Theoretically ghostscript supports mac
It's just a matter of configuring the build process
If you just want to switch scenes, no changing sources or whatever, you can use hotkeys in obs so you can switch scenes even while the presentation is selected
Alternatively, you could make it so the presentation is open in the same monitor as obs
And simply use fullscreen projector in obs to output to the second monitor
i think i understand you here. this could be better. anyway i need to pay attention to the host if he is trying to move i got to be careful to not be step on obs
Step on obs? If both obs and the pdf is in the same monitor (yours), then what's the problem?
Also, you could try opening the pdf in your browser rather than adobe
the arrows or keys to skip pages, are not switched if i'm on obs. i have to be on the pdf reader window
Surely cmd+tab then arrow key wont be too much delay?
not really. but i need to remember to selec the window back so host can change.. i'm just trying minimize human work and stress when presentating to a lot of people
i may switch to window.. or install a window instance on this mac
Alternatively, you could convert the pdf to only pictures, assuming a page fits a screen. So you can use obs' image slideshow
damn. that solves everything lol
omg
Glad we thought of an alternative that works for you. Next you'll probably want a utility to automatically convert pdfs for you
i just ask the designer to export on .png file and does it 🙂 thank you so much
Oh great
clarify Sign language not have transtion to english
Crash again when i switch scense
can you provide any more details? switching to any scene? or a particular scene? always or not always?
depend on when i need i use for background Interpreter can see backgroud easy that way have only two or 4 time crash
I am going to be at a highschool sporting event doing live commentary, i would like to include the live feed of the game along side the commentary, is there a way to add a delay to my audio and face camera while keeping the window capture of the live game up to date?
You can add Delay filters to the relevant sources
This isn't really a Mac-specific question, so you might also ask in #stream-setup for some other peoples' ideas :)
You can fine-tune your video and audio sources using filters. To access Filters, you can either:
- click on the Filters button on the source toolbar
OR - right click on your source (or click the Gear icon next to an audio source) and select Filters
See the Filters Guide for more information on what filters are available and how they work.
Take a look at the Render Delay filter for info on how to use that
That's for the webcam source
For audio delay, you would need to use the Advanced Audio Properties window (click the gear at the bottom of the audio mixer dock) and set a delay there to match the Render Delay filter you set on the webcam
Sync offset?
I'm having issues with the obs when I'm trying to use my phone when I try to use macOS screen capture, it will be a blink black screem and I tried to use everything to my best ability in still not working. What do you think I suggest? I have a Mac Intel btw
Yeah.
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
I haven’t been able to control my audio mic paired with my camera unless I add the microphone manually as an individual device in settings, I sent a few feedback reports in apple feedback a couple times with screenshots but my issue still hasn’t been solved.
its still not working
What are you trying to capture?
Yes
That is not an answer to my question.
Yes I’m trying to capture
Capture what
I’m trying to capture my game from my phone
iPhone or Android?
iPhone
Well, macOS Screen Capture won't help capture that
You need to connect your iPhone to your Mac using a USB cable, then use a Video Capture Source
I tried it nun is coming up
Take a screenshot of the video capture window, please
Hmm
What version of macOS is the Mac running, and what version of iOS is on the iPhone?
mac (Version 14.0 ) ios17
Good Afternoon! Having an issue with some of my users trying to use OBS virtual camera in MS Teams, for most MS Teams is not picking up the OBS camera as an input option but it is for one person. We've got all the permissions allowed, anything of the top of you guys head I can try ?
Guys i have updated macos to Sonoma and now Chrome, zoom and other apps fail to recognize Obs virtual camera
Is there any work around or solution?
I think we've got the same problem mate! Seems to have been 14.1 that's knackered it
Will let you know if I get anywhere
Thank you so much 🙂
Hello Everyone! We’re doing test to livestream a dj set with two scenes, only problem is audio cross fades when transitioning between them, which kills the mood, anybody know how to stop audio cross fade between scene transitions?
Using Sony mirror less for scene one, and iPhone for scene 2. Same audio source for both (from audio interface)
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/virtual-camera-problems-macos-14-1-obs-29-1-3.170516/ there's a potential solution at the bottom of this thread 🙂
I need help with my OBS, when I ever open it it doesn’t work, when I check the Status app it says it’s running, however it is not.
Hello I need urgent help please! I downloaded OBS Studio and want to use it as videoregie. I have a projector connected to my PC and I want to switch between 2 or more videos via the button switch the source and also see beforehand in the preview what I switch to. Can someone help me?
My first problem is how can I select the source and preview it without it starting immediately?
Secondly, how can I switch them in the preview?
Would really appreciate early help
Has anyone tried OBS 30 RC1 on Sonoma 14.1? Does it solve the Virtual Camera issue? Any reason to avoid it?
Hello 🤝 Is this Bug known that the Context Menu in OBS for Mac has some Missing Entries like "Copy, Paste ect."?
Its on my Mac Mini M1 and on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro
My OBS Versions are 29.1.3 for Apple Silicon
which issue exactly? Yes, it does make the virtual camera work. However, RC1 has an issue where CPU usuage can be quite high which will be fixed for RC2
An overview of OBS Studio's Studio Mode can be found here: https://obsproject.com/wiki/OBS-Studio-Overview#studio-mode
The Virtual Camera feature disappears upom install of macOS 14.1 in OBS 29.1.3. There is supposedly a fix for it, but it involves the Terminal and changing deep system settings that I'm not comfortable with.
I did try installing RC1, and found what you described, hi CPU and running fans. Looking forward to RC2. I hope it happens soon!
the OBS 29.1.3 virtual camera is not compatible with macOS 14, period
It was working for me in 14.0. I use it daily. Only stopped working upon install of 14.1.
that may have been a macOS bug that it worked. in any case, it is certainly not supported. as soon as OBS 30 is out the door all these problems will be solved, however
Hi ! What’s the link to follow to find the scenes folder on macOS ? I think a have a scene that made OBS crashes and so I want to delete it.
the easiest way to get at it would be to do file->show settings folder in OBS, then navigate to the basic folder, then the scenes folder
Thanks !
May you send a direct link that I can put in the finder directly ? So sorry…
oh right, you can't open OBS. ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes
note that those are json files for the entire scene collection. i do not know how easy or hard it is to remove just a specific scene from them
Thanks !
Yes I know, in fact it seems that every time i try to set a specific scene collection, OBS crashes. This problem is not linked with the actual beta bc I had the same with the previous version…
do you know what it is about the scene collection specifically that causes the crash?
I have absolutely no idea 🤷♂️
if you're able to, you could drop the scene collection file in here, might be able to see if there's something obvious
I’m not really sure it’s about the file itself bc on a m1 iMac I don’t have this issue.
And I face this issue on a m1 air.
A crash log is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash log.
- In Finder, click the Go menu
- Select Go To Folder, and type in
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ - Upload the file prefixed
OBS_with the most recent date (format is year-month-day)
it could also be a plugin issue which you could check by removing the ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins folder
Hi there, this was not known. However, I was able to reproduce the issue. Thank you for the report!
As a workaround, set your OBS to English
I know, it's a "little" thing, but when you have quick some copy & paste actions, it would be nice when it works, especially in the Chat Box. Ok, so english should solved this? I will try it! Thanks!
these logs look like you have a media source that's hanging
this can sometimes happen with .webms, since ffmpeg's support is still somewhat choppy there
i'd remove your media sources temporarily (even just moving the files), that ought to clear up the issue
Hello I need help
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
Thanks ! I will try that
can you provide more details? a clean log is probably best:
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
What’s that
do you not see the bot message?
I have a screen recording we’re it freezes
how to add in obs cam in discord?
Start the virtual camera
Then access Discord via Google Chrome rather than the app
You need to follow the steps outlined in the bot's message
So I made some adjustments to my setup but still running into issues with frames dropping. Doesn't drop as much or for too long but I think it's improving.
Gameplay hovers around 30fps while cutscenes run between 45-60fps; still trying to get 1080p60.
- 55.7% Rendering Lag

- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i7-8850H @ 2.60GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 560X - OK!
If you're recording, use Apple VT Hardware instead of x264 for the video encoder
For a 1080p@60 recording, set the bit rate to 20,000 kbps. (You can't use a CRF setting for Apple VT Hardware on Intel)
There’s Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder, Apple VT HVEC Hardware Encoder, and Apple HVEC T2 Hardware Encoder. Is there a difference?
H.264 produces a larger file size but is a more compatible file format, HEVC is a more compact file size while maintaining a high image quality, and I'm not sure about the last one
Seems odd for the T2 chip to have a video encoder on it 😄
- 36.6% Rendering Lag
- 17.1% Encoder Overload
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i7-8850H @ 2.60GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 560X - OK!
Hmm. I'd say the encoder lag is likely negligible given how short the recording is. The bigger issue is the rendering lag.
What's happening on your computer while you're running OBS Studio? How many other apps are open? And do you need all those audio filters on your mic source?
I have the activity monitor open to monitor which apps are using those most power. But it's just that and obs. I'd say so since it's just a lavalier mic and I don't have a professional stand/boom-arm mic like the sm7b or elgato wave:3.
Took another recording and screenshotted the activity monitor.
- 32.4% Rendering Lag
- 24.4% Encoder Overload
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i7-8850H @ 2.60GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 560X - OK!
high kernel_task usage means you're almost certainly hitting thermal throttling
The T2 chip is effectively a mini-iPhone chip - it has Secure Enclave and several encoder/accelerator cores that are usually found in A-series or M-series chips
Which is probably the only reason some Intel-Macs are still supported by macOS
Yes, the solution works, Thank you
I am having trouble with installing OBS on macbook pro
I install drag the app over the applications and when i go to open it crashes
can anyone help me
@frosty bronze However it does uses a lot and by a lot i mean A LOT of CPU. I guess this is only a temporary fix
I (think I) was sent here to ask this questions; #stream-setup message
Hi there j am trying to screen record my game and there’s no game capture option. I have the setting on in my privacy and nothing there.
there's no game capture on macos. that's for windows only.
Use the "macos screen capture" source
Ohhh okay
Then just click start recording ?
if it shows what you want to record in the preview, yes
My screens just black
!log
close obs, reopen, send a log
Okay
Do I just post it here @plucky zenith
yes

double click the screen capture source and show me the window that comes up?
It’s for my son he wants to record his sims games 😅
It’s not blank anymore but I can’t seem to figure out how to get onto his sims game
select application capture in method and then select the sims window
It isn’t giving that option
Just obs studio
and the sims is currently open?
Yes
did you select application capture or window capture?
Application capture
try with window?
👍
So I did a test record and it doesn’t actually play? Says it’s unsupported file
send a log again now that you did the recording?
that url isn't correct
That’s what it gave me
try doing it again then, there must have been smth wrong

!vlc
oh, try vlc
If you are having problems with playing content created by OBS Studio in Movies & TV or QuickTime Player, this is because the media player does not have proper format support. This causes missing video, audio, or for the file to not open at all.
We recommend VLC Media Player for better, accurate format support. Like OBS Studio, VLC Media Player is a free and open source project.
forgot quicktime doesn't do it
you're recording as an .mkv, which macOS can't play back out of the box. it might be better to record as fragmented mp4 or fragmented mov, which have the same advantages as .mkv. alternately you can get another media player as pen suggested like IINA or VLC
with what you said about VLC support on mac, you'd rather recommend fmp4 over vlc?
How would I change the save file ?
settings > output, change the format from mkv to fragmented mp4
I'd say fMOV would be the preferred on macOS probably
i'd recommend fmp4/fmov, or even vanilla .mov/.mp4 over .mkv honestly, and then separately i'd definitely recommend IINA over VLC
👍 I'll keep that in mind
ouki, ty 💜
Uhm I don’t have a settings option
below the start recording button
Oh haha
My kiddo wants to make sims videos so I’m just trying to get that to work for him lol 😂
(fair warning though, I'm not sure you'll manage to get good looking video with that computer but we'll get to that)
Yeah it’s a old laptop of mine 😅
I’d like to get a good pc but those cost money so 😅
in settings > output, in the "recording" section, under video encoder you should have some called "Apple VT" or something like that, try using it instead of x264, it's likely to work slightly better
I’ll try that! Thank you
Thanks everyone!
other issue is that you're currently downscaling the output to 480p (in settings > video) which will make it look very pixellated. Ideally it should be the same as the canvas (1080p) but the bigger it is, the harder it is for the encoder, and you're already kinda overloding at 480p, so idk if you can go much higher on that computer
with the hardware encoders, maybe
Good to know!
He loves to game and wants to stream and stuff so I’m trying to help him
Yesterday he played the old school sonic game and got all the chaos emeralds in one run … 😂😂😂
I don’t think it even took him very long either. 😂

I need to use OBS for a school project, I downloaded a few of the latest versions but I just get a "corrupt image" error from DiskImageMounter.app. I'm still on the ancient 10.13.6 High Sierra which I'm guessing is the problem so if anyone could point me to the last stable version that works with High Sierra I'd appreciate it!
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher.
- if you use an older version of macOS, you may see the "corrupted image" message (A). To solve this, download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see this symbol (B), download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
where is the help menu
Hey everyone, I’m sure this has been asked and discussed already but what’s the easiest way to remove background of webcam without green screen for free? Thanks in advance!

Logitech's OBS plugin may currently be causing OBS Studio to crash on launch. If this is the case for you, follow these instructions to remove it:
- Open Logitech's G HUB software
- In G HUB, select the menu, then Games and Applications. Choose OBS, then disable any enabled integrations
- Open Finder
- Click on the Go menu, then Go to Folder. Paste in the following then press Return :
/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins - Remove the
logi_obs_pluginfolder - Launch OBS Studio
this worked , but is there anyway to recover my settings?
if you saved the obs studio application support folder from before you removed it, then yes. that is the folder that contained all your settings and scenes
Seems my settings are all gone. Video recording is now only being output as a Photo and my automatic remux to MP4 setting is gone and nowwhere to be found?
OBS refusing to open again. 🥲 why me?
automatic remux is under settingss > advanced

How can I use my Logitech Yeti X without having to go through this everytime?
did you disable integrations in logitech ghub as mentionned?
I did
The bot told me the same thing yesterday, which worked. (and worked agian today). But want to avoid for the future
yeah, it apparently has a tendency to reinstall itself.
Are you sure you need ghub to use the mic?
i dont think so; I'll delete the app
probs the best way yeah
Would you happen to know why my recordings are only being output as photos? This may also be the reason why the Auto Remux isnt available for me in settings
as I told you, auto remux is in settings > advanced
not output
but you can also skip that step by selecting fragmented mp4 instead of mkv as the recording format
Ahh duh thanks
hard to read clearly when frustrated since yesterday with this lol appreciate your helo

Is anyone here?
yee
Can u help me with device connection to the obs?
if you have a problem, detail it
So I need to show my ipad screen on obs, but I can’t do that. The obs sees ipad but it can’t take the screen image
Also I would like to know how to reset settings
what settings?
My iPad screen supposed to be there
All of them
create a new profile
How?
in the top bar, profile > new
Then?
then that's it
I still can’t see my iPad screen
yeah that's unrelated to the ipad, that's just how to reset settings
I don't know about that, sorry
Can I place a link in this chat?
How do I add chat to the screen
Is it possible to add audio filters like noise suppression to a wireless receiver? I watched a youtube video demonstrating setting up a wireless mic with a receiver and transmitter to obs. When adding the source, it detects the receiver so I was wondering if audio filters would work.

if you've added the microphone as an audio input capture source, yes, you can add any filter. you can do this in OBS, or macOS has a "voice isolation" mode it can apply to the input at the system level in control center

uh, well, there's the stats dock that you can surface via docks->stats
this?
that is the stats dock, yes
ok
Can u screen record in HDR on OBS for Mac ?
No
Is there a way to offset source visuals backwards? As in, negative delay? Similar to putting a negative value in the Advanced Audio Properties for sync offset on an audio device, but for video.
Obviously this wouldn't take place in the preview, but once processed for stream/recording.
probably not possible with a simple filter, but you could add video delay on everything else
alternatively, you could have two instances of OBS running, the second one takes the video of the first one, delays it as a whole, then add your video that supposedly has a negative sync offset
why tho?
Apologies if this has been answered. I'm getting ready to teach using OBS with Zoom on a fully updated MBP and fully updated OBS. All of a sudden, in Zoom, OBS does not show up as a camera option (i.e., in the Zoom preferences for Video->Camera dropdown, OBS is not even showing). I've restarted everything, reinstalled OBS and still having this problem. This was working fine when I last used it on Friday.
!beta can you please try the release candidate?
OBS Studio 30.0 Beta is now out! More details can be found here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-30-beta.168984/
That fixed the problem.
Main reason is my camera is about 200ms off, so if I'm doing something in time with music/sound I have to adjust the sync offset for all audio to be delayed about 200ms.
Ideally, I'd only edit the problem device, but in this case I need every other device to cater for the problem device instead.
Seems like that just isn't really feasible, at least not yet. But thanks for helping :)
Does anyone know if there is a way to stop obs from picking up my tablet audio? Its causin my encoder error
just mute it or don't have it as a source, but I doubt it'd be causing an encoder error
Its says Audio overload and it list my tablet
The only other audio i have is pretzel rock and Mic, I am also a digital Artist, so I Kinda need it as a source
I apologise if this is a painfully simple question but I'd like to use the Chillhop radio stream in the background while streaming. I'm signed up to their program etc, so I'm at the stage where I'd like to set up the downloaded Spotify playlist they recommend to be an audio source, but without my whole computer audio (or at least not the computer mic) being an audio source.
All good, looks like I worked it out with the "macOS capture" and set to the Spotify app. I hadn't granted Screen Recording permissions, which was stopping me from setting the properties. (Just in case it's useful to someone else coming across this monologue...)
hello everyone - I hope this is not an old, out-of-date question, but I cannot find anything with the search function on this - could someone help with installing dynamic delay on mac? much appreciated!
I just installed OBS 30.0 beta RC2 on my Intel MBP. It's making the fans run and several processes are using a lot of resources. Is this something I should report, and if so, where? Thanks!
is this significantly different to 29.1.3?
Yes! I was able to teach a class without the fans running in 29.1.3/macOS 13. In macOS 14 with 30 RC2 the fans come on immediately. The fans running impacts the sound quality of the class, and is annoying to students.
if you return to OBS 29 on macOS 14 is the issue still present?
I am using the Virtual Camera feature, which is not available in OBS 29 on macOS 14.
com.apple.cmio.registerassistantservice 58.2 8:33.17 2 0 0.0 0.00 175 root 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 bytes Intel No Yes Yes (null) No 0 bytes 0 0 bytes 0 0 bytes 0 bytes 0 bytes No - 0 bytes 0 bytes No (null)

Sorry, more concise:
com.apple.cmio.registerassistantservice
OBS Studio
com.obsproject.obs-studio.mac-camera-extension
These are the processes that are using the most resources.
for the latter two processes, that is a normal amount of cpu use to expect. i'm not sure what that first process is up to
It does seem to be specifically the Virtual Camera feature that is causing the fans to run. When I turn off Virtual Camera, but keep OBS running, the resource usage is much less.
Without Virtual Camera running, my top 3 processes are Mail, OBS and Discord (in that order).
Turn on Virtual Camera, and these become the top 3 processes, and fans turn on immediately:
com.apple.cmio.registerassistantservice
OBS Studio
com.obsproject.obs-studio.mac-camera-extension
Also, There is a delay of almost a minute between when I quit OBS and when the microphone indicator in the menu bar disappears.
that first process is an apple system process. i'm not sure why it would be using a significant amount of CPU with the virtual camera on. the two processes that OBS controls, obs studio and com.obsproject.obs-studio.mac-camera-extension are both using a normal amount of CPU there though
this is a known issue, as far as i know it's on the macOS end
All right. Thanks for listening. Hopefully some fine tuning will help going forward. Thanks for your good work!
it wouldn't hurt to report the issue to apple, specifically the com.apple.cmio.registerassistantservice usage. to me at least, that seems erroneous
Are you saying that that doesn't sho up on your Intel test machine?
no, i can reproduce it on my apple silicon machine as well
i'm saying it seems like there's at least a possibility that there's a macOS bug
Any tips on where and how to report this for a non-developer?
there's a built in app called feedback assistant.app that ought to be findable in spotlight
Wow! That's a new one to me! Thanks for pointing that out.
at the very least, as far as we know, OBS is doing everything related to camera extensions in the "apple-prescribed" way. so if there's a significant regression in terms of the amount of resources with the new virtual camera format, that's grounds for a feedback in my mind regardless of whether it's technically a bug
Hello! I am having a huge struggle trying to figure this out. I'm trying to screen record and audio is not coming out my speakers, nor is it looking like my multi-output device is working. My recorded videos do not contain any audio either. I am using BlackHole to get my audio. This has worked in the past with no problems, but now returning to it it's not working at all.
what version of macOS are you using?
Ventura 13.3.1
if you want desktop audio recorded, i'd highly recommend dropping blackhole and simply using macos screen capture sources, which capture audio automatically
it's available on ventura and above
Okay thanks, I'll give that a try!
normally it should have been fixed in RC2
https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/pull/9768
i did that fix, this is something else
indeed
this could be a Sonoma 14.1 thing, but has anybody else noticed a regression with native macOS window capture and OBS 30, where the video capture looks fine on a stream but from my perspective the game seems to be dropping frames, and cursor input is laggy?
what window/application?
Minecraft 1.20.2, it's playable but pretty disorienting - I don't mind so much because the capture looks fine to me, but very odd that I would experience lag and the capture would be fine
odd enough that I strongly suspect it's macOS doing something weird whilst capturing
are you sure that it's unique to 14.1?
not 100% sure but it was bad enough after upgrading that it was obvious
the odd input lag thing happens when Minecraft "UI" is open in game - if you open a crafting table and drag items around for example, it's like 5 FPS 🤯
and totally fine when OBS is closed / not capturing
actually let me double check it happens during a preview capture and not just when actively streaming
yeah lags in UI as soon as there's a capture, streaming or not, so I bet it's macOS 🤔
i think i technically still have a minecraft license from like 2010 and i haven't updated to 14.1 yet, so maybe i'll test this
another odd observation: FPS tanks any time the cursor is moving in the window whilst capturing, only when you have UI open (so, if the cursor is still, FPS is fine)
perhaps some odd interaction between the native capturing and lwjgl
couple questions...so you're using macos screen capture, correct, and not the deprecated window capture? if so, is it in the window capture mode?
does it only occur in window capture mode, or does it also occur in display capture mode?
does it occur with the window at any size, or only at e.g. large sizes?
above done with macOS native capture, in window capture mode, 1920x1080 window size - I'll try the others
macOS native whole screen capture doesn't cause it, only happens in native window mode
it also appears to be approximately linear with window size 😄 small window doesn't have any appreciable frame drops, large window is pretty bad
uh oh. that makes me fearful that apple shipped a regression
can you open activity monitor and report how much memory windowserver is using?
sure, is it just called "windowserver"?
yep
windowserver is definitely a process, you can search in the top right
sure I'll check
ah I had it filtered to "my processes" - shows in "all processes"
CPU and memory usage both seem high for that process?
cpu is normal but memory is definitely high
@west cypress sorry for the ping...is there any chance that the window capture scaling/performance/giant RAM use ballooning at large window sizes issue made it back into 14.1?
@twin plank i'll need to wait to hear confirmation. before 14.0, there was a macOS bug with the window capture mode specifically where windowserver would try to render windows at enormous scales under certain conditions, and slow down the entire system. your symptoms sound identical to that issue, so i really hope that apple didn't re-ship it on accident
sure, thanks for following it up 🙂
hey everyone, tried streaming just now and got this video setting suggestion, the stream was lagging quite a bit, the app seems to be using up quite a bit of the CPU, any suggestions on how to troubleshoot or use the best settings for the setup?
I'm streaming online poker, and funnily enough the program I'm using today is just a different skin of the same poker room I've been streaming recently, which has been running smoothly and not using up as much of the CPU....
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
hi! My Chrome has stopped showing OBS virtual cam as a source.
chrome is a bit fucky with the vcam, try in firefox
even on firefox, it doesnt show up ;_;
my bad, had a brainfart, I thought this was windows support. You're on macos 14?
yep!
!beta
use the beta
OBS Studio 30.0 Beta is now out! More details can be found here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-30-beta.168984/
(basically, macos 14 deprecated the way obs did the vcam before, so a new vcam has been made that works for it, but it's only in 30.0)
ohhh. I was going crazy to why one day it stopped working. I'll try it out now and let you know if it's working.
also, what's differences between OBS-Studio-30.0.0-rc2-macOS-Apple.dmg
and OBS-Studio-30.0.0-rc2-macOS-Intel.dmg?
intel is for x64, or intel macs
first one if your mac is apple silicon, second if it's intel
apple silicon meaning, m1, m2, etc.
if you don't know which, the "about this mac" thingie should tell you
Sweet!
(also if you download the wrong one it'll be immediately obvious it's the wrong one XD)
Always good to double check :P. I really do appreciate your efforts to help. And its working!!!! :celebrate

Hello! My text portion of my scene is very blurry and I don't know why? It hasn't done this in the past. Could someone please assist?

hello. i'm using OBS to output from a capture card. the video output is both way too saturated and way too dark, as you can see in the image. is there a way to fix this with obs' color correction?
When I stream, the quality of it, is bad. Is there a way to fix that
Hi folks , apologies if this question has been discussed before.
I wanted to do some tutorials etc so I wanted to get the zoom track and follow mouse feature working
I did a bit of setup but as I am on the Mac the zoom does not work as expected
Does anyone have a definitive solution for this for Mac users

- macOS 13.6 (OK)
- 0.3% Rendering Lag
- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i7-7920HQ @ 3.10GHz - Possible bottleneck / Radeon Pro 560 - OK!
Does OBS works on Whatsapp desktop?
I have tried using it but it always shows that Camera is being used by some other app
Is there any solution?
There are a few forum posts about it, but most say it doesn't work, while other post state that you need NDI in order to make it work.
However one post says the WhatsApp Desktop only detects physical cameras.
Generally how these things work is that if the camera works everywhere else, then the program itself is blocking it for any number of reasons.
Not sure if anyone has tried streaming Baldurs Gate 3 or not, but it doesn't give me the option to capture it using Mac OS Screen capture
what capture mode are you using?
I use Mac OS Screen Capture, BG3 isn't even listed even tho I have it running
application capture
try window capture instead of application capture, afaik some games can be touchy with application capture
thank you! that worked, not sure why but I've always used application capture
if it's fullscreen in another space, macos screen capture will not see it as an option
not sure if that's your issue but could be

how do i completely uninstall obs from my macbook pro?
i'm trying to take a virtually proctored exam and both chrome and firefox use obs as the default cam even after i deleted it which is preventing me from showing myself
from what i understand there are remnants of the app somewhere that still need to be deleted but i'm not sure how to access them
like even after i selected facetime hd it still uses obs
what version of macOS are you on?
big sur version 11.4
roger that, the old virtual camera plugin is stored in this folder: /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plugins/DAL/
if you remove it, it should stop appearing in applications. if you don't know how to get to that folder, you'll want to go to finder, then cmd-shift-g, and paste that path in
you should remove the OBS plugin files from that folder, yes
and no, OBS doesn't store anything else on the system. it stores its own settings and your scenes, but they don't do anything if OBS isn't open
so once i delete these files i should be all set?
i think it worked bc obs isnt shown as an option in the drop down list on firefox or chrome
yes, if those files are gone that's all there is to it
thank you so much
Hi I have a Problem the Programs for Virtual cameras like chromacam / xsplit wont
which version of macos are you on?
14.1 they wont appear in the Settings selection for Video Source
!beta
yeah 14 blocks the old OBS virtualcam. A new virtualcam has been made for obs 30.0, but it's still in beta
OBS Studio 30.0 Beta is now out! More details can be found here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-30-beta.168984/
thank you I was completely puzzled about it
Still not showing up I may consider downgrading to Ventura I think
were you prompted to install the system extension and did you enter your password?
yes and I can see Virtual Camera as well but Chromacam still not showing up in the list
oh. well that's a chromacam issue
Its also with Xsplit
i didn't even know xsplit made a virtual camera for mac
probably the exact same reason the OBS one didn't show, contact their support to see if they have made an updated version
I looked for it and even freshly downloaded and installed them
they have to make fundamental changes to the architecture of their programs for them to work on macOS 14. if they don't explicitly say they support macOS 14, they likely have not made the necessary changes
so this seems to be an issue between the three, macOS, OBS and both of the Softwares
OBS 30's virtual camera is completely compatible with macOS 14. i cannot speak for the other two programs
what workflow do you have that requires the use of three different virtual cameras?
I just use chromacam cause I have no space for greenscreen
Xsplit was just testing cause chromacam didn´t work
so your use for chromacam is to do a virtual greenscreen?
yeah
hey guys can you help me, im on my imac and when i try to get obs it says "the following disks couldnt be opened. corrupt image
can you guys help please
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher.
- if you use an older version of macOS, you may see the "corrupted image" message (A). To solve this, download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see this symbol (B), download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio

that didnt work
what version of macos are you on?
what version of obs are you trying to install?
idk the one i can install

i tried all of them none worked said corrupt iamge
did you try 27.2.4?

how does one decrease the amount of memory that the replay buffer uses
cuz right now it's nearing 2GB despite only being 60 seconds
im using macos12 on an m1 btw, if that changes anything
hello, did you download obs on your macbook? it says the site is damaged? how to solve the problem
what are your encoder settings? assuming that the replay buffer stores everything in memory, which i'm not sure if it does, there will be a linear relationship between the size of the output and the amount of memory used
can you take a screenshot of the error you're seeing?

I meant that it actively uses around 2GB of memory in the activity monitor, not storage space - each 60-second clip is roughly 48MB or so
The video encoder is set to Use Stream Encoder, which is x264, and the audio encoder is set to CoreAudio AAC
I’m recording in .mkv format, if that makes a difference
After I updated to Sonoma 14.1, my virtual camera disappeared from sources everywhere. Is this is a reported issue here?
Seems like Reddit found a complex solution to my above problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/VIDEOENGINEERING/comments/17ahygl/did_macos_sonoma_141_just_remove_the_ability_to/
I guess I shall wait. 😭
well yes, the solution is to update obs, and the new obs update is partly due to that
I've just found that the M3 series chip now support AV1 hardware encoding and decoding. As I'm not a developer, I wonder how long will it take to add support for it. Just curious, I have no plan to upgrade my MacBook and I'm not urging the developers.
generally when new hardware like that releases, it has to release first, and only then software will follow suit
I have the newest OBS Studio 29.1.3 - I guess version 30 will be compatible soon...
you could try the release candidate

@twin plank i updated to 14.1 and i cannot reproduce your macos screen capture window capture issue. are you still experiencing it?
Hi all, I have been trying to fix a problem with OBS, tried searching everywhere and found no solution so wondering if anyone on here might have a solution. When trying to show my Chat on OBS everytime I enter the link for the overlay from Stream Elements it never shows up. I have searched sites and videos and tried everything really stuck would really appreciate any help!
What is the best setup for MacBook Pro? (Resolution and fps)
Please run the OBS auto-configuration tool. To use the auto-config, click on the Tools menu in OBS, select Auto-Configuration Wizard, and then just follow the on-screen directions. You can use this tool to get a set baseline settings for your hardware, and adjust as necessary from there.
I was expecting a little better
if the auto configuration tool chose those settings for you, your hardware is likely quite old
Is there any way to fix that?
fix what, exactly?
Never mind
if those settings are appropriate for your hardware, raising them will probably lead to rendering and/or encoder lag, which is worse than subpar quality
If you have an Intel Mac, check out the details in https://obsproject.com/kb/hardware-encoding#vt at the bottom of the page

Evening all. Sorry if this has been covered, but I'm running into the issue where my OBS (v29.1.3) virtual camera is not showing up in Zoom (v5.16.6 {24664}) running on a MacBook Pro running Sonoma 14.1.
I've already uninstalled and reinstalled OBS v28 and then v27.
the OBS 29 and earlier virtual camera isn't compatible with macOS 14. if you need the virtual camera, you'll need to use OBS 30
...and checked that the app file was "read and write" enabled.
OBS 30 is in the release candidate phase...see #beta-testing-30-archive or https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases
Installed v30 OBS, and it's working perfectly! Thank you for your help.
no probs 👍
can someone help me with the OBS background removal

are you positive that this memory use is unique to the replay buffer? i.e. is it there with the replay buffer off and simply recording or streaming?
Only the buffer is enabled, i am not recording or streaming otherwise
oh and this is when the preview is disabled, though i doubt that makes any substantial difference
can you check the memory use while recording and not using the replay buffer?
sure, i'll do that later today
Hello,
english is not so good, but i will try.
since I make an update in Mac it is not possible to use the vurtual Cam in Google chrome oder discord.

i need help with something
i cant seem to find the hide obs while recording box
is it not avaliable with mac
it is not on 29.1.3. the 30.0 beta added something similar if I remember correctly
i have a friend he has it hes using windows
yes
what can i do im trying to record a video on a mac
and i dont want the obs to show up on recording
well the easiest solution is to either not record the full screen, or to minimize obs
im kinda new to obs could tell me how to minimize obs
like any window, you press the yellow button in the top left of it
what about just recording a window not fullscreen
use the "window capture" mode of the macos screen capture source
thank you
why are you using x264 isntead of the built in hardware blocks?
That’s a damn good question
yeah that fixed it lmao
that might also explain why the bitrate looked kinda fucky in replays
Thank you!
I was willing to accept you had a legitmate reason, but its nice to know that fixed it 🙂

Hi there, I'm in macOS 14.1 on an Intel MBP and I'm trying out the latest RC2 of OBS 30.0.0, but the virtual camera is just a black screen in every application where I can look at a camera as a video source. The preview in OBS looks fine.
can you click on the cog next to the "start virtual camera" button and show a screenshot of the window that appears?
set it to "Internal" and "Program output", check if it's still black
Sorry, where is Internal?
sorry Program (default)
Oh hey, I can see the stream now!
Thanks, I clicked around in those options before but somehow didn't realize Program worked.
👍 don't forget to close the github issue
Okay, will do
Now if only the screen recording notification would go away after I close OBS, I'd be all set. Having to log out to get rid of the big blue icon is a pretty big pain. Is that happening to anyone else?
yeah it's afaik a macos-side bug
it happens to everyone. killing replayd via activity monitor will remove it as well
It's weird because I don't have that thing stick around with other apps. Though the only app I could find on my HD which triggers it is ScreenFlow, and it puts itself away nicely after I stop recording.
But this is really handy info, thanks. I've had to log out/in so many times lately while testing OBS.
Amusingly, Apple's own QT Player does not put the notifier in the menu bar when you do a screen recording. They seem to have exempted themselves from the requirement.
yeah quicktime screen recording i don't think uses the same resources. it also drops tons of frames at higher resolutions
Yeah, I don't use it for anything. Not even playing movies! I play movies with IINA which is ffmpeg-based and I record my screen with ScreenFlow most of the time. OBS is great for setting up more complex scenes and mixing audio, etc. OBS is my screen recorder of choice on PC too since ScreenFlow is Mac-only.
Hey guys hoping someone can help me

Wondering if anyone can help me figure this out.
The native Twitch chat widget has BTTV but can't get it to work in a custom dock that points to Twitch chat.
When I select Twitch as my Stream Service in Settings, there's an option to enable BetterTTV emotes in chat.
The problem is that I want to use Restream, which means the "native" chat dock is replaced with Restream's chat. When I try to add a custom widget pointing to my Twitch chat I don't get the BTTV experience in the custom widget.
I have the browser extension installed (in my regular Chrome) and I tried to use the same url Twitch is using for its "native" Twitch chat doc but I still only get the regular chat. Clearly there's some additional ingredient that makes the native chat different but I'm not sure how to achieve it with a custom widget. Does anyone have any tips on this?
If it helps I'm on MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.6 (22G120) and OBS 29.1.3.
not possible to have bttv in chat dock, apart with the integrations
Yeah, use the version of the dock that comes with the Twitch integration
Then be sure to enable BTTV
Then be sure to enable it from the chat’s settings
Although imho enable FFZ instead and then turn on its BTTV features like emoji
But I can't do that once I'm using Restream as my stream. The "original" chat dock is replaced by Restream's chat.
Ah
Tell you what’s a great alternative
Chatty, a chat app for Twitch that can have BTTV/FFZ features enabled
I'll check that out.
But I also was hoping someone here can explain what's the magic causing the "native" dock work even though everything is supposedly going through the same browser internal parts.
Simply the integration version has BTTV/FFZ provided by OBS itself, whereas adding a custom dock is separate so the integration is not provided
Nothing particularly magical about it
It’s not a web browser, it’s a mistake to think every use of the browser component within the program provides the same features :-)
I understand, the part that stumbled me was that I could "copy the url" from that and it pointed to the chat, I understand it's more complex than that but I wish there was still a way to evoke the native docks even if selecting a different integration. Especially with anything that's multistream like Restream since the whole point is not to exclude platforms.
Restream has its own chat
Perhaps you could make a feature request for them to add BTTV integration to it
Couldn’t hurt
Hi, with the new macos obs update the sony alpha 7III no longer sees me as a camera, I tried restarting, resetting and installing everything again but nothing.
!beta
macos 14 deprecated the thing obs uses to do its virtual camera.
a new one has been made for obs 30.0, but it's still in beta
OBS Studio 30.0 Beta is now out! More details can be found here:
https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-studio-30-beta.168984/
nothing even with the update it doesn't see the Sony cam
I have a question(maybe it's silly). Why is OBS and other software like VLC based on ffmpeg4.4 instead of ffmpeg6.0?
OBS at least isn’t
we're on 6.0
to be precise, OBS uses this commit: https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/commit/a6dc92968a325d331bb6dcf9b3b2248026cd1d6c
as for VLC, I couldn't tell you (if they are in the first place)
OK, I get it, maybe.
hello, my OBS wont even start and just stuck at not responding. i have attached the manual log
that looks to me like OBS is starting successfully, but something is slowing it to a crawl. possibly a plugin?
i dont think ive ever installed plugins, apart from OBS link
what else can i check maybe?
you have obs-ndi as well. if you aren't using that especially, i'd try with it removed
i need it to be able to broadcast my nintendo switch. do you think i should update it if there's an update needed?
seems like it's up to date as well
i would still try removing it to see if that's what the issue is
if it is, you'll probably want to contact them
what would be the optimial way to remove plugins from OBS?
im sorry but im not sure 🙈
no worries. if they're installed correctly, they should live in this folder: ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/plugins
if you dont know how to get there, use finder and cmd-shift-g and paste that in
alright, i got it :D so just deleting it should be fine?
im thinking maybe reinstalling might be a good idea too
just the folder for the ndi plugin should be sufficient
reinstalling is unlikely to do anything
alright, ill check then. thanks a lot :D
deleting the scenes seemed to do the trick 🙈
i dont mind puting them all together again. however, seems like my audio now is very static-y as well when i tried recording 🫠
so what of removing the plugin? are you saying that did not resolve it? we should go step by step here
yeah i removed the plugin and it also opened OBS successfully and like you said, reinstalling obs link + the NSI thingy didnt help at all
but since i needed the plugin to show my Nintendo Switch on OBS, i searched in google and someone suggested to remove the scene from the directory, which i did and OBS opened and im able to use the NDI plugin as well
which scene specifically needed to be removed?
the one that holds all my scenes in this directory Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes
it's the .json file
oh, so just all scenes
yeah, im guessing if you add another scene that uses NDI, it will do the same thing as before
yeah, for now it's opening OBS. not sure once i turn off computer and back on if it will still work
now, when i try to record a gameplay, all i hear is static noises from the background music
we could look at a clean log. im guessing this is just more NDI misbehavior
!maccleanlog
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

- Third-Party Plugins (1)
Intel Core i7-9750H @ 2.60GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 5300M - OK!
here it is
did you reproduce the audio issue in this recording?
yes unfortunately. everytime i try to record, the audio issue is always there
i dont even need to do anything, it's just like that when recorded
oh, the audio is just in the ndi_source it seems like
yeah, this is just NDI having issues
don't think there's anything that can be done besides "go ask them", unfortunately
oh yeah i forgot to mention that for audio from other places like desktop audio, it's fine
just in my game recordings
right
but thanks for clarifying! i guess it really is an NDI issue
i appreciate the help! :D
ciao ho bisogno di aiuto chi mi puo aiutare con obs???

the fact is that i cant start the stream because it keeps telling me An encoding error occurred while streaming
You can still send the log after that happens
Hi, can someone help me use Reaper DAW on OBS for my MacBook? Can’t figure out how to make it appear as a VST plug-in in OBS.
OBS Studio supports most VST2 plugins. More information can be found here, including restrictions and plugin install paths: https://obsproject.com/wiki/Filters-Guide#vst-plugin
Hello I am worried that after I close obs it still records my screen
OBS does not do that, you do not need to worry. if you are talking about the capture indicator that stays on the menu bar, that's a bug that will eventually be fixed
sorry i have another question
if i want OBS to only pick up on my screen noise e.g the game and music but not the sounds outside my computer e.g my voice do i use audio imput?
OBS Studio running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Screen Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
In facetime, Teams, Zoom, when using webcam, reactions can be turned off. When OBS virtual camera is used, deselecting "Reactions" does not turn them off.
hi everyone, i am a beginner in OBS. I am recording my video with iPhone and iPhone sends the frame to Macbook m2. Then OBS shows my video on Youtube. However when something moves, camera focus automatically. How can I turn off auto focus? I HAVE A STREAMING VIDEO TOMORROW!
can you provide more specific steps? in my testing, i do not get options for reactions, etc. for the virtual camera specifically in the menu bar at all. do you see those options for the virtual camera?
there is also a known macOS issue where applying effects to one device will apply them to all devices, despite the UI telling you that they aren't on, so it may be tough to distinguish from that issue
im starting to stream and learning the basics of obs, im trying to download a template from own3d and it says. i need to go to tools and pick own3d pro but theres nothing there what do i do?
@wild monolith Oops, I misread your question and had the bot send the wrong info.

To use your iPhone or Android phone as a webcam, follow the Smartphone Camera Guide.
Instead of using Continuity Camera, which does not allow you to control things like auto-focus, use something like Camo or EpocCam
the plugin for multy stream stop working it starts but dose not go to youtube
Iv been using this all night but Im not getting any audio signal. Pretty sure I'v followed all instructions but clearly something is missing. OS 12.7 Monterey. Any ideas? Im trying to display capture a video. All works perfectly except the audio. The audio meters show no signal so Im quite sure the problem is with Obs...
what exactly are you using for the audio
trying to record web browser audio (firefox) but obs doesnt pick up any other desktop audio.. I have added blackhole 16ch as audio output capture source and in settings > audio > desktop audio. Followed all other instructions too
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features.
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
does it need mic and camera permissions even if not using them (only display capture)?
just to be entirely sure, grant all
ok thanks. Now I have sound. But its just like very loud delayed feedback...
!am
set it to monitor off
To hear your audio sources through your own speakers/headset:
1. In OBS Settings → Audio, set your Monitoring Device to the speakers/headset through which you wish to hear the source audio, then click OK
2. Click the Edit menu → Advanced Audio Properties
3. For each device you wish to hear, change Audio Monitoring to:
- Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
- Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
- Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording
Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.
and remove Audio Output Capture btw, just use the desktop audio one
thanks yes Iv done that. checking bot list
alright! seems to be working
thanks for your help!

Hello, i have an issue ive seen around the internet but they seem to be old and everything has moved around and changed.
My issue is that the window capture source barely picks up anything such as google chrome or other applications i would like to capture. I would like to fix this and see all my windows rather than just random ones
This shows you haven't granted OBS Studio the necessary permissions

I thought the same thing but screen recoding has been on though
Try resetting your permissions using these instructions
If OBS Studio reports that it does not have system permissions but they do show up in System Preferences/Settings, follow these steps to fully reset permissions for OBS Studio.
- Quit OBS Studio and System Preferences/Settings
- Open the Terminal app (located in
/Applications/Utilities) - Copy-paste this command then press Return:
sudo tccutil reset All com.obsproject.obs-studio - Type in your user password then press Return. Nothing will appear on screen while you do this.
- Open OBS Studio again, then set your permissions straight away in OBS the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
Also, make sure you have only one copy of OBS Studio installed in /Applications. Multiple copies of the application causes issues with properly setting permissions.

ok so it looks fine when i convert the mkv file to mp4, but when watching the original mkv file i see that bitrate issue i was talking about ... huh???
i converted it via handbrake, maybe it fixed some things or smthn
I don't see any "bitrate issue"
and if you want to convert from mkv to mp4, remux, don't reencode
!remux
Remuxing allows you to take one video container (FLV, MKV, etc) and make an exact copy of the video and audio in another video container. This process takes seconds, and can be done with any recordings made with OBS by selecting File > Remux Recordings.
Remuxing is the safest way to get MP4 files for use in editors, or other software which doesn't support FLV or MKV files.
i might be calling it the wrong thing
but pixels kinda tear and blend when looking in different directions - lemme see if i can record the recording and post that here instead
remux the file, check if it looks good to you
for reference
just did, took a look and yeah i don't notice it at all
remuxing doesn't change the video at all. so that means the issue is your media player is bad with mkv
i use VLC for mac, weird
alright well that's good to know, thank you so much!
one last thing, i think i saw an "auto-remux" setting somewhere, should i enable that? or just leave it disabled
my editor program does accept mkv files tho
if you want to automatically remux yes, if you don't want to, no
though for some reason, the mkv file i posted above was 50MB, whereas the mp4 version i posted in my first message is onlt 39.3MB
so should i just change it to record in mp4 format to save storage space, or does that take more memory? no idea ngl
No
Record to FLV or MKV. If you record to MP4 and the recording is interrupted, the file will be corrupted and unrecoverable. If you require MP4 files for some other purpose like editing, remux them afterwards by selecting File > Remux Recordings in the main OBS Studio window.
Hi all 👋
I'm new to OBS and streaming to YouTube, but have been making solid progress (in my opinion 😅 )
I did a stream last night, and noticed one of the my sources was severely delayed compared to others...
I'm not 100% sure what was causing this, but I checked the Stats dock mid-stream, and noticed the following stat in red:
Frames missed due to rendering lag: 20%
How would you suggest I identify what is causing these missed frames?
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)

How do I get a Video Capture Device in my OBS Studio for Mac? I want to stream a game from steam (Jackbox) and it works best with a game capture device source.
Currently I've been just using display capture instead but I don't believe this is the best method for Jackbox
The Game Capture source is made for Windows only and is not available on macOS. To capture games, you should macOS Screen Capture (macOS 13 and later) or Window/Display Capture (macOS 12 and prior).
What does the source Syphon Client do? It shows a video game icon?
How is this helpful?
It's a deprecated source, it used to be similar to Game Capture (on Windows) but no longer works
In modern macOS, use macOS Screen Capture
Thanks for the help
How is what helpful?
Sorry, I may be missing something
Hey y'all - I have a 4 channel audio interface and I wanted to separate it into two separate stereo audio sources (channels 1-2 and 3-4). I haven't found a way to do it yet - anyone have any ideas?
this isn't currently possible in OBS out of the box, unfortunately
your best bet would be to use a third party program to output those stereo mixes to simulated input devices , i.e. blackhole or similar
@forest axle Ah ok I figured it might not be possible in obs - is blackhole what you'd recommend?
i haven't used blackhole for that purpose specifically, but sure, it should work
oooorrr actually maybe not
since OBS amalgamates the inputs from blackhole
you'd need two separate devices
i don't know what the best solution for this offhand would be
Oof, yeah I even tried 2 of the same audio interface and macos only allowed one at a time
yeah, that's a macOS limitation. you'd definitely want a software solution that allows for creating multiple emulated input devices, and then routing audio to those devices. i just don't know what that solution is
ideally some point in the future OBS will support multitrack audio inputs properly, but unfortunately no one has been able to see that effort through
Thank you for persevering.
Zoom seems to be behaving now... But MS Teams is still an issue.
The Reactions option appears under OBS (not under Teams or Zoom), but do not turn off whether the option is selected or deselected.
i’m using chat link pro and i changed my HD60X audio monitoring to monitor and output but now i can’t hear anything and when i change it back still nothing and the audio balance is greyed out
you're sure you didn't mute it?
i believe so i can hear my ps5 sound through my headset but very very low

- macOS 13.2 (OK)
- No Output Session

are the bars for "audio input capture" moving in the mixer?
no
does the capture card's audio work in any other program?
this is the only program i use i’m new to this whole thing
try in discord, or audacity
will do thanks
okay so 1 more question. the mic i’m using through my ps5 controller isn’t even an option to add to my sources on OBS and i have the chat link pro cable hooked up
how do i get that to work
what port are you plugging the ChatLink Pro into on your PC?
its not a USB device, so it wont appear as a device itself. Just the audio jack that is already on your PC
i have my chat link pro plugged into my controller and the headset plugged into the cable connecting to the HD60X
and the audio isnt going thru the HD60X?
my mic audio isn’t picking up just the game audio

i am not currently able to reproduce this. for me, turning off reactions works, though because of the macOS issue i might have to toggle it on and off for it to properly turn off. the behavior you're describing happening in only teams and not other applications also seems unusual
are you having an issue?
I wish this simple question was "searchable" but unfortunatley certain company made it impossible to find an answer. Here we go: "How do I zoom in on a camera?" My laptop is a couple of feet away from me and I would like to use virtual camera from OBS in zoom meetings, but I want to figure out first if there is an OBS setting that would allow me to "zoom in" :). Thanks!
This depends on your camera. What do you use?
the camera itself is MacBook Air built-in, so has no zoom. I was hoping I can find a software that can "zoom in" digitally
You can certainly do that with software such as Camo Studio
Or in OBS Studio, you can apply a crop filter to the source for your camera, but keep it the same physical size on your scene
Hello, I updated my Mac OS and now for some reason my OBS isn't detectable by Zoom, any suggestions on how to fix this? I updated zoom and restarted my Mac, and downloaded 29.1.3 and I still can't get it to show up as a video source. any suggestions would be appreciated
do you mean the virtual camera?
yes
gotcha. the 29.1.3 virtual camera isn't compatible with macOS 14; if you need the virtual camera you'll need to use the OBS 30 release candidate
thank you ❤️
you probably want the one labeled OBS-Studio-30.0.0-rc2-macOS-Apple.dmg assuming you're on an apple silicon machine
under assets
thank youuuu
I just had a zoom meeting and felt a like dork because I couldn't get it to work and realized it was because I updated my OS 🙈
Hi, new here and new to OBS... When I set up restream.io, my twitch stream is black with just my voice and my youtube stream was okay.. I do have screen recording allowed for OBS, and newest updates on both my Mac and OBS.. can anyone possibly help me with this?
Given that the YouTube stream is working fine, that issue would be at the Restream level, not the OBS one. I would consult their support.
Could it have been that I renamed the stream after starting the live?

what is the issue
Hello what are the requirements to run obs i just wanna make sure i have all what i need right now i have am mac0S 10.13.6 i know i need to upgraded it ETC
!macversions
you can run obs on 10.13, but it'll have to be an old version (but should work)
The currently-supported version of OBS Studio (29.1+) runs on macOS 11 Big Sur and higher.
- if you use an older version of macOS, you may see the "corrupted image" message (A). To solve this, download an appropriate older version of OBS Studio.
- if you are running macOS 11 or higher but still see this symbol (B), download the latest Intel version of OBS Studio
Ok ty
It does not recognize the camera or the eos webcam utility program
