Do I have bad taste, or is the borderlands movie.. okay? Everyone says it's the worst thing in the history of worst things, but I find it palatable. The thing about ARM vs. Qualcomm is that the company Qualcomm bought agreed to the terms. The reason consumer protection laws exist is because an individual consumer basically has no power to negotiate the terms of anything with a large company, so you need protection laws to help remedy that power imbalance. When you have two large (or at least, not small) companies negotiating with each other, they both have similar amounts of power, so if one of them wants to agree to "if we get bought, the license doesn't transfer" in exchange for, say, getting a better deal, that's completely legit.

We're not talking about someone going to the ARM website and clicking "buy license", we're talking about a negotiated contract that explicitly details "company A will do X, company B will do Y" and X and Y can be pretty much whatever those companies agree on.

(The only question in my mind is: did the contract explicitly say that if that company got aquired, licensing rights were terminated? Because normally when one company buys another, it inherits all the rights and obligations of the company it acquired. So if the contract didn't explicitly state that the license terminates on getting acquired, that's a much different discussion... but I'm going to assume that the companies involved have competent lawyers.)

Hi, i have an issue where if i have my game open, then i click off the game screen (like i click on my other monitor) then my game window minimizes and it kind of like glitches and stuff
for some reason if i open my game then its like the apps on the desktop all get rearanged

I'm not fond of the asymmetric chiplets in the R9s for X3D. Only way I'm interested in them is if they are dual-X3D, and since AMD apparently has reduced the performance descrepancy between base and X3D chip configurations, I see no reason to not make them dual-X3D now and eliminate the whole core parking/Xbox game bar nonsense.

I was going to build a 9950X or 9950X3D, but Zen 5's overpriced lameness killed the plan for that pending X3D's reception and reconsideration. I'm all "wait and see" now, not expecting anything impressive, but who knows.

There are rumours they could release Zen 6 by the end of 2025, which I personally doubt, but if they did it's not that much longer to wait, maybe a year. Think I'd rather do that.

I keep an Amazon box to toss "clean" recycling paper into during the day and each evening I dump it into a plastic bin in the garage then each weekend I take it to the "convience center". Wife and I only generate about 2 bags of trash a week and it's not worth $80 every 3 months since they don't pick up recycling as we are a mile outside the city limits.

So - weekly trip to drop off two bags of trash and the paper and glass recycling.

We have pretty good Amazon, USPS, UPS and FedEx drivers. They bring stuff up on to the porch and most time put it right outside the door. Some even wave to the cameras. On hot days I'll put a cooler outside with bottles of water and ice and even a sealed container with snacks and treats. 🙂

I'm happy with my OTS i7-11700F, 32GB RAM and an A4000 GPU. Seems to do just fine. If I need to drop a bit on the video settings that's ok too since I'm just using 1980x1200 monitors and grew up playing on an Atari 2600
