I get messages sometimes from the profiles that pretend to be someone else. I will often message the real person on Twitch if it's allowed and tell them, in addition to reporting to Discord.

Saddly one person contacted me through your discord, asked for help, we then agreed to work on a project in OBS, I didn't complete the work because they couldn't pay me yet so I agreed to wait until they could unlock the funds, then they blocked me, and I'm afraid they might use the beginning of my work or even use AI to finish it. It was specifically a pngtuber in the work, I helped them set up their OBS and pngtuber, helped with their mic setup in OBS, and helped they sent me how it looked in their OBS and all.
Went through trial and errors.
So this person could come, and with the help and allowing of this server, contact more peoples to "ask for help in OBS" and scam peoples like me who are disabled and at risk of being taken advantage of.
To be honest I really wanted to help a beginning streamer learn more about OBS. That's the specific reason why I accepted to help, because it was something I had a bit of knowledge on : OBS, it's settings, it's collaborative work with other softwares (here for pngtubers), etc.
I wish I didn't had to explain all of this in public but yeah.
I just hope they won't use your server to go scam other peoples. I can't report them anywhere so literally I have zero way of stopping them from contacting other peoples. This is why I went on OBS and Twitch discord to ask moderators if they would accept to restrict their access to the server. Sorry if that was unclear. I hope it's easy to understand me, I'm very sorry if it's not, I'm bad at communication.

Big company like this with so many users will absolutely get attacked by spammers and scammers for sure once they get big enough, and we all know that happened many years ago. The question is, how to go about dealing with the problem. Well, they've got a huge amount of data coming in, including message data and data access patterns. They can write software to analyze the data access and usage patterns of users both on the server side and client side. We can turn the client side telemetry data off but they can still look at data usage patterns for how we use the software from their end. Ok, so someone gets reported for spamming/scamming and they make a note of it each time. At a certain point, they point data analysis software, machine learning etc. at all of the data of the usage patterns of all users, and then of accounts that have been reported of spamming/scamming or other bad behaviour and have been flagged in their system as such.
Now they have data patterns that are suggestive of possible behaviours.
So if they notice patterns that are often associated with spammers or scammers, even if it is not exactly that, their software may raise the alarm bells one notch and require a captcha or something like that just to be sure, and no doubt that helps to train the data to be more accurate in the future.
This is all speculative of course, I don't work for Discord. But if I ran a multi-billion dollar company that has millions of users I would absolutely be monitoring data access patterns to try to detect possible misuse of my systems like this using machine learning as it would improve the quality of the system, reduce manual human overhead, improve the end user experience, and help reduce violations of terms of service and/or illegal activities etc.
Downside is sometimes such software can make false positives or false assumptions and we have to jump through some hoops to prove who we are or whatever.

I have multiple user accounts on my Windows machine, and if I log out of my main account and switch users to another account, oh look, Discord isn't installed. Why? Because they don't install it system wide in Program Files like any sensible software would by default, they install it in per-user AppDefault directory buried, so it is not available to all users. So you have to install it into every single user account manually. But it only shows up in the installed apps in Windows once. What a mess.

So, I install it into the 2nd account, and go to log in and it doesn't want me to just do a captcha, no, it wants me to go buy a mobile phone to prove who I am, even though I've never owned a mobile phone or used one to authenticate with Discord before.
But somehow if I go buy a mobile phone and a full blown monthly cell phone plan (because pay as you go wont work), then I can somehow prove who I am even if they never saw the phone numbere before. Makes total sense.
So I can't use Discord from 2 accounts on the same computer, whether it is the same Discord account or 2 different ones.
But it will let me log into a single Discord program to 2 different accounts no problem. Wut.

i cannot get Streaming Presence to work on Discord again for my life.
i have turned my status to Available (edit: currently its yellow Idle but even green Available didnt work), enabled Streamer Mode, disconnected and reconnected my account (edit: a combo of everything), and nothing works.
i have even unsynced my emotes from my server and resynced them successfully before Stream Presence has worked again.
is my only solution to contact Discord? if so, how do i do so?

Any time I find a channel that is repurposing content from other channels and possibly adding music or something to it, where it appears that the original channel probably doesn't know, I report them to YT and the original creator if they have contact info. Videos are usually taken down within a week, however I've never seen one of the channels actually taken down.

Thanks, it was intimidating, because of the number of instruments, but it is a short song and I did some mental math and realized that it wouldn't actually be much more difficult than some metal songs I've done complete band transcriptions of, like Cirice by Ghost, which is layered pretty thick. Now that I got through that one I think I have the bug. LOL

sorry, that doesn't really make any sense. an editor doesn't require playing/pausing. if you made different parts of a song in different DAWs you would export the audio from 2 of them, import those to the third, and export that in its entirety.

even if nobody really cares, im reporting my findings on the Stream Presence issue i had been having because i asked for help:
im pretty certain the reason the purple icon wasnt showing up was because i stream without a game as a category on my alt account. the moment i changed to "Maintenance" as a category it worked.
after testing, Do Not Disturb had nothing to do with it, but Streamer Mode must be enabled, to the point where the purple icon will not show up until you enable Streamer Mode, in which it does instantly.
hope this information helps to clarify things even if its not that related to OBS.

Area code becoming mandatory was annoying in theory, having to dial extra digits... but in practice at least in 2024, it's rarely necessary for many people such as myself. I have every number I might want or need to call in the phone's phonebook, so it is just a matter of pressing a few buttons to get it from there. On super rare occasions I have to call a business or whatever for the first time, then I need to dial it manually but that is like a few times a year, not daily. And honestly, I almost never even make outbound calls anymore as everyone I talk to is either on Discord or Facebook and we use that to have wireless headset and higher quality audio and convenience compared to the phone. I dunno about you guys, but owning an actual telephone is just a monthly fee I pay in order to keep scammers around the world from getting too lonely.

Well, it's possible to train AI voices now, and have it use it, depending on which AI you're using. I know character.ai supports it for example. Just need to upload audio samples and it will clone the voice.
But it doesn't have the ability to autonomously dial a phone number and talk into a phone. 🙂
