It's not so much windows enabling it, but the video card/driver. Basically using DSR (I think) to show one resolution to the OS while outputting a different resolution.

I do know enabling DSR resolutions in Nvidia Control Panel can influence what resolutions show as options in Windows' Settings, for example. Apologies that I'm not sure if that's precisely relevant to this topic. But as an anecdote. And I agree the above screenshots/clips by themselves don't conclusively rule out GPU driver settings being involved.

If you're "duplicating" content onto multiple displays, IMO it implies there is one true content resolution... And the hardware of each display naturally has a fixed, unchanging number of vertical and horizontal pixels (one true hardware/display resolution per monitor). So, what Chiyo showed and I reproduced on my setup, seems like the only possible way to do it, right??
I have difficulty contemplating what more "resolutions" are possible to add into the mix beyond what Chiyo's clip shows. I could replicate that result using Windows' Settings app (Windows 10), or Nvidia Control Panel -- both gave equivalent results and seemed interoperable to set it in one app and then tweak it in the other. Nvidia Control Panel isn't offering anything to me that Windows' Settings app doesn't also offer.
I suppose Windows could theoretically offer you two virtual desktops, one showing per monitor, where all apps on one virtual desktop are shown on the other and vice-versa, but one virtual desktop has more space (likely to be wasted if everything fits on the "smaller" screen), and the other virtual desktop has less space (likely to have apps hanging off past the edges if the "larger" screen is used to full effect)... Taskbar and desktop background could be properly/individually sized per-virtual-desktop / per-monitor. etc. Two properly different resolution desktops with mirrored apps, basically. But it's stretching my notion of the word "duplicate" and I have never heard of such a thing in the wild.

Don't overthink it, Windows downscales the output for the lower-resolution display. I forgot if it adds black bars if aspect raios don't match, but it probably does.

It's generally accepted that the current line of shield things were basically a way for nvidia to sell more of the chip they designed for the switch, and there have been rumors that they'd be updating it after the switch 2 was released, since they'd have a new chip to toss into one.
They're still actively supporting the existing one, so they apparently haven't abandonned the idea completely.

for ring fit (and a number of other Switch games that rely on either joy-con features or shape) you will need to use Switch 1 joy-con however
that said if all you do is play ring fit, there's no point to the upgrade

If number didn't have to go up, I think it'd be possible to prioritize low/no inflation. They just want regular folks to feel that having cash is burning a hole in their pocket (losing purchasing power) to incentivize investment/buying. But that's a pretty arbitrary thing to optimize for, and I think the dogmatic "business number must go up" in economics is toxic to society.

My favorite thing about the switch 2 is how buying some 'physical' games gets you a 'key card' which is basically just... insert this into your switch and it will let you download the game (to local storage, not the key card), kinda like it was just a redemption code ... except you have to inser the key card to be able to play the game. So it's just like buying the game digitally, but less convenient.

Now IIRC, GTA5 came out in 2013, but released on PC in 2014, and I think the GTA5 freebie on Epic was in 2019 or 2020, so that would be like 6-7 years after original release. GTA6 is on target for a 2026 release IIRC, so I reckon we'll get a free copy of it from Epic games say... in 2033. If it shows up on GOG.com before then I might buy a copy though.
Until then I'll just have to find a way to amuse myself with one of the ...

So I just say that for every game now, because it is pretty funny on the rando games that actually get released for free that align with the conversations within a week or so.
That happened with Tomb Raider series a a few years ago. I had mentioned I owned the whole franchise except the latter games that had Denuvo DRM, and that I wouldn't buy them until they were released on GOG or Epic gave them away for free. Someone railed on me at the insane idea of Epic giving them away for free, and then a week later Epic gave away Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider 3-pack. I died laughing.

"Mobile data" uses a different ISP, or at least a different internet connection, not the same as wifi. So yes, call your ISP about this, say you can't visit any websites because of DNS settings being incorrect. Or you can correct this yourself by switching DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google).

May not be, but the point that I was trying to make is that if you are using Firefox to test things and do not know if it is using DNS over https, you might think you are testing your Windows configured DNS from your ISP or local caching nameserver but it might not be using that at all.

It does sound like some other problem, I agree. But there's no need to guess about it as you can just look in Firefox settings under the DNS configuration and know with certainty what it is using..

Also, if your ISPs DNS is not working and Firefox is not using it anyway, and is using DNS over HTTPS, it would bypass that and can act as a test if the other DNS is working just fine even if the ISP's DNS is down.

I miss Windows 2000. Windows NT stability with all the at-the-time necessary driver support for gaming and none server applications. I would leave that system running for weeks on end, something that only my Linux systems could do previously.
Win 7 was pretty good. 10 has been okay. But if we had to go back, 2K was a rock for me

10/11 is honestly pretty stable. usually things that crash it are 3rd party drivers. I tend to keep mine up for a couple of months at a time with no issues.
