Image is from Stellaris, which is partially what this idea is based on.

Do you feel like the scientist system is both arbitrary and pretty underwhelming? Do you want more impactful magement gameplay beyond "this costs me more time and money?" Well then, allow me to suggest we overhaul Division leaders instead.

Instead or in addition to simply recruiting, upgrading and demoting your scientists, imagine having an entire tier of Park management roles you must hire and fill. Each department head having different traits, both negative and positive, and different priorities which may impact gameplay and performance. A change like this would give players a reason to care anout their employees, and steer the park divisions in different directions. Drawing from JWE1, Lambert had a huge focus on "dinosaur fights" despite the obvious ethical problems this had. You could get a leader that feels this way, and thus causes your security ratings to suffer. For Conservation or Biology, you could hire someone whos entire emphasis is on Baby-rearing rather than paleo diets or paleo accuracy. And so on. In the comments, I will show some more pictures from "Stellaris" and how they could be similarly replicated.

Management Rework: Division & Staff leaders

#

In Stellaris, you start out with some essential positions to fill. Over time, you can expand this for new divisions and department heads.

#

There are many ways for a Park management game to do something similar

Sarif your hold too much power for ts to be a simple suggestion your john frontier ts a order now

Here is an example of a 'negative' trait, which can be gained or lost depending on gameplay in Stellaris.

#

They also include one called 'Arrested Development' which basically stops a leader from gaining any more XP

itll be so sad when i have to execute my favourite jwe3 scientist because they earned the loser trait

yeah, it would be fun to actually have to make trickyd ecisions and decide when you have to let an employee go

soft tinsel
#

Wait so you mean whoever is the leader has an impact on parts of parks welfare and employees?

tacit garnet
#

I think it would also really make espionage better (or worse depending on if you like it lol)

tacit garnet
#

In Stellaris you can have leaders that cripple your economy just because they develop bad traits or are simply just bad rolls

I wish I put this in the OG Post

clueless my Biology Division head promoting woke gender ideology on my dinosaurs

soft tinsel
#

Oh i don’t mean it like that i just thought as a funny haha example question

tacit garnet
#

Okay hypothetically sure but more likely it would just cause a loss of cohesion

#

So like

#

ingame this could be represented as a misuse of administrative funds (so money inflation) and research loss (XP loss)

#

And your division in general is just unhappy cos their boss is a racist

soft tinsel
#

This is actually pretty smart

#

I might make some suggestions on the guest stuff

tacit garnet
#

Go for it

#

Now imagine for a moment that same (racist) negative modifier leader ALSO has something insanely useful for a trait

#

Such as maybe increased ticket sales or marketing

#

You basically have to weigh the pros and cons

#

Actually

#

Great example

#

that leader would make hiring scientists or employees for that division harder

I couldn’t find a gif 💔

This could also be applied to the Maintenance that we now have coming in-game too

#

Here's a trait idea: Germaphobe

#

So cleaning quality is increased but cohesion, budget and happiness of staff is worse

soft tinsel
#

What if certain negative traits from the management can make the other scientists more likely to get disgruntled if they are the opposite to their traits

tacit garnet
#

Cos a boss obsessed with cleanliness would be annoying to work under

tacit garnet
#

thepain Great justificiation for hiring an HR department leader

#

The best part is I dont even think this would over-complicate gameplay

What are you bringing attention to here

soft tinsel
#

This feels like it has a little something to do with your thing

#

Certain traits would favor security or conservation or entertainment

tacit garnet
#

Sadly this looks like they're simply bringing more of the same reputation system from JWE1 back

#

New animals and tech will be locked behind reputation, and then you probably still have to research it if I would guess

#

My suggestion may never happen because it would be a fundamental gameplay loop change but I still believe it's possible. Stellaris added this system into their game via dlc literally 5 years after release.

Rise from the dead 🙏

#

Been playing Stellaris a lot again and I still argue this would really flesh out and expand upon management beyond money
