here in Brazil the 9060 XT are bein sold for quite a decent price... nearly 200 usd less than the 5060 TI.. both the 16GB versions, ofc
there was that interview response, from that guy in front o marketing of the Radeon brand... he said some dumb shit, wouldve been way better if he hadnt said anythin
well, i think this is a case of interpreting stats all wrong but being technically right
majority of gamers are also in very poor countries, like the majority of humans
the 16gb version is only ever so slightly more expensive than the 8gb one
and yea they do play at 1080p and play games that run well on toasters like cs, dota2, LoL etc
depends on region
also depends on brand and retailer as well
here it's like £50 for some of them which is a significat %
i think it would have been better if it was like a flat 12gb card no different versions but idk
would need to increase bus width then i believe but thats just a good thing imo, probably would be a good tradeoff for 4gb less ram
one retailer here has the cheapest 8gb version at £270 and cheapest 16gb version at £350 thats a huge difference
yeah.. definetely, but it prob requires some extra work, otherwise i see no reason why they wouldnt have gone with that
the issue with the 8g vs 16g is mostly for the uninformed ppl
its all about profit, i think they figured this way they'd get more bucks by forcing ppl to upgrade to the 16gb version for a far greater premium than it costs them
illusion of choice
not what i expected from AMD but its natural they would now follow in the footsteps of the market leader ngreedia
altho the 8gb version is a solid choice for 1080p
just dont ever expect to play at anything higher
i play at 1664x936, but sadly i also use windows 7 atm and i bet amd dont release drivers for that so i guess they messed up their plan, didnt see windows 7 in their stats 😂
only for lighter titles
recent heavier ones already pegs 8gb with certain ease
yeah but i think it'd be fine mostly, ofc it wont be for too long either, thats part of the scam
and u cant always expect to play at highest settings in mid-lower range gpus anyway
honestly i'd buy that shit right away if i could actually use it xd
would be a nice upgrade over the 1660 i have but i only play old games so its like whatever
https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/map/electricity_average/
I thought PC gaming might be an expensive hobby to operate with electric prices, but converting to USD doesn't give insight into purchasing power outside the US right?
probably why no one is invading Iran for their 0.4 cents kWh electrical grid
ah Zimbabwe is 25% the price of Iran, and they probably don't have nukes
They went straight to the source of that energy instead

whats your city temp?
Today's high was 88f (31c) . Now it's 86 and we have a nice breeze, so it feels a lot cooler. We don't have air conditioning in the house except for one room, so it's been a lil sweaty. How about you?

its decent for now due to been cloudy but summer is too hot averaging mostly at 36c
I am using AC to use my pc but i dont feel its healthy to use daily
Hopefully it stays moderate for you for quite awhile longer.
Need ac for your pc or yourself?
Ac for pc
I dont like to stay in AC but since i stay in same room to use pc i cant avoid it.
I set AC at 24 or 23c whenever i want to play heavy AAA game at max settings
AC set to 18C here.
if you're okay with less fps, you could undervolt the gpu and only lose slightly over 10% clock speed for 30% less power consumption (assuming you had the clocks increased with stock voltage, originally)
eh, it really is just about 10% less clock speed for 30% less power consumption on the top end
I am aware of it but i dont want change things except i do use 65c thermal limit in bios sometimes because i am worried about pc parts if i change things so i like to use default
you can also do a simple power limit, it works reasonably well (can't dial in like custom clocks can, though)
Move to cold country, use 5090 as heater, never need to worry about pc temps, ez life
its hard to move to another country because of passport, visa to live permanently
are there any cold country with good internet and easy to travel? still i need to find source of income there which is too much hassle :(
Scandinavia i guess
svalbard
naaah, just stick to like Alta. still in the polar circle, but also on the continent
yeah but svalbard solves the visa problem by not requiring any

did you post in the wrong server?
not a bad upscale?
just a random photo of my carpet I took and a model I downloaded from online
there's apparently even more powerful upscalers out there
it... looks very fake, and kind of like a painting... but, considering all it had to go with is the downscaled photo...
it's specifically 4xRealWebPhoto_v3_atd model
Hmm apparently my account is still enabled for 1440p.
I heard that you get kicked out if you don't use it but apparently I avoided that.

(if only they would offer decent Bitrate when using 720p as your base resolution)

In this subsection, we introduce the details of our proposed token dictionary cross-attention block. In comparison to the existing multi-head self-attention (MSA), which generates query, key, and value tokens by the input feature itself
this is way over my head
anyway, that's what I used to upscale the image
Multilayer perceptron... oh, no.. this is... oh... this stuff is really complex
Uve received an email from them?
I did sign up for the program, but nothin so far, i guess the rollout is waity
This was way before from the initial enhanced broadcasting beta before the feature was publicly available.
Wot 🤔
Well they had enhanced broadcasting beta only.
They had 1440p testing before for this user group.
Then stuff went public (without 1440p)
And now they offer a 1440p beta access once again.
That initial group also had/has access to 2160p
Ohh, i see
Ive seen a few doin 2160p.. yeah
2160p at what bitrate tho, 10Mbps?
From what I remember yeah
oof
someone should make an alias domain... blurrylegoblocks.tv that points there. 🙂
.....
It doesnt look bad, just not better than 1080p60 at 8mbps with AVC
On bigger screens, probs get an edge(1440p n 2160p)
we increased the resolution by 300% but the bitrate only 67%
what's the point of this?
I guess it's fine if you play the video on a 1080p display. will be the same stuff as youtube where you select the higher resolution purely for the bitrate
IIRC, HEVC is about 25% more efficient than AVC, but 4k is 4x the real estate of 1080p. You don't need 4x the bitrate to encode it efficiently due to motion compensation, and other factors, but going from 6Mbps to 10Mbps seems insufficient by a longshot if you ask me. It might be ok for people doing video streams of computer programming, sharing their 4k screen or similar mostly-static content, or talking head streams with no flashing colored lights in the background.
I predict for video game streaming it is going to be terrible though. Will believe otherwise when I see it though. 🙂
With YouTube recommending 12Mbps for 1080p60 baseline with H.2.64... 4k60 10Mbps even with HEVC is gonna be a challenge methinks.
I have my encoder for YouTube set to HEVC @ 25Mbps at 1440p60
so they're catering to the bathtub streams
Let's just say the just chatting category which would make sense.
yeah that'd probably be a more inclusive way to say it
Yeah, a lot of just chatting steams may work ok I guess, or art streams that are low motion of someone painting or drawing or things like that.
but yes, that and coding streams would benefit. and if someone were to stream MMO with the game stripped out so it's just the number-filled GUI maybe
But gamers will likely think "oh yeah, 1440p here we come!" and get sued by LEGO for all the lego blocks in their video. 🙂
RIP kappagen
anyone has good msi afterner and rtss simple good customization?
where can i get them? youtube i guess?
Gpu settings are individual if you're looking for overclock/etc. Rtss you mean the overlay setup/how it looks i guess?
yes just to customize how good it looks
afterburner doesn't have a lot of customization. RTSS tho, you can go wild with the overlay editor
Not at real time speeds, at least
if you ask me, 1080p 6Mbps isn't enough in the first place so going to both to HEVC and increasing bitrate is needed
I tried 6Mbps with Av1 encoder and youtube transcoded my video to vp09 . however i felt like i should use 8Mbps atleast minimum for 1080p. 12Mbps looks good :)
depends on what you stream. If I stream some racing game, 12 Mbps will look like hot garbage
Or heavy foliage yeah
there is a demo for an FPS game I played yesterday that has a Streamer mode that removes all the wall textures, and just does smooth shading and such.
its called Bloodthief
lol
I guess you can just set texture quality and foliage to low and that should do it
the game doesnt have any other options for setting texture quality
I meant overall games but this is cool as well
I got an idea now. record some gameplay with the texture on, and some with it off. use CQ and see how the bitrate changes
Yep, need 12Mbps+ for 1080p60 to not suck.
that's an insane difference
at what point is streamer mode worse than slightly wonky encoding
yeah, but when you make the walls shite, you free up data to be used on other details
since you're streaming using CBR
I understand the rationale
but like I said there's a point where the intentional lack of detail surpasses the lack of detail from encoding
valorant game
not the worst game to stream in terms of limited bitrate
racing games love limited bitrate
they love it when they wanna look like garbage
Guess the asphalt is acting like Minecraft grass texture
Sorry, I started to dig into the details/scientific paper, and that's a mistake 😅
Was starting to get overwhelmed
I swear I get this phenomenon way too often in my life. Basically I will have a thought or question and then a few days later i will see someone else talk about it or address it some way
Like 5 or so days ago i was thinking to myself why the system32 folder in windows is called system32 and not system64 since modern windows is 64-bit
Turns out that ThioJoe, a tech channel on youtube, uploaded a video explaining this 3 days ago.
That's correct!
for a fun one, try naming a file NUL or AUX
Interesting! It won't let me. I'm guessing for backwards compatibility as well? i also heard that's the reason drive letters start at C: because A and B are reserved for the "two standard floppy disk drives" that were common on really ancient computers
And probably a looooot of software is hardcoded to look in the C: directory, making it near impossible to change
yup backwards compatibility from DOS
Aren't there also certain names you can't give folders? Or are those the same as files...
The funny thing is, there is so much backwards compatibility, but a few years ago I tried playing old CD windows games that were probably designed for windows 98 or XP, but they didn't work on Windows 10.
there's actually a syswow64 folder too, btw (wow64 being windows on windows 64, and as the name might imply that's the 32bit env to make 32bit applications work on 64bit windows).... what makes it especially funny is that yes, on a 64 bit windows system the 64bit stuff is in system32 and the 32bit stuff is in syswow64
I learned that from the thiojoe video! At first glance it does seem super weird and backwards the way they are named.
does make sense if ya know the background as for why it like that, but yes seeing it at first is confusin 😅
Also works for filenames like LPT1.
Indeed, indeed.
yup yup
pretty unrelated, but I wonder where the ram limits come from of windows 11. Whether it's just a "design decision" or if there's a "real" hardware reason. I understand home being limited to 128GB, and Pro being limited to 2TB, but why isn't the limit for Enterprise edition the actual theoretical 64-bit memory limit?
which is funny to frrench people because it means dumbass
that's cause on dos the device files are global like that (on CP/M too, which is where DOS got it from), rather than in /dev/ specifically like they be on *nix
why? Cause early DOS versions LITERALLY didn't have folders or anythin of those sorts
and that is why you still can't name your folder CON on u2d win11
not having folders is crazy
no that is literally just MS trying to sell higher priced windows versions
and the limit on enterprise& pro for WS isn't even all that high either, but again at that point they wanna sell you a high price win server version
I know, but there doesn't seem to be anything beyond "Windows 11 Enterprise". I totally get why they limit the other editions though. Is it because they have some kind of other service beyond that, which just isn't visible in the table?
2025 is
yeeee ^^
tho dunno whether that's RTM yet
oh okie ya was GA in nov 2024
okie
rtm was in may 2024 already
would be cool to deck out a pc with 2TB of ram
you literally won't run out of it in 2025 with even "normal" heavy use.
ma next desktop sys is gonna be 128gig MINIMUM
think by the time I actually get around to it 256 will be feasible
current is 32, buuuuuttt I offload stuffs to other systems to make that work
BRUH what???
I have 16gb and I feel like I'm swimming in an ocean of ram
Going from 8gb though
16 is what ma steamdeck got
and even then without zram I'd be runnin OOM quite regularly
zram? OOM?
memory compression
OutOfMemory
I also hope to have a 128GB computer in the future, but 64GB is probably more realistic for me in the next couple of years
As someone with 64GB of RAM, it's more than fine
What actually happens if you run out of memory? I feel like I haven't run out of memory in foreeeeveeer. Does the program just halt?
RAM needs are heavily based on what you do, though
got a laptop sittin to the left of me (sometimes it's a laptop, sometimes it's ma tablet), old computer is sittin over in the attic and I offload stuff to that too and such
The system will start to use the "page file" or swap partition. Basically, uses your hard drive as memory.
It HEAVILY throttles performance
The only times I ran out of memory are when searching through very deep trees in coding projects. But either java or python do the handling of figuring out when to stop.
that's lovely to know!
64 will be practical min for next sys ya, but I don't even wanna think about memory soooo 128 it is
and like next sys is years out
soo
I know 16GB is starting to seem low for some users but I still consider it good. As long as you're not doing more than one pretty resource intensive thing at a time.
16GB is too low for me specifically due to playing modded minecraft heavily
decently resource intensive ya cause 16 going to a single task isn't that rare at all no more
tho ya depends on what ya do
My lil mini server box runs 16GB right now and it's struggling
But it's an HP EliteDesk Mini- it only supports up to 32GB anyways
got 24 in ma server box, which is old PC
a ryzen 7 1700 can still do quite a lot for such uses
funny tho that 1700 to 3700x upgrade happened as soon as the 3700x was available for purchase, been on the 3700x as primary since
Right now the server runs a 12GB Modded minecraft server (which regularly hits max and I have to restart once it's too much for GC), a file sharing service (share.ashen.beauty), and a few other miscellaneous docker containers
It's crazy how it scales... 16GB is great for a lot of stuff. Like you can actually store a ton in it. But on some computer science projects I've felt like even 32GB or 64GB wouldn't be enough. Probably 1TB would. It's like there's a kind of barrier where just doubling your ram doesn't mean you're gonna get twice as far. But in a lot of situations you are though
only thing i use that eats ram is chrome, everything else can make do with 8gb or less
based chrome, 1gb per tab 💪
google ads go hard af
I only use Chrome for work, I use Vivaldi otherwise
holy shit, im just on a retailer website and its using 1.3gb for that tab?????
ma x280 got8 gigs, which is quite serviceable on the lin side of things. Couldn't imagine tryin to use a windows sys with 8 gigs of ram these days
theres nothing on there besides like 10 images of gpus i cant afford
that cant be right, seriously
As an ads indutry person, a lot of that is possibly scripts for tracking
yup yup ubo in a browser where it's actually fully functional (ie not chrome) works wonders
def part of what makes ma x280 as comfy to use as it is, in combination with it not runnin win of course
computers
yes, we're talking about computers
was typing a really long message but thought nah fuck it
it reached like 7 lines and I had the realization that probably no one cared.
Mood
you can already get 256gb in consumer pc, but it's slower ram
yes. And I no want /THAT/
I mean if you're gonna go with a ryzen system, getting 4 dimms to work at high speed will require manual tuning
unless you'll go with zen 6 and the new IMC on it will be friendly with 4 dimms, who knows
so best case for you would probably be 2x64 GB if you want at least 128 gigs
replied to in the first channel where you posted
not going for a new system at this moment anyway, it's still years out
by that time we might have AM6/DDR6 then 😄
most likely coming in 2027
If I won't end up on the medusa halo successor or sth like that anyway
for a main system?

What's zen6
cpu architecture
5000 series was zen 3, 7000 was zen 4, 9000 was zen 5
so next gen will be zen 6
It's not out yet right, so you can't really do much with it
no ofc it not out yet
I was talking about the future
current rumors say yes
and it makes sense based on the fact that AMD promised support for AM5 until 2027
zen 6 as last gen on AM5 early '26, X3D down the line and more stuff even later
Until, so if zen6 is released jan 2027 then they can release it on am6 without breaking their promises
zen 7 will defo be on AM6
it's coming next year
amd tends to switch sockets when new ram
I see
so question is if ddr6 will be a thing by the time zen7 comes around
So am6 is expected 2027 - 2028?
it's already a thing
Maybe I'll have money by then???
could very well be that the last year of am5 support will be refreshes of existin chips 🤷♀️
I'm too poor to buy into the newest stuff
so I'll buy into zen 6 and run that for the next billion years
DDR5 will be even cheaper by then
Same plan, intel 4th gen still going strong, it will never quit
currently on am4 with the 3700x, will be for years to come
damn, I'm on a 5900X
I used to have a 3700X
I buy expensive once, then run it for the longest time
they been very affordable on sale
Yeah fair
I didn't buy it brand new at MSRP
it was already with a pretty good discount
I bought it in '21, so it already had like 100+ Eur discount
What I did with my system was buy it with the intel pentium g3258 dual core anniversary, oced that cheap af chip to 4.2ghz
and I sold my 3700X so in reality I had to put in like 300 Eur of my own money
Back in the day ocing to get some value was a nice option
But that hasn't existed in any useful capacity for a while unfortunately
oh btw, since you're running a 4th gen intel cpu, I just got a system from work for free with an 8th gen i3 that I'm gonna use as a NAS 😄
Lol
now you UV to get some nice value
boosting basically made OC'ing mostly useless
Yeah there's gonna be a ton of < 8th gen pcs in the scrap after October, when in reality they'll keep working just fine even without updates , it's not like they'll be immediately hacked or become useless but yeah
I'd like a laptop for very cheap onto which I could slap linux
and use it for browsing or watching YT when I'm away somewhere
And I'm pretty sure you can install win11 onto 2nd-7th gen even if it's not officially supported
there are win 11 editions which don't require TPM/secure boot
don't do those "editions", just create an installer with rufus it can disable those requirements no prob
Yeah, so idk why microsoft is like you might have "issues", what issues
Ofc ofc
tho be aware that release upgrades are unlikely to work
can't disable the bloat that comes with the "cancer" editions
that's how I call the normal home/pro win 11
ofc ya can
Are you using win11 to disable bloat? Wrong os for that, try linux
and at least ya know what's up with it as compared to the ones slipstreamed together by some random guy in his basement
🙃
uhh
display info is wrong, idk wtf is up with that
tho the one actually viable windows that ms still makes are the LTSC releases
Whatever modification I make I do it by hand cos yeah I don't trust Microsoft but I trust random internet guys even less
Win 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, that's what I ran for a while
I tried ltsc win 11 and pro, there was barely any difference in bloat
and I wouldn't dare install normal win 11 on my system
As opposed to win10 where there's a much bigger difference
wrong ltsc
Hm i didn't try the iot one but yeah
how about this empty?
But for me I think I'll stick with win10 for many more years (currently on 7, will downgrade to 10 when steam stops working completely)
I like the new interface of win11 but hate everything else
oh gosh the interface is one of the worst things abt 11
but okie
I no use it
nor 10 for that matter
so MS
could ya please make it worse? I'm sure y'all be cookin!
Yus yus I'm stuck in ma Linux-y ways
Thank the goddess for that
I'm sure you can make adult play thingies that be runnin lin, that way you can literally F Linux if that's what ya want 🤷♀️

Windows could never!
have u debloated or this is how Win 11 LTSC works?
this is literally what you see the first time you load up the desktop
LTSC is meant for business users right?
is it good for general users?gamers?
in my case it's IoT enterprise LTSC so yeah, it's not meant for normal users
but it's the same windows just barebones
and doesn't treat you completely like a 5 year old
ah the 10-year-olds have made it onto the internet again
bored yutes
im not 10 vro
you sure
yes ong
yeah let's see some id
10 is shooting high
no
sub 9
10.5 tops
Apparently can't read either
moving on...
ima say tho, oikawa looks hot if he was girl
@sage quartz only warning here, chill on the shit posting.
tired of microsoft services are far from me i guess
very slow windows store and windows updates
hey is it possible to find somones name with a phone number?
do any of you so happen to know
its my stalker i wanna find out if its someone i know
or who it is so i can file it to the police
I'd imagine the police would be able to work with the phone number on its own

Friends how much is
One plus 13 (256gb) and Iphone 16(256gb) price in your country?
Please convert it to usd in google and tell me
In my region its
Iphone 16 = 877$
One plus 13 = 818$
op13 887€ (1017us)
ip16 922€ (1058us)
both inc 20% VAT
👍🏻
so really they right around the same price
i thought iphones are cheaper in eu,us
uh us prices are prolly cheaper ya, but u no has gotten any replies from US folk yet
i see this ad everywhere ^
<@&715347355565817879>
I’m hoping the next iPhone actually makes me want to buy it
I'm hoping anyone brings back real fingerprint sensors
(the side button ones are trash unfortunately)
tbh the under screen ones work perfectly fine
the side button ones are just too small for me to trust them, tbh
You mean optical or ultrasonic
the latter
I've used both but only tried the ultrasonic ones on xiaomi not Samsung
Idk if the Samsung implementation is better
ma p7a got an optical one and like even that works fine
My fingers are cooked tho, they barely have fingers prints
Optical ones will straight up never work
I was never a fan of the side button. I forget which phone exactly it was, maybe an LG, that I had with side button and it was awful
One of em had a rear button and that was fine
Ultrasonic is like 50/50 and normal is like 75%
the ones built into stuff like the power button are far more prone to failure
that sounds like a you problem
Well it is, but normal fingerprint sensor is way better for me
either way, sensor on me p7a works fine for me so I don't really care
Buy new finger prints. EZ
And only the most expensive ones have ultrasonic
secondhand?
hah. hahahah. hah.
You never have issues with the optical one?
nop
The ultrasonic tech is pretty cool in theory, I've heard it doesn't work well with certain / any? Screen protectors which is not awesome but yeah
Apparently my a54 uses an optical and my s20 uses ultra sonic. Honestly the optical does seem to work a hair better for me
unexpected but interesting
When I was messing with pools daily, the ultra sonic was far more finicky than the optical
Chlorine is an asshole
well it's still a 3 year gap in terms of release, so it kinda does make sense that the newer one can be better
and yup ultrasonics got problems all of their own
depends. Some do better, some do worse. If on a pixel it doesn't really work with the screen protector no more you can recalibrate it and that should fix it right up
other phones rarely let ya do that, tho
the sensor on mine wasn't perfect ootb either, dunno what went on there. BUUUUT I just recalibrated it once and it's been going strong since
one plus 13 256gb ~930 usd
iphone 16 256gb ~1 085 usd
dude, so many characters.... so little meaning
<@&715347355565817879> Scam
<@&715347355565817879> sussy baka
yo
Wait a damn minute. What do you mean smartphones now cost $1000? What happened, is there a worldwide silicon shortage specifically for smartphones now?
nothin more than late stage capitalism in combination with erosion of the midrange
same as is seen with graphics cards and everything else, really
you can still get 300$ ones
but people with more money than sense gonna do things with those money
yes, the 300 bucks ones are the price bracket that used to be the 150 tier
I can understand PCs, in the last 10 years we went from 1080p60 to 1440p120 (those who could afford it, at least), but what did smartphones improve in the last 10 years? Facebook launches 10 ms faster?
it launches slower cause meta devs are useless, but phones are 120hz now too
PCs used to get faster year over year all while goin down in price, actually 😅
but eh whatever, gonna continue being happy with ma p7a as phone for years to come
roundabout 350 is what I paid for that
Laptops are kinda ass these days. Less I/O, battery is hard to replace, no room for a SATA drive.
cuz nvme took over
honestly I prefer the space that used to be taken up by sata to house another battery cell
there's plenty of laptops that can be configured with bigger battery OR sata 2.5"
and honestly? Imma take bigger battery every single time
hell, m.2 NVMe drives are literally cheaper than sata 2.5" ones plenty of times
simply cause
less
you got pcb and stuff that sits on the pcb, but you save yourself the extra connector on there and the housing
and the pcb itself is smaller too
and the housing is 70% empty anyway, just there to house a few threaded holes at most
yup
I got a 120GB SSD from back in the day which is PACKED
but it just ain't like that no more
😅
shame you can't minaturize speaker crossovers the same
those things get bulky
and ya dependin on laptop the IO these days is literally so much more than it used to be
yes less physical ports maybe
but the IO bandwith that ya got?
no comparison
doesn't help you to get stuff in&out when you got a stack of ports if all of them are USB 2.0, a firewire port and yaaa
hah, those days..
ma x220 is usb 2.0 only
the card reader in it is literally faster than it's usb connection
cause the card reader on it is PCIe

yeah, classic that
usb sd card readers were rough vs a built in one
I still use the x220 for that from time to time
cause it got raw access to cards
ie shows up as /dev/mmcblk
rather than /dev/sdx
ya don't need raw access to copy stuff to&from, sure
but when ya wanna figure out what exact card it is
and such?
can't get around it
still kinda weirded out by a full reformat "fixing" this SD card being stuck at 8MB/s writes
would've needed a trim most prolly
SSDs and such all do that on their own whenever the os tells them to
SD cards?
ya
dependin on the card you might even be able to tell it to just dump it's contents
but that can obv only be done via native conn, not usb card readers
so full reformat it is
that is something that's likely to improve with SDexpress
well, when they natively connected that is
😅
cause well SDexpress cards? Those are literally just NVMe SSDs
the only device thus far afaik that folk like have that wants sd express cards is the switch2
maybe there some cameras
but ya
ah ye no right
fullsize sd express has been around for a couple years
but micro sd express? Literally only coming out /NOW/ p much
but ya. I expect for things like the deck2 to have a microsd express slot too
oh nice, SD is on PCIe now too?
SD express is yes
those cards aren't common though because the Switch 2 kinda pulled that format out of the grave, and it only takes micro-SDs
I remember some cameras advertising the CFexpress cards that are on PCIe, that was neat but it's all mostly irrelevant to me since I have no interest in getting a new camera
I love solving problems with computers
CFExpress is basically the same concept but in Compact Flash form factor
aren't some stuff like the RED's just on actual 2.5" ssd's these days?
it's funny how everything is slowly but surely moving over to PCIe
well, no interest in getting a new consumer camera :P
lots of things use 2.5" SSDs yes
the red cards? Those are mSATA drives
maybe there are NVMe ones these days too for their really new cams
but ya
obv sat in their own housing with their own connector and serialised so that the cam only accepts official ones
ofc
maybe that'll change if Nikon actually believes in the idea that was behind releasing service manuals for their cameras and lenses rather than performatively doing that
oh fun fact: panasonic had the P2 cards back in the day. Those were pc cards (often times referred to as PCMCIA, but PCMCIA is the name of the association and not the actual standard) cards housing a raid controller that runs 4 SD cards in raid0
cause SD cards back then simply weren't fast enough for what they were tryin to do
and that whole thing abt folk calling the connector PCMCIA even tho it's not called that reminds me of IDE. IDE stands for integrated drive electronics and has nothing to do with the connector/interface. The connector/interface that folk refer to as IDE is actually called PATA.
Which yes also brings up the whole RJ45 thing. No, your ethernet cable doesn't use RJ45 connectors. RJ45 had an extra key on the side, what's used for ethernet is 8p8c (actual rj45 is an 8p8c connector too, but ya only the one with the extra key on the side is rj45)

heavy rain,thunders,lightning here
I am panicked and woke up suddenly.
any tips on how to avoid these heavy thunder sounds?
Move some place without thunderstorms so you miss them instead
I sleep with a white noise app that allows you to customize the sound. One part of the mix is a bassy sound that helps cover up bass noise like trucks that go by, thunder would be covered by that too.
Hooked a phone up to an old speaker to accomplish it.
"Alexa, tell sleep sounds to play Zen. Alexa, sleep timer three hours.'
Yawn.
Roll over.
Good night.

While the server is always a hotbed for spammers/compromised accounts there's the one that seems to be "new" and solely image based ones.

dawg im sorry bro told me to advertise his channel
There are #rules for this server. Even if you got told to do so, they still apply
obs studio on steam ha?
need to pay for steam right for that?
people can download from official site and use this app so why steam?
isn't it just like $100 initial cost
Still free on Steam
valve takes 30% of what you sell on steam. if OBS is free, how can they take money? It doesn't cost anything to add OBS to steam, or to host it. Valve doesn't even care if you do all your MTX outside of steam and keep everything you sell
that last part is unrelated to OBS, but just making a point
yeah, pretty sure you just have to pay publishing fee, which, IIRC.. is $100?
and then it's on there for good
oh yeah, there is a one time fee for putting it on steam
In order to get fully set up, you will need to pay a $100.00 USD fee for each product you wish to distribute on Steam (the "Steam Direct Fee"). You can pay this fee with any payment method supported by Steam in your region, except methods that use the Steam Wallet.
This fee is not refundable, but will be recoupable in the payment made after your product has at least $1,000.00 USD Adjusted Gross Revenue for Steam Store and in-app purchases.
so they only charge $100 after you make $1000
yeah
if you don't make that 1k by having your game/software be free and MTX free, you never pay that fee
which, it's not making any money
good on valve
oh, free games you don't have to?
if your game is free and you don't make any money from MTX, you never pay that fee
huh...
And besides Steam there's also the M$ store
or you know, just github
Yup
ok friends i am ordering One Plus 13 mobile for 899$
good for you?
I don't see a point in phones that expensive
but I barely use my phone, it's different for everyone
I had a high-end phone once, that was enough
i was happy with the one plus i had some years back, hope it'll treat ya well
I also dont want to spend much but if i spend less money i am losing features like good display(OLED) , good touch response , os and security updates , battery life
whats the best mutlistream chat overlay so i can see chat from youtube, twitch and tiktok at the same time while playing a game. i only have 1 pc screen
god, I hate the scrolling on pages
who thinks this is a good idea
scroll to move something along
Native browser scroll good. Anything that overrides/changes that is just insta yikes
so sliding > scrolling?
you mean Lenis?
yeah, too many product pages that move an animation along when you scroll
surely they know that drives people away
that clearly does not drive people away or it would've been a thing of the past already
It doesn't, because people just shrug and continue scrolling
tbh I don't mind those scrolling animations
what I mind is website that hijack scrolling to make it 'smooth', i.e. that use lenis
Or scroll by notches/elements. Or hijack/disallow mmb click to scroll
Finally i bought One Plus 13 white colour from offline store right now (16gbram/512gb)
They gave black pouch instead of white
Think if the fastest consumer pc build you can do in 2025. Now double the specs, meaning twice the cores, twice the ram, twice the clock speeds etc. What are you doing with this pc? Is it something you can’t already do some of?
Videogames

On a different note I need some advice. I have a few hundreds of gb of random archived stuff that is important to me. Like games, videos, photos and just other stuff as well. And I wanna do backups on different devices. But what is a good way of doing that? Is it a good idea to compress it, and if so what is the best compression method for this?
Right now im running a 7z on basically the whole drive (except ntfs drive files and the drives recycling bin) and im seeing about 25% less space being used so far but its only 5% complete.
Idk if there is anything better to do. I imagine that I will do a backup between every month or every 3 months depending on how much I add to this “archive drive”
I treat it as a drive where I basically dump anything I wanna backup and have it sorted in a somewhat neat way.
Interesting 🤔. @terse helm this Vs Rockville
I got myself a umc204hd with a broken usb port for like a couple bucks years ago and just swapped the port aye, been runnin it ever since
Videos and photos don't really compress well with lossless compression algorithms, some games do but not many these days, so your best bet is save a lot of time and just copy everything to another drive
You're right. The compressoin ratio has since gone up to 94% so there's very little gain for a huuuge amount of time
Grab compactGUI and run on your systen drive, it'll skip non-conpressible. Saved me 14gb on my 120gb boot drive
the downfall has begun
I heard rumors about people seeing ads in their recommended page. Now there is a whatsapp ad.
big sad
At least have a little " (i) " icon that lets you know it's an ad when you click or hover on it
I dont have whatsapp
thank fuck there is a way to turn it off
yet another burried windows setting to remember to switch off when setting up a new computer
to be fair it was easy to find but it shouldn't be there in the first place
would you pay a yearly fee to have a "clean" windows that NEVER shows you ads or tries to feed you stuff you don't need? I think I would... Hopefully this shit isn't on the pro versoin of windows. im on home edition currently btw.
more rumors of next zen being 12 cores per ccd
and up to 24 cores per chip
with 2028 bringing 32 cores
i would love 24 cores
well ya that makes sense, honestly that's not even a rumour no more practically speakin
Next intel chip rumours, 32 efficiency cores, 0 performance cores
Make mobile windows great again
Whatsapp will run smooth
that sounds more like a smaller version of sierra forest
What's next, it'll be arm too!?
naw
AMD has all dense core chips too
it's just
they're actually good
°J°
the only all efficient chip that intel has are the n100 and such
for what they are they're sweet
well its a rumor till amd says so and they havnt really said it just yet outside of the server chips going up in count
the 12 cores is full cores not dense
same with the 16
its just going to be a new socket and cutting edge sized cores
New socket?
yeah for zen 7
Is zen7 12 cores per ccd or zen6?
zen 6
Ngl if zen7 is ddr6 seems tempting but it's probably quite a few years out, dunno if I can hang on that long but maybe....
New socket, already?
yes cause ddr6
oh we're already at the first announced "support till then atleast" year
still a couple years out, but ye
amd on the consumer desktop side of things tends to go for ensurin 1 socket per RAM gen these days
I can't imagine ddr6 before 2028
so like once they doing DDR6 then yeah it's gonna be AM6, but before that it's gonna be AM5
late 2025 early 2026
tho more likely to be early 2026 yah
No way? That's next year??
yes, that's the plan
What feels like ddr5 just came out
and would line up with amd plannin to support am5 till 2027 quite well
have everythin up till&includin zen6 on am5, and then zen7 on am6
that how da math mathin

early 2020 is DDR5
by the time ddr6 will be there DDR5 will have been out for give or take 7 years
😅
ddr4 came out 2014
sooo....
I'm still in 2019
time does indeed pass
I actually got that for free
it's called ubuntu
Not like this matter to me but I'm just curious, it seems amd release new zen version every 2 years, next one is expected 2026 so that would actually make zen 7 in 2028?
somewhere thereabouts yah
could be that zen6 drops this q3/q4 already, who knows
prolly not
but ya
I'd suspect may 2026 earliest
thereabouts
I was gonna to ask if it was linux, haha 😛
yes it is!
Thing is do I wanna buy the new gen of ddr and such immediately, probably not cos 1) quality control issues / bugs that need ironing out and 2) the price will be ridiculous for at least a year judging from ddr5 release
2nd factor probably more important
cuz chips like the 9700x came out back in 2024 so ya
q2/q3 2026 will have been 2y since zen5, give or take
So realistically I'm not upgrading until 2029 which is quite a long time away
yaaa I'll still be chillin with ma 3700x for years to come
coming to think of it the only hardware with ddr5 I got are
me phone&steamdeck
both lpddr5 actually
but ya

everyhing else is ddr3 or 4
most 4
hm not even most
lemme check....
x220, t430 and the smol itx sys we no know what to do with are dd3
elite x2, x280, desktop and homeserv are ddr4
steamdeck&phone are lpddr5
yah no ddr4 wins with 4 devs in active use
I mean more expensive though

well I was in the lucky position to only pay like 5 bucks for it, sooo....
Lol used
what?
I mean you got it used
so? 😅
Nothing
I got a 3770k system once for free
stares at the itx system with the 4570t or whatever it is sittin right next to her
yeeeaaa those things been gettin real cheap
the one here I literally grabbed from the recycling center
dropped off my stuff, and well as I walked out ma bags mebe weren't as empty as they're supposed to have been 🤷♀️
this one was a free pickup, "doesn't boot"
had no storage, just the 16GB Cache SSD
yup, no ssd in this one either
hm, did i even keep that SSD..
the 16 gig one? good question!
@jaunty ridge am blaming you for unplugging it

I can get 16gb for basically nothing, 32gb is outright cheap and 64gb is what I would expect 32gb to cost. These are all dual sticks from well known vendors with good respective speeds. Crazy. Well it was 5+ years ago I last looked at this to be fair.
If I had money to build a new pc it would definetely get 64gb ram. The prices for 128gb are not outragous either.
It only really gets ridiculous at 256gb.
640gb is even super cheap... Ah yes, the good old typo
What's that in gbp or dollhairs
There's some extra tax in my country so it's likely more expensive than if you bought in many other places.
Also that's ddr4 so it's expected to be cheaper
Ddr5 isn't too cheap here from what I'm seeing, it's kinda the same price as ram typically has been for years
around 1600kr for ddr5 2x 32gb at 6000MT
with prices up to 2000kr depending on vendor and such.
Is that a lot?
It's between $250 and $310
Depends on your budget I guess but I think your prices are a bit cheaper than uk (probably as expected lol)
I serously expected the lower end to be $400
You expected 64 gigs to be 400?
Yup. I haven't looked at computer part prices in a long time. 😅
Last time around was when a GTX1080ti was about the best you could buy with money
Heh yeah makes sense, I just get bored sometimes and look up what's available that I can't afford
Good times, never had a 1080ti but that card was an absolute beast and still is amazing for eSports type titles
If I had money to spend on a modern pc build I'd definetely get DDR5 64gb kit
Way ahead of it's time, nvidia crushed it with that card
Yup! I'm still enjoying my GTX 1070. I imagine it struggles with modern AAA games but I don't even dare try. 😅 Maybe I'm just thinking behind but I still see the GTX1080ti as a beast
I wonder what that is comparable to with modern GPU's, the GTX1080ti
Been looking at it a lot recently and really you need a 3060 ti minimum
I'd imagine a 5060 or something, but I heard nvidia was lacking lately.
Thing is it didn't have rtx, it was just pure pixel pushing horsepower
And how much is it?
This is from F1 22, and I really don't think it has frame gen. I could be wrong though
Around $570 from my local retailer
5060 TI in there is clearly hitting the cpu floor, it would push way more frames if the cpu could handle it
And I think 1080ti would still wipe the floor with 5060 for older dx9 games like tf2 and such
the RTX5060ti
I think the same.... I'm going to see if I can find a comparison
Doubt, nobody compares ancient games but I might be wrong
But hey, TF2 is easy to run though!
I can run it very smoothly on intergrated laptop graphics. 😄
That's fair. My cutoff point for fps seems to be around 120-150 for me.
But I used to say 60fps was all I ever needed. Maybe in the future I like looking at 1000fps
Do whey write "64" as "640" in Swedish, or is that a typo?
That's a typo!
Ahaha golden offer
Buy it and complain they didn't send you the other 500gb
The website had the option to filter by size, I chose the highest capacity expecting a $15,000 price tag... but it was jsut a typo
And demand it immediately
I mean i know they run good deals there, but still 😂
They have a single 512gb option for around $32k
Some server equipment stuff I'm guessing. Lenovo Intel Optane is the name
Yeah
The highest on a single stick I see is 64GG
Maybe i should finally upgrade to 64, but also my only reason would be to delay the inevitable windows memory leak sooo.. nah
I'm thinking of using linux. Soon I'll get a PC free of charge but since I'm a broke student I'm not sure I have money for a windows license....
Just scared I can't figure out how to do what I want and that I'll waste too much time not being able to solve it
@modern yoke Describe what you want to do with it, then.
I'll occasionally want to play an anti cheat game or two with the boys but I've heard this is pretty much impossible. Apart from that I wanna play games and create content, write software.
On the content creation side I heard it's difficult to get proprietary codecs and drivers to work properly. Not sure if that is going to be a big problem.
the thing about not being able to play anti cheat games is not a big problem for me.
A lot of this info is outdated at this point, Linux has come a long way. But, if you want something jailed with heavy anticheats, you're better off installing Windows and dealing with the watermark.. or not.
I tried using a variety of linux on an old and now dead laptop. The touchpad driver sucked on pretty much all distros apart from arch, but that won't be a problem on desktop, thankfully.
I would install something sufficiendly mainstream like ubuntu (but I also wouldn't since I subjectively dislike gnome 3 and don't expect you to figure out how to install something other than gnome on your own without prior experience or external aid).
If you installed arch on your own, you probably know enough to decide on your own?
Picking a distro seems difficult. I don't want something that only likes software coming from a store and which is constantly holding my hand, but I also don't want something that can break the whole system if I type a prompt the wrong way
heh, I followed a video guide for installing arch.
Ah yes, the classic
What confused me a lot was the different packaging for software. I might get this entirely wrong but some only seemed to like debian, flatpack or other types of packages. But I thought that one piece of software works with all kinds of linux, as long as linux is supported? Or am I entirely wrong?
I think it's dumb. When I started learning Linux, I found many distros use their own packaging formats - rpm, deb, source code (for gentoo), some other unique format for slackware. Now it's the same thing but worse: everything previously used is still in use, but some software is additionally distributed as flatpak, or the other thing, and some specific distributions have their own specific issues.
I realised that I will need a lot of tutorials on how to do simple tasks. Like even just deleting apps, or running the windows equivalent of an .exe file.
After having used Windows, you now have to re-learn things you already know how to do on Windows, but this isn't the fault of Linux.
Not talking about windows apps specifically. But you know how on windows you can always just double click an exe file to run whatever program is contained. Is there a similar thing on windows?
Of course it's not. It's just a different system. 😛
think different.
I hope that most buttons will perform the same actions, or that it can at least be changed. Like how windows+L locks the pc, or how middle button opens a link in a new tab. All that stuff.
Oh, about buttons. On Windows, the order of buttons is OK, Cancel, Apply. On Linux, it's OK, Apply, Cancel. Who thought it was a good idea?
Exactly. I wondered if there was a universal "thing" (like .exe for windows, or .msi to install programs) that just works and lets any kind of program run on linux.
aaaa
Oh no and it's even different!!!
I heard good stuff about linux mint. But when I tried it on my older laptop I got some awful screen tearing when using 125% scaling. That sadly scared me away from mint. I did not get this issue with the KDE desktop environment on arch. But arch was scary for many other reasons.
Most specific issues can be addressed, but it takes effort. And knowing where to ask.
Chiyo what distro are you using, and can you recommend it?
I installed arch with external aid, mainly as a troubleshooting experience, to see if I can get it into working condition and receive help with issues. It was .. mostly okay, I bricked my Windows boot loader, and I couldn't set up unattended remote control (it works but the initial sign-in must be done manually).
I wonder if there is something like a completely "clean" linux (no distro) but you just add any kind of software you need and only the absolute essentials are included. But I think arch is pretty much that already.
It would take you several months to get there, and the end result would probably be worse than arch.
Oof. That boot loader brick also happened to me one time.
I realized that Windows doesn't like to play nice with Linux alongside it.
I hear people say that you can just dualboot, but nowadays Windows takes up nearly all of the boot partition and installing anything alongside it often gives me the error that there is not enough space on the boot partition. Also just switching secure boot on/off and doing another reboot is annoying
Nah, many modern linux distros come with a graphical installer wizard that'll find your Windows install and configure grub2 to boot it correctly. But if you're installing arch, you're on your own if you mess up following the manual.
Since I won't have any Windows to begin with on my new (but old) pc I'll try maining some kind of Linux distro.
For at least a month or however long I can last without bricking it, or realizing that there are certain things that I simply can't do.
I think ubuntu would still be the easiest to get help with, mainly due to how popular it is.
With the awful implementation of my touchpad driver being non-existent I'm much more inclined to try that.
ubuntu good imo
getting help for ubuntu is easiest and i liked using ubuntu server for that reason
Is it possible to install all software on github and such places directly from source, or do I have to use a package manager?
Well, software that is supported to run on distros such as ubuntu
I took a long quiz only to reach this place... Damn.... :(
"This website is a joke"
Open source software can be compiled from source, most projects have compilation instructions. (I tried to compile ahoviewer and failed, however.)
I think I would feel comfortable with Ubuntu and other popular distros because of how popular they are
I don't wanna choose a distro that isn't so popular and maybe behind the scenes they are slowly getting ready to close down development and such
I completed another quiz. Of course I don't know if it is biased or not. I feel like there is a lot of strong opinions about what distros are good or bad, from an outside perspective. But "Debian" is what fit me the most according to this test
it's an 8 year difference 😅
you know the funny part, they sold a 5060 ti 8gb variant, 1080 ti has 11gb
that is crazy!!!
Nah fuck it ill go with ubuntu. it's so mainstream and probably user friendly that I will not face any problems I won't be able to solve
back in the day 8 years meant like literally double performance for the same money
I wouldn't say "way more"
it is slightly cpu bottlenecked
but things have slowed down a lot since then, naturally perhaps
I heard it is more difficult to fit more transistors together, and also more difficult to manage their power draw
oh, I was looking at the FPS part, not average
it's not the exact same frame
uh.. it was more than that

elden ring has anti cheat?

it isn't
every souls-like has been multiplayer at least since demon's souls
Anyone else having statcounter issues? it's been like this for me for like at least 2 weeks at this point
buntu 24.04
Damn, I really didn't know it was multiplayer. I never played it, but just assumed it was single player. 😅
it's kind of a special way of multiplayer, basically you can invite other players into your instance to either help you or fuck you up
and the multi isn't required for anything
Damn Linux desktop is only at 4%... Huge L :(
huh?
I remember seeing it being higher before. Global stat counter
Meanwhile windows is on a slow and steady decline
I wonder where any of this data even comes from. Is it legit? I constantly see people use it a reference to check how the market share between operating systems and browsers is.
Oh, Linux market share is actually on an upwards trend. Just very very slow.
Even though I like using Windows for the most part I wished we lived in a world where a free operating system was king.
for servers linux is top
windows too unreliable for anything that needs rock solid stability imo
i bet even the server vesions suck hard and not to mention the microsoft tax

but it's not really stable at stock so I'm kinda debating a jump to a 5700X3D and rocking that until AM6
@stark dune what about this
what about what?
I don't do simulations
what spec..
what are you asking here exactly? what I have now or what I wanna get?
I played around with LLM's using LM Studio
i use ollama
ofc I only ran models that fit into my VRAM buffer because getting 3 tok/s drives me mad
I have a 7800XT btw
the 9700xt without this update gets some good numbers
I'd expect it to
with the update i can see it matching a 5080
sounds about right
in some stuff
i said what specification of ram rom u need?
once you optimize amd gpus its not really that far off of nvidia
i think you also get this update too
for AM5, DDR5 RAM is required
me being on AM4, I have DDR4
oh
cost ofit?
decent mobo is like $150. I'd probably go for 64 GB of RAM so that's another $200 and ofc you pay for the CPU
they just delayed all of their cpus again
now the cpu can be anything from $150 to $800 depending on what you buy
u have money or not?
we're all broke
who has money unless they have nvidia stonk?
Mmmmm new golf kicks
also regarding nvidia stonk
how i can hlp
intel always looks hot, if you catch my meaning
looks like you stepped in a watermelon lol. but nice
also china is just 2 years away from making ai chips that are good enough for most token related tasks
don't think I ever saw golf soles before.
Are those small teeth, to grip on the lawn but not damage it
uhh, you can't
Yup yup. Back in the day they used to be metal
Penwywern do you play rimworld?
i can uhhhh
last 12 months required some unplanned expenses so I'm currently in the money saving timeline
no PC upgrades for now
my current system is good enough
its very good to save but spend on necessary
noice
for what purposes u use pc?
mostly gaming. sometimes 3D modelling for 3D printing, sometimes for video encoding
r u video editor
which game ?pubg ?
nope. I just record when I play and if something interesting happens, I might cut clips for discord so I reencode to HEVC for embeds
i havnt tried av1 on my gpu
oooo understand
