its the keyboard thing that i dread the most, a old computer model i made was hetic to texture when i model their keyboard
I am sure there is some niche typewriter out there that has a more hidden keyboard
but I can tell you can get quite a bit of optimization on those keyboards
and they're not that bad to make because modern keyboards are laid out exactly like old vintage typewriters
that's why all the keys are offset weirdly, because back then the rods would end up evenly spaced
so if you need a reference you can just look at your own keyboard
the rods can be just a single plane with no thickness and doublesided, you would very rarely look at it straight ahead so it'll suffice for most shots
hell you can even translate the UV map info for all the similar rods to save on UV resolution as they'll be obscured by the keys anyway

honestly i'm quite curious about this, whats your texturing workflow for something like this?
uhh its quite messy LOL
the entire mesh is sorta split apart, not only to add some seperation for the parts to be rotating but also to sorta ensure the textures retain a relatively high quality
trying to texture it individually takes almost more than a hour-
unfortunately i cant really put a collection of meshes in adobe, its only 1 at the time as far i remmeber
so how'd you do the nice triangle grid thing
iirc you can if you use .obj object groups and make everything a seprate material
yeeah though if i were to do that, the uv unwrap islands would be alot smaller and result in a lower quality pbr since roblox has a limit for 1k images
but i do know how to make different uv use diff materials on the same mesh
that is actually a pattern in painter, a bit modified but its one of those many alpha maps they have
was gonna do one on my own but granted i am NOT going to spend so long trying to do that π
in this example i do this, each material has its own 1024x1024 texture, which are exported separately
ohhh, wait i ment something else lol
trying to retain the HD textures at more complex meshes, having to seperate them so when i UV unwrap them, their islands takes more space, which makes the texture more HD (since if i kept them all as a single mesh, their islands would be so small it look like a PS1 graphics)
i do know how to use vertex groups from blender to allow different sides of UV to be under different material groups

though the more tricky part is trying to get the fan blurring decal
there isnt one in the toolbox so i made one myself with the exact fan model i made in blender, just blurred it with some radial blur
and made it transparent with some other plugins
so i suppose that is really the only tricky part
it would be so cool if eventually you made a doc showing off some useful tricks you use
i mean im probably intending to at some point
tho thats up to me if im not lazy to make one (and the decision to my devs if they wanna go along with it)

but I'd suggest if you want to go through the dedication of making documents with photoshop (aughhhh) not to use that sort of font, cause you can notice a contrast between the font which looks really beat up and the graphic printing which looks clean as a whistle; you could instead make everything clean and afterwards apply a general decaying effect to the printed layer, downside is text may become a bit less readable, but everything will become much more consistent

Though considering SRNIC was the last project I partake in where everything is handled by me (solo development), it's best to say I underestimated it

currently, this fourm is posting progress update to our project Las Cherung (in fact, this fourm entirely is showcasing the progress of Las Cherung), and the storyline it is in refered to as "The Decay"
SRNIC's has been scrapped but some ideas of it (though mainly lore focus) may be inplemented within the decay's story, specifically the UFR, which may be under a different name, though that is still debated with my friends

Now people keep asking me this and unfortunate I hate to break it but I am by no means feel ready or prepare to hold a discord server, which I suppose to many is a miss opportunity considering our projects n stuff but I have personals reasons that I don't really like disclosing here that makes me not want to have a public server
THERE used to be a """"Public""""" cobalt server that started up during the creation of our group (May 2021) however it was shortly closed off from the main group due to some issues and some external problems that led to it, and it was sorta kept in this weird pseudo-active state until we officially deleted the server recently on June of this year.
I donβt really like deleting old servers since there could be history within them, I just leave my old servers as is but closed off for archival
stuff like screenshots for example, all of that would be gone
the only server that i made for cobalt is being the private, dev server where i talk with my other friends to work on our projects
To be fair i do like acrhiving stuff but I do not want to achrive the server by any means, mainly again, personal reasons i do not want to disclose in details

hey yalls, not a big update but im deciding to update the in-game logo that represent for Las Cherung, especially seen from the game's thumbnail
primarily because it's just using a font that i downloaded from the internet and not much characteristic is added to it, so in regards with new development stuff being put into LC, i went ahead and make the logo with my own impressions and designs on it.
The final result is this logo :)
even turning the year number "1964" into their own set of nixie lamps since its a pretty common model seen in LC

Secondly, in the portuguese language, where MaranhΓ£o word comes from, we capitalize and add one, for example, the word is, could be translated to "Γ©", so if we start a phrase, "Γ que JoΓ£o nΓ£o fazia a menor ideia que ia ser preso por isto.", which translates to, "Is that John had no idea that he'd get arrested by doing that.".
Today Marks the Day of completeing this hopefully final revision world map of a fictional timeline referred to as "The Decay" (Las Cherung)
A month-long endeavour of meticulously mapping every entirely different entities in this world (many wont have their own lore for good reasons LOL), this map represent the world of the Decay in the exact time period of October 08, 1964. By any means I will notify as per usual that this is a heavily alternative based history and does not follow real-world scenarios.
For the greater details lore of this world, it is still undermaking but i am very happy it came out well. I give immense credits to a close somebody Epsy_Ears for collaborating me with this map as well with mr_tix6v2 :)

Woah inkscape is getting better
this is amazing as always, you keep outdoing yourself, each map giving beautiful intricate details of so many things both by just what it shows and what would've led up to that point, amazing
there are just some remarks I wanna make, which tbf they're really small considering how complicated it is to work with inkscape imo
You got some issues with both the alignment of the continents/lines with the boundaries, not sure if it'd be too much hassle but I could recommend that instead of trying to line them up you export the contents of the globe and the rest of the map separately, then in photoshop mask the contents of the globe so that it becomes seamless easily, though it'd be at the expense of ending up with a png
I feel like land and water are hard to differentiate, even though there's the beautiful helpful shoreline outline the outstanding darker-colored lands give a bit of a disorienting contrast between land and water, but to be honest it's a small nitpick
Lastly I think that the texture paper you used feels a bit odd, I used to do that but learnt some pretty sick ways to give a feel that the texture is not just... superimposed iykwim; I'd recommend not to export from svg with any texture, but in photoshop find some great quality paper texture (usually 4-8K work fine), if it has defining features like seams you could try positioning it in a sensible way, put it on top of your export, blend with Multiply, then make a Smart Object out of everything and apply a displacement filter to it with a grunge map with maybe some blur, it gives a (imo) pretty good feel of those older kinds of prints that would do two colors at most and it looked rather wiggly (example is last image)

today i wanna showcase something to yall after a while of no model showcase from las cherung, this is a uhhh, small tiny gadget i had in mind of a fission-powered flashlight, it's quite a chonk of a box and it does retract rather than just turning on or off :)

yeah, im unsure if you were able to notice the map seemingly have a "nuclear / atomic" theme to it
in retrospect, within the decay story, columbia and other nations are under the so-called "atomic revolution" that sparked around the 1930s, more insight to why this movement began but it was in relation to the horrific post-great war decades prior
especially later on when the atomic energy, primarily fission as fusion has not yet been achieved, is viewed as a prosperious, key to prolongevity, a sort of addiction to prolonging one's self
now there is alot of lore gap when i explain this but as mentioned before im still working on it, though just remember the name of the story, "the decay" as that term is very important to consider once i explain what it really is (as its not just a name for this story only lol

hey guys, development is on a slowdown not due to school or anything
more over me and my friends are focusing on mechanics of the game (woah, core game will have mechanics?!?! to be fair this no longer considered a core game lmfao)

this is a area I made (another test area tho,,, may not be finalized) with some new lighting stuff I tinkered with, as well testing out a new sort of watermark design for my future showcases, I sorta don't like how it looks for now so I will finalize that later, for now, I just wanna show yalls this quick build :) a bit warmer than other builds as i did alter the light colors a bit

they are imagelabels, i drew the numbers myself
considering modeling these numbers aren't usually a best way to go if you want it optimal

Las Cherung is not really a core game in its central aspects but rather a planned "novel-like" story with major aspects of it being closely resembles to a factory-like gameplay.
Las Cherung is a fictional place taking place in a alternative history where the nations of the world changed to beyond recognition in the turn of the 20th century. The unfortunate series of event of wars and desperation of stability from the onslaught of The Decay (a term referred in this world regarding of chains of unfortunate circumstances) lead to the formation of the "Atomic Revolution" that quickly brang the northern hemisphere into a industrial hellscape. Fission become the major fuel source of the north as other older energy uses become obsolete. Las Cherung became one of many mandated "cities factories" established in North America, quickly becoming a major influence in the atomic sector. The decade of prosperity and relative stability from the Atomic Revolution eventually will face the Decay in the 1960s, whereas a soon to be power vaccum in the North will eventually spell the end of the revolution.
There are reactors in Las Cherung (if you considered nuclear batteries as one) but full fledge reactor are planned in LC though may not be the focal point of the game, as the game esentially explores on the basic idea of you being part of this mandated industrialist society, not knowing what is going on beyond the factories, contribute to it, and unfortunately maybe witnessing a end of a era.
It is a, very ambitious project I will be honest, so consider that as the plan for now

I'm thinking, what if fossil fuel reserves (coal, gas, petroleum etc.) became too risky to own and/or operate (due to the obvious resource exchange during war), yet no country focused on taking control of radioactive ore reserves (Uranium, Thorium etc.) during war due to the obvious necessity of fossil fuels of the late industrial revolution, so as a last resort, many functional and independent countries switched to nuclear fission as the "easy to acquire" energy source (which would only lead to even more war).
that is a interesting idea, though i did had different events in min that played out regarding atomic resources
where the discovery of fission occured earlier, but not become known after a devastating war, and sort of became a fixation on the northern hemisphere as some solution of stability and prosperity
a sort of a atomic fever, a obession, quickly shape the view of fission energy and other application a sort of a "solution"
a escape to "the decay"
so if you blow up the reactor (if you can) would it blow up a small area of the map?

In normal sense, that system often doesn't work long term without a form of schedule or leadership forming, but its still doing great for us

Funnily enough, this recent build
atm i am making these for fun, alot of these are subject to change as I still have yet to figure what would las cherung be like (blue prints, all the different areas planned out)
but this area, may be here to stay, along with others
with some future refinements.
