can restart
Okay sounds good, will try, tyvm so far 🙂
its incredible
tyvm yam!
had lots of lag experiencing when using Figma
but restart fixed it all
(maybe the restart thing should be added to the docs, i even considered streamlabs as an option, but obs is just too good)
nvm just temporarily, anyone else experiencing lots of lag within figma when using obs?
hi there, sorry for the very delayed ping. would you be available to provide some more details about your issue? particularly the capture card device, and an example of the distortion?
what sort of lag? how is the virtual camera used within figma? it's not an application i've ever used
anyone know what this emoji popping up while im recording is?
are you recording or streaming?
along the menu bar, find the green or purple camera icon/sharing indicator, then find your camera input and disable "reactions"
or i mean, it's a built-in macOS "feature" that pops stuff up on your video feeds when it detects certain gestures. if you want to disable it, see the above
where is this menu bar located? in obs? or my phone? (recording using myiphone)
!macmenubar
recording
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
oki thx
i talked about this here in the community of figma, but its probably a obs issue, since it didnt occure in Streamlabs.
https://forum.figma.com/t/lagging-while-streaming-with-obs/61006
(in short: Figma is a design Tool, example in videos are small files (not taking any memory))
the virtual camera is only being used inside discord when streaming to friends
or collegues
hmm
but the virutal cam is not the culprit
so it's an issue with general system unresponsiveness with the virtual camera active
no the cam is not responsible for this, the laggyness is constantly there when obs is open (not streaming or active virtual camera)
Which is very suspicious because I'm running multiple Adobe programs simultaneously, and they are responsive.
hard to say then. there might be something in OBS that's taking up an abnormal amount of resources for some reason, but i don't see anything obvious from your log
i can't recommend updating macOS unfortunately because of other issues with macOS screen capture in 14.2
other users have also reported sonoma performance being markedly inferior to ventura, but no specific issue has been pinpointed
if you are able to restart with a blank scene collection, and identify sources that you add that negatively impact system performance, that would be good debugging information
okay great, ill try that
Hey all. I'm recently new when it comes to obs on macOS and installing plugins. Recently installed a plugin that has a bin, data and obs-plugins folder. How would i install that on my obs mac version?
Click the macOS blue rectangle, and then either click intel or Apple sillicon
are you on an intel or apple silicon mac?
Im on an M1 if that specifys it. Idk how else i'd check
Oh ok
they were deprecated awhile ago, and there is a new way plugins are meant to be packaged
which plugin is it?
yeah i was just looking at the files
they packaged it strangely
but in any case yeah, it doesn't work on any kind of mac
unfortunately
Awh shucks.
Hello, I have a problem with my eos kiss m. I have a problem with my eos kiss m.
For some reason my eos kiss m has not been able to connect since my last obs upload.
The device part is in red.
I have already reinstalled and rebooted the eos device.
Is there any possible cause for this?

Hi there I uploaded the log file as instructed, to the chat twice but never heard anything back thereafter. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do next? 😀
I’m having issues streaming a pre recorded video. Some viewers can see it clearly. Some say it’s really glitchy. I’m wondering if this is a problem on my end. Perhaps I need to lower the specs?
hmm, neither of your logs show any lag. if some viewers have lag and others don't, that may be an issue with the streaming service
Thanks for getting back - they say they can view other creators streams very well, just not mine…
Also I forgot to mention the instructions say to end the stream after 30 seconds and then submit the log. However, I don’t know whether the lagging issue occurred within those 30 seconds… can I run it for the full hour and submit the log again?
yeah, that would be fine. any time after you know the issue has occurred, you can stop and upload the log
Can I ask a question before I try that, I settled on 720p, 30fps, sound rate of 280something, and bitrate of 3500. Do you think if I lowered these, the stream might be accessible to more people? I am wondering if the current specs are just too high for some people’s internet capacity… what would be your opinion ?
any of you experienced using groups?
that bitrate should be plenty low enough for your viewers. the main question is if your upload can handle it. from your logs, it appears it can, but a longer log might shed more light
it's pretty rare to have internet that can't handle watching a 3500 kbps stream
generally it's best to go ahead and ask, and if someone is they can see it and answer!
no one has used groups?
sorry, i meant, if you have a specific question about groups or are having an issue with them, that's what you should ask about, rather than whether someone has used groups. chances are, someone reading has
well I havent used them but I was wondering how they functioned. can you as a group mute or disable the elements as you do with single element sources
you can hide them as a group. i'm not sure if you can mute them as a group
ah yeah, hiding them mutes them, so yes
Thanks heaps - so I might have found where the issue is then will the file itself. So, it’s from IMovie. I saved it as a file as it gives the option of a resolution of 720p. However, I just checked and IMovie also has an option to share the video for ‘YouTube and Facebook’ instead… perhaps I need to choose this option. I’m not sure which one to select though as there are two options with the number 720 in them. They are: 720x405 or 1280x720. Which of those is the ‘basic level’ 720 that I would be looking for?
if you want the video to be 720p, that usually means 1280x720. but, if the video is playing back smoothly in OBS, that's unlikely to be the issue
the video can be basically any bitrate if it's just being played back on your machine; in terms of streaming, the only bitrate that matters is the output bitrate in OBS
So what should the output bitrate be on OBS then? And also the Base (canvas) Resolution? I had them both set to 1280x720 perhaps that’s too high?
that should be fine
and 3500 kbps should be fine as well
i'd recommend getting a log from a longer session like you suggested before
Sorry I meant, I had the Output Resolution and Base Resolution set to 1280x720
yeah; that's just fine
Will do thanks 🙏🏻
hello
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
thats good yam. thats how I want to use them
I actually found the log from the other day when it was messing up - in ‘show log files’. Can I upload that to you/how?
yeah sure. if you have the file, you can just drag it onto the discord window and it will be uploaded
so this is one of them - I hope this works ok
- macOS 12.7 (OK)
Intel Core i5-5250U @ 1.60GHz - Below minimum requirements / Intel HD 500 - Below minimum requirements
and this is the other, as i tried twice that day
- macOS 12.7 (OK)
- 0.5% Dropped Frames
Intel Core i5-5250U @ 1.60GHz - Below minimum requirements / Intel HD 500 - Below minimum requirements
yeah, so you can see here, you really aren't lagging at all or dropping any frames
so, if your viewers are seeing issues, that's either on their end, or on the service's end
have you checked if the streaming service has any specific stream settings requirements?
I’ll suss it out 😀
hello
Hello. Are you having an issue with OBS?
It appears that the newly implemented scene collection has proven to be effective, as there is no longer any lagging. Is it possible that deprecated settings within a scene collection could have become corrupted?
if you've added all the same sources that were in your old scene collection, and now you aren't seeing any lag, yeah, i can't explain that
Hi everyone how to add browsers by window capture in obs
I have a Mac and it’s shows null at google when I added windows capture in source
One more thing mamini m2 with 8 bgmi ram is capable to live stream 1080 p
I have no option to add ios camera in my video sources when I click the add device button. So frustrated
Can help me understand why and help to fix
hello
Hi i'm trying to fix this problem can someone help me please. Switching betwen apps give me this problem is there any way I can fix this ?
the first video is to show what I'm doing and the second is the registration of obs, as you can see when I go to chrome the registration in excel bugs
hi. what version of macOS are you using?
Monterey 12.7.1
is a macbook air 2017 with intel Core i5
hmm, unfortunately i don't think there's a good way around this issue on monterey. the only workaround is probably not to have the app in fullscreen
what version of macOS and ios are you using? if you're on ios 16 and macOS 13 or above, you can add your iphone as a capture source without using any plugins like ios camera
Can someone please help me fix my settings I’m trying to stream on kick it worked for 2 streams no issues now it won’t even start stream
i think you're exceeding their max bitrate, and possibly their max accepted resolution
check their requirements, and then change the 'bitrate' under encoder settings to whatever that value is
i also think they require 720p but i don't know
It reconnects then drops back down to zero
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

I wondered if someone could give me some help troubleshooting some issues in OBS? First is that my OBS thinks I'm always recording, streaming, or having some sort of an output because a bunch of settings (i.e. recording tab in Output) is always greyed out, even when I launch. (I will say that I have to force quit almost every time I close OBS... which could be related). This is the case even when I don't have record buffer, virtual Camera, recording, or streaming going. And after doing some research on my own, I also don't have the other virtual camera listed under "Tools".
- No Output Session
- Third-Party Plugins (7)
Apple M1 Max 10 Core 3200 MHz - OK! / Apple Apple M1 Max (not in benchmark DB)
Any thoughts from someonw who knows better than me what's going on? Nothing seems to be wrong, yet my settings are greyed out.
one of your plugins has an output session running on startup
i'd look at either source-record or replay-source, both seem likely
😅 i don't have those plugins, so i'm not sure, you'll want to look around the menu bar for something related to them
if you don't need those plugins, you can also just uninstall them
Ok, I'll try and come back and report what I find. Is there a way to uninstall or just delete a plugin to trial and error troubleshoot?
How would I do that?
And if it's not the culprit, could I just reinstall it once everything is working?
you can find the plugins folder by going to the menu bar and selecting "file->show settings folder"
then inside the plugins folder
👍
Ok, one of those two was the culprit, settings are no longer greyed out. I'll trial and error adding them back one by one.
Looks like Source Record is what's greying out all my settings. Anyone familiar with that plugin (should I ask this Q in the plugins-and-tools channel?) that could help me know what setting I'm using that is causing that to happen so I can still use the plugin?
yeah, plugins and tools is probably a good place for that sort of question

can you share a clip that contains an example of the affected audio?
There's no PS5 audio in the clip it recorded. But OBS still picks up audio, but it's stuttering and crackling.
right. can you share a clip of the audio?
can you make a recording, and share it? i need to hear it directly, not through a cell phone video
It sounds fine here. But it sounds like shit through my Macbook's speakers.
And I used the Macbook's screen recording. Not OBS'.
Something is wrong with OBS.
Intel Core i9-9880H @ 2.30GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 5500M - OK!
how did you produce this recording with clear audio? with quicktime screen recording?
I recorded it in OBS.
i don't understand. so you've sent two clips recorded with OBS, one with fine audio and one with broken audio. in what circumstances is the audio clear, and in what circumstances is it broken?
The first one was with Macbook's own Screen Recording getting the audio from the capture card.
The second one was in OBS.
ok, that's what i was asking, thank you
this is an issue we're currently trying to gather more information about. unfortunately i don't have a workaround for you at the moment
Great.
it only seems to occur for some users in specific circumstances, and the cause hasn't been narrowed down
It worked perfectly once. But then it went back to this... Quite annoying.
@pseudo warren if you would like, you could add your configuration information to the github issue here: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues/9901 along with the OBS clip you posted. it will help to have a public record of different circumstances where this is occurring, since it's still being figured out

Hi everyone! I've been sent from the #audio-support channel to here because the audio problem I am facing has probably something to do with my Mac. I'm running OBS on a Macbook Pro M1 and I use the Elgato HD60 X as my capture card. Everything works fine except the audio. I've already made a recording with audicity and there the audio works just fine but in OBS it's very distorted.
Sorry to ping, do you think @soft yacht might have the same issue you are referring to here?
no worries
could you send a log of the issue, and an example clip of the distorted audio?

ah sorry, i see you already did that in audio-support! makes sense
let me go look over there
@soft yacht it looks to me like you have the same issue some others have been reporting. it's being looked into, but the cause has not yet been determined =/
Ah too bad!
I don't know what happened, I didn't really change any settings but my audio is fixed!
that's quite odd
if you have any idea what may have changed to fix it, that would be very good information :p
The only thing I did was download Streamlabs (oops) to see if it would work there and after transferring my settings it was fixed
so you mean it works in streamlabs but still not OBS?
No because I closed streamlabs and it still works
quite interesting
I also had an automatic update form Xcode but I doubt that has something to do with it
I can make another recording and log? Maybe you see some differences
Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB)
yeah that's super odd, i certainly don't notice anything different between your logs that should matter. nevertheless, useful to know that it can work under some circumstances. certainly explains more why more users aren't reporting it. hopefully it stays stable for you
I hope it stays stable as well! Thanks a lot for looking in to it!
How do I remove plugins?
if the issue happens to reoccur for you, can you tell us if the issue is heard when monitoring the audio source in OBS (right click->advanced audio properties, "monitor and output" for the source)? cc @pseudo warren if you are able to check this out as well
thanks for your help, you don't have to try to break it if it's working
Anyone able to help with removing plugins?
whoops missed this. in OBS, do file->show settings folder, then navigate to the plugins folder. they should be stored there
and from there you can remove them by removing them from that folder
Thank you!
What file type should I output in to be able to edit in iMovie?
Leave the file type as is, and do this…
Remuxing allows you to take one video container (FLV, MKV, etc) and make an exact copy of the video and audio in another video container. This process takes seconds, and can be done with any recordings made with OBS by selecting File > Remux Recordings.
Remuxing is the safest way to get MP4 files for use in editors, or other software which doesn't support FLV or MKV files.
Hey everyone. I'm getting into game streams again, and I have purchased an Elgato Cam Link 4k to stream and record content. The video connection from my Canon XA-40 camcorder works no problem. But i'm struggling to get the audio set up properly. I have a mac laptop - with a del monitor attached - and the cam link plugged into the dell monitor. I also have a Yeti Blue Mic. What i'm trying to achieve is to have my mic audio and computer audio outputted through my headphones, but I'm either not getting that, or my mic is having a delayed echo
Just wanted to say thank you for your help - turns out the platform bans pre recorded videos (frustrating). This is what was causing the issue. Thank you again for your time 🙏🏻
Hi all, I have tried every single setting for streaming Zwift on OBS with my MacBook Pro 18 with intel I9 32gb ram and 4gb AMD Radeon dedicated card. No matter what setting I am using it still lags a lot, it got a little better when I dropped the video quality on Zwift to 720p but still pretty bad. The whole machine slows down so that even the trackpad lags.
I thought that a Mac with these specs would be able to handle Zwift and OBS at the same time.
Has anyone had the same issue and got it fixed?
Can you send a screenshot of OBS Settings -> Output, please?
Fairly sure you can't use the hardware encoders to stream on Intel Macs because they don't support CBR. What service are you streaming to?
The only way to solve the problem I had, was to delete OBS and download Streamlabs instead.
YouTube. I sort of tried them all to be honest, I'll try again with a software encoder
I tried that and it was even worse

Hello Everyone. Had a query related to recording with OBS on a latest Macbook Pro with M3 Max. I was recording 1440p60fps gameplay footage from PS5 with H265 and am seeing occasional lag and specifically one frame drop immediately followed by one frame duplication which the eye perceives as stutter. Had to import the recording to Avidemux to figure that out. Has anyone come across such micro stutters on Macbooks with Pro/Max apple silicons ? I am away from my laptop to share any further details right now but wanted to know if anyone come across any such odd things ..

I managed to do a couple of changes so that I don't get the crical errors and warnings anymore, however it's still lagging.
@native forum How is the stream looking like post the changes ? Interesting to see the rendering lag go away. Wondering if its the network congestion thats changing the bitrate dynamically .. making the stream worse.
Any chance you turned on .. Advanced => Network => Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion
I am new here and may not be that much of an expert, but just wanted to help
The stream is the same as the video on OBS, just keeps lagging, is not fluid
also have you tried disabling the preview to stream and see if that made any difference ?
Also when you made the changes, you selected 60fps to be the framerate, can you try 30 first .. and see if its helping anyway
I need help, I have an apple mac M1 and everything was working normally and since I switched to the new version of OBS 30.0... everything started to behave strangely, I recently checked for errors and everything was ok but in reality it wasn't for about 20 every few minutes it disconnects from the stream it does all kinds of crashes... when I turn off obs it throws an error when I turn it on it wants either normal or safe mode... now it started doing it I select a stream and let it broadcast and it crashes instead of broadcasting.. I restart it and it works and after about 20 minutes the stream drops, what about that.. I tried to go back to the old version and it does it too... can you help me? when I had version 28 before, the stream ran for x hours just fine, I never had any outages, neither program nor stream, I was supposed to start a podcast online in 2 hours and unfortunately I had to cancel it for these reasons, an unfortunate solution but unfortunately better than being an amateur. https://obsproject.com/logs/5yXuRls335gOOs7x

usually this is due to the capture card. if you'd like, you can test the new capture card PR, which may have improved frame pacing: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/pull/9344

Thank you very much @yam for your reply. Will go through the PR and get back if I have any further doubts, especially how to test it etc ..
Quick question. Do i need to build the code myself before i test this PR ? or is there any chance that the PR specific build has already run producing the artifacts which i can readily test it on my Macbook ?
there are artifacts there. you'll want to go to "checks" along the top bar, then under "artifacts", download the arm64 one
hmm, also, after downloading, you'll need to ad hoc sign it or you may not be able to output
do you have some facility with the command line?
ya, i am on a mac and knew the shell very well.
ok cool, you just want to ad-hoc sign it then with codesign --force --deep -s - /path/to/this/OBS.app
do i also need to log into the github to be able to see artifacts by any chance ?
I only see this on my browser as of now.
Was able to see the artifacts post logging in. 👍
@forest axle I was able to test the build and i could still see stutters every now and then. But the analysis pane tells me that the third party plugin "mac-avcapture-legacy" is installed. The question is, has the OBS used the updated mac-avcapture module/plugin ? The latest stable build output at 1440p seemed more stable compared to this build for sure. As it only happens with in 3 frames if its frame drop/duplication (like i said, one frame drop, next 2 frames are same like they are duplicates of each other). Lag used to appear once in a while but the jerky motion is very less. This test build has that plenty. 😆

you should delete and recreate your source. by default when you install that PR, it will keep the old source type. you have to make a new "video capture device" source (or, "capture card source", which is specifically designed to address this issue as well as latency). the old source in this build is found under "deprecated"
Ya, for the sake of keeping things clean, i have removed older OBS and its files under Library .. the obs-studio folder, created new using "video capture device" and tested this
i see
definitely try the capture card device source as well and see if that alleviates anything
let me check and get back
@shrewd canyon not seeing the dropped frames. Looking at your logs, they both have the same reported frame lag..
16:53:46.047: Output 'adv_ffmpeg_output': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 28 (0.4%)
16:49:50.734: Output 'adv_ffmpeg_output': Number of lagged frames due to rendering lag/stalls: 19 (0.4%)
I tried BG3, window vs display, default settings except rescale to 720p and 60FPS
the frames dropped there are not dropped in OBS, they're dropped in the output
yeah i was looking at it
you locally reproduced it? not in the shared video itself
if i proceeded frame by frame in their two recordings, the recording produced with window capture had vastly more duplicated frames
no, i'm still not on 14.2 :p
yeah I can see it in their recordings
just not in my own attempt to recreate the problem 🙂
hmm
on 14.2 or 14.3?
but yeah in any case OBS won't report anything about duplicated frames from SCK, i don't think
or rather using an older frame from SCK
14.2.1
there's the separate issue with roblox and minecraft producing large amounts of rendering lag with window capture in 14.2
perhaps this is something else minecraft-specific
I did not use minecraft, so it could be app specific yes
that one is super weird. i forget if those users filed feedbacks. but given that behavior it wouldn't really surprise me if this was some other weird minecraft thing
yeah, ill give it a shot with minecraft and see if that makes it happen
No I haven't tried it yet, but ideally I would want to have it on. I did change it to 30 FPS and was pretty much the same.
I have a windows PC setup but considering getting a Mac Mini to handle the stream what are your thoughts? 99% of the time I’m playing Call Of Duty Warzone Can a 2012+ mac mini handle it or do I need a M1 or newer? Is OBS stable on Mac OS? Any reason I should stay away from it and just stick with a traditional windows based dual PC setup?
Thanks!!!!!
if you mean outputting your PC feed to a mac mini and letting it stream, it's certainly possible. you won't want any mac mini pre-apple silicon though. it should be at least m1. those can definitely handle 1080p60 streaming and recording comfortably
@forest axle yes I like the simplicity of having a Mac mini vs a whole other PC taking up space but want to make sure OBS is stable on Mac OS and if others use the Mac mini for a streaming PC with good results
Thanks for the reply 🙂
yeah, lots of people use it and are happy with it and OBS is generally regarded as quite stable on macOS
no less stable than OBS on other platforms
can i ask for help I don't know how and where to look. I'm a normal Windows user and I don't know how to do this. When I click on the finder, I don't see anything like that there
In the Finder, click the Go menu
Select Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
@forest axle I have used the Capture Card Device as you have suggested and by far this has been the impressive one .. I have recorded the game at 1440p60fps for ~35 mins and only 3 or 4 times the lag appeared in the recording. When the lag appears, usually it stays for sometime and auto corrects itself .. the first time it occurred is at 6 min marker and stayed around 2 mins and then the video played smooth for some time etc .. when it auto corrects, the game looks pretty perfect .. at least to my eyes. The game i am playing is God of War: Ragnarok, especially the scenes with heavy combat as well as cut scenes and walking around.
Usually if i slow pan 360 degrees in an open area with lighting the lag will be clear, i have not checked it out yet, its almost midnight here, so i will be further testing this build when i have time and report back. 😉 Thank you for taking time to respond to the query. Highly appreciate it. 🙂

that's weird, there should be a crash there. are you able to trigger the crash, and then when you see this screen, can you click the report (ohlásit) button and then paste all the text from the report in here?
@fading hare this will probably be it
that is it, thanks
@forest axle That's not a problem, just turn off the obs and turn it off and I have it right away
it is from this
@forest axle As a browser, what am I missing? like chrome? or in obs? in the dock or in the source?
are you streaming on youtube? do you have the youtube live control panel dock?
Yes, I have it, it's part of obs, it's not my accessory. but now i deleted the plugins and this started happening. it was also one add-on that worked with the browser
that's not too important
the issue is the youtube dock

sure thing. as long as that youtube live control dock isn't there, you shouldnt see any issues
Idk what to tell u bro. Idc what the logs say its dropping many frames with window capture
I can see it
Hello, I am helping a friend setup streaming stufff. She is on an imac desktop using a capture card with PS5. We got everything working great except she can not hear her desktop audio through her headset (alerts from twitch such as bits or donations, music, ect) The stream can hear it all though..which is good. We have set monitoring device to headset. We have also went into advanced properties and set that to monitor and output. It still won't work. Note: she does use a splitter for audio since she's doing ps5 and capture card. Can anyone help us so she can hear her alerts? I am a windows pc user so I’ve been struggling with her iMac but I’ve finally got everything but this working. I am logged into her pc remotely doing this for her. Thx.
they show 0.4% for both capture types
Oh, I can see it in the video Yam mentioned, no question
Yeah. I think it’s just something with Apple or I’m being dumb somehow
the issue is the logs don't record this type of lag
do you see the issue in a different game?
like just record your browser playing a video or something? not even a game
I’ll check I don’t have time rn
sure no rush
"rendering lag" in OBS means that OBS couldn't render a frame in time because it had to do too much to composite, do effects, etc. it's totally independent from whether the frame from SCK is identical to the one it used last frame
you could make the number of duplicate frames from SCK appear in the log, but there's also perfectly good reasons for duplicate frames like static scenes, etc, so it's hard to imagine it being of much value
Does anyone know how to get the h6 recorder (or any version of it) to show up as an audio input device to be used with obs on Mac?
My setup is: Shotgun Mic > H6 recorder > USB Hub > Macbook
I connect the H6 recorder to my USB hub using a dcv to usb adapter. Then the hub connects to my Macbook.
Hi guys, I am banging my head against a wall with OB today. I have used it for years and not had any isues but today the OBS camera will not show in Zoom or Google meet. Can anyone help please?
I have just updated Zoom and OBS and no change
Permissions are all set ok I think
!win10cam
well, first thing first, make sure they are
Windows has privacy settings for microphones and video capture devices (primarily webcams and capture cards), which may block them from being used in OBS. If you are having issues capturing them, follow these steps to check that OBS is allowed to access them.
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Privacy -> Camera for capture cards and webcams, and turn "Allow apps to access your camera" on.
- Go to Privacy -> Microphones, and turn "Allow apps to access your microphone" on.
this is for a mac
my apologies am a dumbass, thought I was in windows support
lol
!macpermissions
I think this below should also allow you to check for perms for google meet or zoom
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
(as in, doing the same in google meet/zoom instead of obs)
thanks mate but that didnt owrk either
ok, does the virtual cam appear in this site : https://webcamtests.com/
hmmm it shows may cm but not sure if it is the obs one
well, test it and check whether it displays the obs preview
ok so it just shows my logitec cam and not the obs

that shouldn't affect the virtual cam, that's just that their phone (which they use as a camera in obs) wasn't connected
Got it @plucky zenith
sorry just read this
yeah it may have picked up an iPad which I use to show through OBS
They both show fine in OBS though so its all to do with the virtual cam not being shared externaly from OBS
When I go to start OBS, I get the message "OBS did not shut down properly during your last session. Would you like to start in Safe Mode (third-party plugins, scripting, and WebSockets disabled)?" Then it gives me two options: "Run in Safe Mode" or "Run normally". Earlier, I could get it to start with either option. Now, I cannot get it to start at all. I have gone onto the forum page's for both Windows and Mac (I have a macbook pro). Windows has a solution, which is to write a script (which I have no experience with). Macbook has no solution (the person who asked the question never uploaded a log, so no solution was given). I believe a secondary problem has come from this too: When I could get it started, it would not record, due to "low disc space." I had the record path set to a 1TB hardrive that had 994GB available, so I don't think I actually have low disc space.
Is there anything I could do for my Microphone
Because my Microphone is hearing almost everything it can even hear me typing on my keyboard
the old OBS virtual camera does not work with macOS 14. you'll need to use OBS 30+ if you want to use the virtual camera with macOS 14
to fix the first issue, you need to temporarily revoke OBS's screen capture permissions, remove your macOS screen capture sources, then re-grant the permission. here are some steps:
- open system settings, go to privacy and security, then screen recording. either toggle OBS off, or remove it from the list
- restart OBS
- go through your scenes and remove macOS screen capture scenes
- in system settings, give OBS the permission again
- restart OBS, and add macOS screen capture scenes that you want once more
as to the second issue, is the drive a network drive? there is a known issue with network drives in OBS 30.0.2, and you will need to downgrade to 30.0.0 for the moment if so
@forest axleSo I'm back again. I wanted to start testing as I wrote yesterday and I finished before I started. I had a new stream created and I set a name etc.. private and I put the button to schedule and select the broadcast in the morning it crashes and pops up the table with sending apple and then when I start again it offers me to start normal or in safe mode and the whole thing repeats itself... I send the data as soon as it was ready to be sent
Worked like a charm! OBS is functioning normally again, except the hardrive issue. My hardrive is not a network drive, so I'm not sure about where to go from there
@forest axle So I won't try anything... if you want some more report data... I'll provide it
let's see a log
!maclog
do you have a specific way to reproduce this consistently? i.e. is it when you hit a particular button or something?
@forest axle At the moment I just turned on the obs, I wanted to start a test stream on Youtube, so I just put the button to manage the broadcast. it switches me to the table where I set the broadcast ..name, description, public non-public broadcast and then after setting this I just put the button to schedule and select the broadcast so that I can stream and nothing else when I press the button it falls
can you take a screenshot of the manage broadcast window?
@forest axle Here it is
- macOS 13.0 (OK)
- No Output Session
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i5-8257U @ 1.40GHz - OK! / Intel Iris Xe - Possible bottleneck
for the moment, you will need to just not configure your broadcast from within OBS. you'll need to use the youtube studio page in your browser
how is your drive connected? and do you know how it's formatted (APFS, etc)?
Plugged in with USBC... ExFAT
have you written to this drive with OBS before?
No, never. To date, I have used it exclusively to record videos from ATEM Blackmagic.
hmm. macOS should be able to write to exfat without issue, so OBS not being able to is odd
are you able to write to it normally in other applications?
After I fixed the first problem (with screen recording), yes. So, it's not a BIG deal anymore... but I would still like to use the hard drive.
you may just need to format it. iirc macOS might be particular about block size with exfat?
stepping out but i'll be back in a bit
@forest axle Ok, I will do it and turn on the test stream and hope that it doesn't crash from this version I'm really bad.. it crashes like crazy.. it's calmed down on windows but I had similar problems there but it's a really hard version for me . I hope that a patch will come soon.. because it doesn't work.. and when I go back to the old version, they do it too. How did everything not work.... I would like to use windows for the podcast, but I have it in another room and I use a mac even on the go with podcasts... That's why I need to have it stable on the mac... it was mainly the problem with windows. live when he went away, it goes to mac so.live wasn't even there....
Is obs a video editing app
Editor functionality is not something that is currently in scope for OBS Studio development at this time. Our main development focus for OBS Studio right now is streaming and recording features.
We're happy to leave editing for other, more specialized software to handle. For a list of recommended post-production software, including video editors, see our list of Post Production Tools
can you tell me when specifically OBS crashes when you are using the youtube manage broadcast window?
also, can you see if the issue occurs if you restart OBS via Help->Restart in Safe Mode?
@forest axle Added the findings on the MR https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/pull/9344
Is there any formal process to be able to test somethings for you guys ?
nope, no formal process, contributing feedback on PRs is just fine, thank you! good to have testing and public feedback from users so things are merged with more context
a side note, you tagged a random yam on github who is not me :p my github username is entirely different
but no need to tag me either :p
Got it. Thanks @forest axle
Also how can i know the timeline for actually merging these changes to master so that they go into which upcoming stable build ?
Not necessarily the contents of this PR, i am asking about any PR in general
it depends™️
can be hours, can be years
Really no way to say in general
generally PRs that are set for a release will have a github 'milestone' attached to them. that one doesn't yet. i'm hopeful it makes it into the next release but that's just me :p
the milestone says pretty little tbh
yeah i guess it's pretty inconsistent
but user feedback does play a role too in any case
understood.
I totally understand.
Hello, I would like to use the option 'application audio capture (beta)' but it doesn't appear on my OBS app - is there a way I could get that option?
I am trying to configure a good balance between my speaking voice and spotify music.
OBS Studio 30+ running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Audio Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.

In case a plugin is causing issues, try opening OBS Studio in Safe Mode. This mode prevents plugins and the built-in WebSockets server from loading which can help you identify whether a plugin is causing issues for your setup.
- Click on the Help menu → Restart in Safe Mode
- When you are finished with safe mode, click on the Help menu → Restart in Normal Mode

Before the update i had 2 screens that where aligned and good to see, now its fucked up and look like this haha, can anyone help me please 🙂
You need to resize your source, then click one of the transition buttons in the middle of the screen
I changed it and now it looks like this, i changed to 1920x1080 but the right screen output still isnt as it used to be, it used to bethe same size as the left one 🙂
i need the output to be as big as the left one so i dont need to cut it when editing 🙂 if thats possible ofc 😮
Could you exit Studio Mode and see what it looks like, please?
Click on the Studioläge button
Okay, now resize it there

Hey guys, does anyone know where the problem is, no matter what I do, support obs, this happened because I deleted a filter. https://clips.twitch.tv/HumbleTangiblePelicanCharlieBitMe-_Si_f5U22C6sPrJT
I have a question, I have two monitors on my Mac, respectively I have a Macbook that has a display and then a TV connected via HDMI. I would like to project an image from the obs on the TV. I am talking about a mixed image and scenes from the obs... I do it by pressing 2 mouse buttons on the obs screen, then I click on the full-screen projector and select the second monitor. which works fine but it happens to me that it randomly turns off.. and I have to turn it back on.. sometimes after a minute sometimes after an hour. it does this to me across all versions.. does anyone have experience with it, how to fix it so that it runs all the time? from when i turn it on until i turn it off?or are you using something else for it? it turns off randomly whether i'm doing something on the mac or i just turn it on and walk away...
Hard to tell what’s going on, your log is full of StreamElements spam. Are you using StreamElements OBS or just using their browser source overlays?
And lots of issues with third party plugins, particularly StreamFX, not loading properly
Have you tried using a windowed projector and making it full screen on the TV?
I think I tried it but now I don't know the result now I'm testing it so I'll do a test.
timer chat and overlay, but everything has been going well for the last 6-12 months. it's been like this for 3 days
then it didn't turn off, but it always seems to turn off and it flashes... but it catches again. so it works for now...
are you using the youtube live control panel dock?
this looks like you have a significant memory leak, probably from a plugin
@iron mica can you do the following?
- restart OBS
- start a stream or recording *for long enough that you reproduce the issue*
- in OBS, from the menu bar, select Help->Show Log Files
- stop your stream or recording and quit OBS
- after OBS is closed, upload the most recent file in the log folder

what happens when you try to start it? is it unresponsive with a beachball? or does it crash with the above?

Hi all,
I have a dual computer setup, M1 mac mini 16gb (stream machine) and a PC. I use a HD60X capture card. OBS barely uses 10% of CPU usage when streaming or recording and the stats show around 0.1% Frames Missed/Skipped Frames. My average time to render frame however is around 10ms to 12ms. Yet my streams seem choppy and not a smooth 60fps. Any idea what could be going on? I am on the latest version OBS and my mac is plugged into a 4k monitor, not sure if that makes a difference . I’ve tried digging around on forums etc but couldn’t find a fix. Any input is appreciated.
These are my current settings
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
the issue is still here, i really dont want to have to move platforms tbh
your issue is that the + button to add sources has literally just disappeared?
can you take a screenshot?
yes, and ofc
it's the whole toolbar at the bottom of the sources and scenes docks
does view->reset UI have any effect?
i swear if i just havent noticed it this whole time 😭
ill check
OMG, ITS FIXED
your actually a lifesaver
thank you so so much
you can go back to the latest version as well
sure thing
must've been something weird with that theme you were using
yeah probably
ty yam, should probs have thought of that 🤦
qt fun
Has anyone else experienced a bouncing black line at the top of their videos when recorded through OBS I used to scale the video to 101% in post and now that is no longer covering the bouncing line

you aren't losing a meaningful amount of frames to lag. can you send an example clip of the choppiness you're seeing?
Click on the Solutions button for info about it
Will do, thanks.
This was streamed. The game's running at 90fps on the pc. @forest axle
Not sure if it's really that visible in this short clip. But when I go up the stairs it doesn't seem like 60fps to me. I could try to find a better one if needed.
That looks smooth to me
Ok, well maybe it's just me then. I'll try looking for a more noticeable clip. Thanks for your time either way!
The snippet has frame duplication
The duplication is probably due to frame drop while the last frame present in the video queue/buffer is repeated ?
I have tried most recent stable version along with a bunch of other older versions as well but none has recorded from HD60X (Macbook with M3 Max combo) clean.
@forest axle is there any chance that OBS works seamlessly for some macbooks with apple silicon but not for some other ?
Many youtube videos with Elgato HD60X + OBS combination along with Macbook Pro with M1/M2 vouched that things are working seamlessly .. which made me wonder if anything is amiss with M3 lineup recently released
definitely noticeable here, the effective framerate is closer to 30. can you show your capture card's source properties in OBS?
and are you sure your PC is actually outputting to the HD60x at 60fps?
as a side note, you generally won't want to play at 90fps and stream at 60fps, because that leads to pretty bad issues with frame pacing, where your card will effectively miss every 3rd frame
but that's unrelated to your issue here, where you're seeing basically every other frame duplicated
if there is, we haven't seen any real evidence along those lines yet
Where should I look to verify that?
this looks fine
i'm inexperienced with capture devices on windows, so i'm not sure, sorry =/
Good to know! Thanks for that info.
Its too late tonight for me to test and provide evidence. i will circle back to give you the recordings with latest stable version so that you can have a record of it
What fps lock would you recommend?
That's ok! I'll have a look around.
ideally, your framerates should be same, so game capped to 60, stream at 60. short of that, they could be multiples of one another, so game at 120, stream at 60
honestly, most people can just uncap their fps and achieve a relatively smooth stream regardless. but capped at 90fps is basically the least ideal, since if it's a stable 90fps, it basically guarantees the card will miss every 3rd frame and the stream will look weird
I see 👍 . I'm pretty new to all that, this is very helpful.
Anything I should be looking into in order to correct the frame duplication issue?
Also are there any tools you are using to learn the effective frame rate here ?
So is it normal for when OBS restarts on mac that game audio automatically goes awful?
No.
well it is for me and i cant fix it
How are you capturing audio in OBS? Something like Blackhole?
So to be clear, where is the audio being weird? On your TV?
if you can tell your windows PC is outputting at 60 fps, and your OBS source is set to input from the card at 60fps, and you're still seeing captures that look like the above, i would not be sure what the issue is. most likely still something on the windows end
weird on my mac, when monitoring and output, and when I record or stream. tv audio is great
i don't have a tool for this, my understanding is it's somewhat nontrivial for programs to measure. i just go frame by frame in a media player that does so well
can you provide a sample of the messed up audio?
how so? like a video record?
sure, a short recording would be fine
while you're at it, a full clean log would be good

thanks. this is an issue that's being actively looked into. we haven't narrowed down a cause yet unfortunately. you said it happens when you restart OBS? does that mean it doesn't happen the first time you launch OBS? do you know under what conditions it occurs for you, and when it doesn't?
and also, you said that it occurs when monitoring the source as well as in the output?
so my very first time i added everything in it sounded great, i restarted today to test everything and it sounded like this
yes I have it set to monitor and output through my headphones connected to my mac so i can hear if its still a problem, but its in recordings and on stream as well
ok, so it occurs in monitoring
yes
i also don't suspect that this is the issue, but could you confirm something? can you go to the menu bar to the green or purple capture indicator, find your HD60X audio input, and toggle on and off "voice isolation" to see if that has any effect on the issue?
nope that made it worse and more staticy
ok
the team has been trying to reproduce this to figure out what's going on, but i don't think they've been able to quite yet. it seems to only occur for some users =/
dang i just got all this cool stuff to start streaming too wahhh, I guess I will wait for an update
yeah, stay tuned. you should still be able to record audio with other programs, and apparently streamlabs does not suffer from this issue, if you're willing to use that to stream it's definitely an option
Just wanted to give an update. recording and playing at 60fps looks perfect.
cool, was it your windows settings?
Nope, just locking the game at 60fps seemed to have made it smooth.
Just downloaded 30.0.2 on my M1 Mac studio (Ventura 13.3) and when I launch OBS, it keeps asking for permission to screen record - which is enabled. I'm able to create MacOs screen capture source, but its not pulling anything and I can't access my properties (grayed out.) Has anyone else had this issue?
If OBS Studio reports that it does not have system permissions but they do show up in System Preferences/Settings, follow these steps to fully reset permissions for OBS Studio.
- Quit OBS Studio and System Preferences/Settings
- Open the Terminal app (located in
/Applications/Utilities) - Copy-paste this command then press Return:
sudo tccutil reset All com.obsproject.obs-studio - Type in your user password then press Return. Nothing will appear on screen while you do this.
- Open OBS Studio again, then set your permissions straight away in OBS the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
Also, make sure you have only one copy of OBS Studio installed in /Applications. Multiple copies of the application causes issues with properly setting permissions.
Try this @cedar hazel, it'll refresh the permission database for OBS
what do you mean by browser sources?

its working
Excellent
Hi there guys, I have a simple question about “unloading sources”. My OBS (30) is mostly working and rarely crashes… except when I close it. Then it ALWAYS crashes. It also usually crashes when changing Scene Collections and I believe I could pinpoint the problem to sources not being unloaded. Funny enough there is no pattern to which sources don’t unload correctly, it is images, cameras, even plain text. Any idea or tips about handling that?
For context I use the popular move and vertical plugins.
Nice to know. I am employing same method as of now but thought of asking if i am missing out on any tools available.
Are you switching while recording/streaming?
Updated to the latest and now OBS just will not launch, in safe mode or normally. It just loads forever. Never opens.
I use Intel build on M1 because I need it for VST support.
does the silicon build load correctly?
Oh this is weird, it launched successfully a moment ago. I tried exiting and opening again and it's back to failing to load.

Does it also happen when streaming or just recording?
I wonder if it’s specifically related to the hd60x and silicon Macs.
It happens during streaming as well. Tested YouTube streaming at 1440p 60fps and observed similar frame duplication which is perceived as lag
I preferred local recording to rule out any internet connectivity issues which might make stream laggy as I am using WiFi to push the stream from my MacBook Pro
I am surprised to see no one talked about this (OBS issues on Silicon Macs) on any of the YouTube videos by anyone
Even updated the firmware of HD60X to the latest which I think dates back to May or June 2023
@weary knoll Has your problem got solved post adjusting frame rates on both sides keeping things in sync ?
Or were you still seeing some lag or duplicate frames still happening despite the change ?
Hi everyone, I would really appreciate some help. I don’t think this has been mentioned. So for some details I am looking to record from my Xbox series x to my iMac (monterrey) via an Elgato hd60x on to obs studio. I have finally got everything work however when I watch the recordings back they appear to have a really low frame rate. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to fix this. Both are on 60fps but the recording appears as if it’s like 10fps. Please and thank you
Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. I’m really in need of support, as I just can’t seem to resolve the issue I’m having where all my footage is extremely choppy. I’ve spent hours and experimented with different settings within OBS, but nothing seems to fix this issue. Please find my iMac specs below:
Processor: 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7
Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB
Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Storage: 512GB Interal & 8TB External
Please let me know what the best solution would be to resolve this laggy footage. Thank you!

I see. Me too, I’ve done a lot of digging around before reaching out. Couldn’t find any info about anything. I also updated my hd60x but it didn’t improve the issue.
Last reply from you seemed like the problem got resolved post adjusting both ways to 60fps .. rather than 90 and 60.
The stream was indeed a lot smoother at 60fps. I could still notice small hiccups here and there but nothing as drastic as playing at 90fps. My initial thought was that frame pacing must have been the issue. I then tried 120fps (gsync on + vsync NVCP on) on a different game, and it was a hot mess unfortunately. Maybe even worse than playing at 144fps. I also tried gsync off, uncapped fps, well above 240, and it seemed the smoothest it’d been so far. I really couldn’t say for sure what the issue is.
I have tested 720p 60fps using quicktime recording, i did not see the stutter. Unfortunately the 1080p recording in that one gets restricted to 30 fps so have not tested it.
The issue is visible if you try to stand in a place and pan the camera 360 degrees slowly .. the twitches does not get noticed during fast paced games but this panning one exposes the imperfections clearly ..
I have tried some older major versions of OBS until 28 or something when it initially started supporting M1/M2 officially .. but i see similar results .. then i ended up joing the discord here .. LOL
@forest axle suspected frame pacing to be the cause initially when i came in first to ask questions about this.
I even did a renice of -15 for the obs process thinking perhaps it might be some priority issue but its not.
you have used the capture card device PR and performance is better there though, correct?
yes @forest axle i have and it almost nullified the glitches (i mean just 1 or 2 frame duplications) caused. But i was still seeing ocassional 1-2 min lag and recovery .. about 2-3 times in 15 mins of recording, but when the lag isn't there its perfect
That’s a great idea. I’ll also try recording using quicktime and see if there’s any difference on my end.
But i could not understand why the capture card PR ocassionally started going off rails and coming back on in a min or two

I have enabled VSync and set a reasonable frame rate limit however, nothing has changed. I have also turned down the video quality options in the game + I don’t have any other programs open on my iMac, so I have no clue what to do at this point
i'd recommend using macos screen capture over window capture, it has much better performance and may alleviate some of that rendering lag
Gonna give it a go now and let you know how it goes! Thanks!

hey quick question for a friend: does Razer Ripsaw capture card work for Mac M2? she tried plugging it, obs detects it but nothing happens
a few notes. you're trying to record significantly above 4k, not 4k. you're also recording using custom ffmpeg output so i can't tell what encoder you're using. i'd recommend using standard output instead of custom ffmpeg. you probably can't use the hardware encoder, but your system may be able to handle 4k60 with x264, though it seems pretty marginal
you should stream with the hardware encoder in CBR mode, not x264. then for your recording settings, for the encoder, you should select "same as stream"
the base m1 can't really do two separate encoding sessions at once
How can I remove the OBS Virtual Camera Video system device? I’ve deleted the app, and none of the online guides are helpful.
when you removed OBS, were you prompted for your password to remove the system extension?
Yes. I actually found the system extension that is still lingering. However I do not have permission to remove it?
Yes.
let's see, have you used the command line before?
Yes.
cool, can you tell us the output of systemextensionsctl list ?
is there still a copy of OBS.app in your applications folder?
the only way to remove the system extension is to drag the app to the trash via the finder
so if you rm -rf'd it before, you'll need to redownload it to applications and then re-remove it via finder
There is not a copy of the app in applications. I have redownloaded and deleted it from finder multiple times.
hmm, that's pretty weird. can you take a screenshot, or maybe a recording, of any prompts you see when you put OBS in the trash via the finder? one other thing is to empty the trash before putting OBS in it, as if another copy of OBS is in the trash, removing the system extension can fail, because macOS things
So it went right to the trash no issues
can you run the systemextensionsctl command once more and see if its output has changed?
ok, that's normal. reboot and run that command afterward, if you could
Empty the trash first?
you can install OBS without installing the extension too; just don't follow the prompts to allow it after you install OBS, and it won't bug you again
I run OBS to livestream to Youtube, Its all set up works fine. My problem is that when I hit start streaming I'm never confident that actually started streaming until I check youtube and see the stream is going. But that's a long delay. How can I tell that streaming is working and youtube is good from within OBS?
ultimately the only test of whether your stream is in good shape is actually viewing it on youtube. in OBS, you can bring up the stats dock to see if you're dropping frames, but you can't actually view the stream itself from within OBS
thanks for the response, not the answer I was hoping for, but thanks for the response
what is the time delay between OBS and Youtube? approximately?
it's different for every user and depends on a few factors. usually like 10-15 seconds in my limited experience
you can configure youtube with different latency settings at the cost of quality as well
ok, very good, thanks for the help
Why is my recording quality low, how can i increase it?

Hi latest update keep saying there is insufficient space for recording. Really annoying have to keep downloading the 30.0.0 because it keeps updating it for some reason even though turned updates off
have you tried on 30.0.2?
oh mb, I thought the fix had been added to 30.0.2, but apparently no
it should be there in the next version
you're recording to a network drive, right?
is the drive on your computer or over the internet?
Hey folks, I ended up returning the M2 Ultra but wanted to show my findings in case it's any use.
your results don't totally make sense to me, as i've been able to do two 4k60 h264 realtime encodes simultaneously on my m1 max. if you have documentation on your complete testing methods including exact encoder settings i would be interested in taking a look
that goes some of the way toward explaining it, but is still puzzling. CBR is much less efficient than the other two modes, you can get much better raw performance with ABR and CRF
I'll have to play with those some more, I only did slightly. Reason is I play racing games which tend to outpace variable bitrates
Which is also why I bother with 1440p on YouTube, their 1080p bitrate is poopy
i don't really know what you mean by "outpacing" variable bitrates, as the entire point of VBR is that it will increase bitrate in response to more changes in the input. a VBR recording should have strictly superior fidelity to CBR at the same bitrate. beyond that, CRF generally delivers the best results with videotoolbox over either, if your goal is quality and performance
Just been a while sine I tried it, since previously it would lower quite aggressively so you'd notice blocks as the game sped up after say a race end screen
I'll give those a test on the M2!
did you ever get meaningful feedback from apple about the ultra choking at those lower settings?
Nope they didn't really manage to provide much
Just basic tech support stuff like asking if I'm scaling the res of my monitor etc
heh, that's annoying
Now I wish I tried CFR on the Ultra 😤
though I guess the M3 Max seems to mirror the results, so I can try that
does anybody know if it's possible to keep the Chat dock "always on top" without having the main studio on top? I'm trying to stream from an emulator and I only have one monitor, so ideally the emulator would take up most of the screen but keep the chat on the side
It's not possible on macOS, no
alright thank you

Describe what you mean by “couldn’t share my screen”
Like when your on discord it shows if you want to share your screen.
I can't do that on OBS Studios.
So what have you tried so far?
I saw a youtube video on how to do it and it doesn’t work.
Let me see if I can find the youtube video.
No
YouTube videos are always full of such cack advice
All you need to do is add a macOS Screen Capture source
If you can’t select your display from it, then you need to click the OBS menu -> Review app permissions -> grant the Screen Capture permission

Right, so it looks like you haven’t chosen a display to capture
When you double click on the macOS Screen Capture, do any show in the list?
If none show up, do this
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features.
