I really dislike glare (or the eye strain from it, really), and don't mind black levels rising in a bright room as a price to pay for it.

But it sounds like there are ways to get low direct reflections and keep contrast high in bright rooms, with some filter layers in the monitor, or something?

More random stuff for premium monitors to throw in and hope people are willing to pay for. Will probably become standard once manufacturers know what people prefer, if there's a consensus preference amongst consumers... I guess.

and the G4 is glossy, but it has like 30 billion lenses inside the display, which I guess reflect light back onto the panel?

there's been a whole mess with this in street lighting. the warmer white LEDs used to be noticeably less efficient so weren't produced in the same quantities as the cold white ones. then everyone realized the warm white LEDs are just better for street lighting for a multitude of reasons, the phosphor coatings got better and their efficiency improved, so there was an excess of cool white street lighting LEDs that companies wanted to dump stock of

OBS will not be developed for ChromeOS. The operating system has too many limits in place that prevent OBS from being able to do what it needs to do, and more often than not, Chromebook hardware is too weak to render and encode live video. The Linux Beta for ChromeOS does not change this.

png vs. webp won't make a lick of difference after the files are loaded, because either way the uncompressed images are loaded into VRAM and take exactly the same VRAM + processing power

Reminds me of years ago pointing out how some web pages have far too many images on them that waste way too many resources, such as huge background images. Pointed out one website and someone responded that their image was only a 40kB jpeg.

I had to give the same lesson to them, that compression of file formats is to preserve the amount of disk space they take up, and the amount of network bandwidth that it takes to transfer them over the network, which can also have an effect on how fast a web page loads. So for example, using JPG instead of PNG will make a web page load faster. But it does not make the images take up less system RAM or VRAM once decompressed.

So some websites use hundreds of megabytes of RAM/VRAM for all their images and rich media, but people don't see that because they only look at highly compressed on disk file sizes.

until a few months ago. I finally found one that I was convinced would be quiet due to a lot of reviews and good mic tests of various keyboards. Decided to spring for it finally, and bought a Steel Series Apex Pro gen 3, and it is the quietest keyboard I've ever used other than membrane keyboards on laptops. Best keyboard I've ever used, it's great, although it did put a dent in the wallet.

Then a year later he complained that he wished he got the one with the numeric keypad.

Alice Layout? There was a keyboard that was literally called the alice that had it's own funky layout, and the layout of the q8 is inspired by it (ie it's an Alice-esque board)

QMK is QuantumMechanicalKeyboard, the open source firmware running on boards like the q8. VIA is a graphical configuration utility to run on your PC that can configure a board runnin QMK (well runnin QMK with via support enabled), same thing with VIAL (though vial has some funky features that via doesn't have, also there's some stuff that via has by now that vial doesn't yet have)

Via is pretty cool

it gives you a web-based way to map your keyboard's keys, whereas classic QMK has you compile the firmware and then flash it

so for each key I can tell it what it does

yup yup both via and vial are available both as normal desktop programs and via webusb on their respective websites (so that it works on chromebooks too, cause yup folk runnin chromebooks that still want a nice keyboard exist)

at least in comparison to python. I'm redoing a project I did less than half a year ago in python, but this time in java to get more used to the language. I've not yet written it very optimal or in a state that's close to being finished, but it handles extreme amounts of computation and data much better than python.

Something that took like 10 minutes and 20gb to compute in python can be done in a few seconds with just 4gb in java

Actually I'd be very interested in learning all that. But my project has a huge bottleneck that I have yet to solve. Basically in the beginning there's a huge and slow O(2^n) task. You're right. I found it "Intel Ice Lake GT1" is its name apparently and neither techpowerup or gpu-z app list any dedicated memory. I guess its just my faulty memory though. I thought it would make sense as a kind of "cache" memory similar to cpus. But no, it's all system memory.
