oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
BOOK CLUB
i love this
love love love
ok, one minute
"the marrow thieves" by cherie dimaline was recommended to me by @soft sleet . it's the first book i've read in YEARS and it's reminded me of the joys of reading for fun. it's a dystopian story about the indigenous people in canada and it's very cool so far and has so many interesting connections to history, highly recommended! (im still very new to reading sorry)
im gonna share my TBR list with yall
good reads š
OMG
I have to rewrite it soon
I meant good reads as in if yall have it and wanna share
so true
highly recommend Perilous Times (Thomas Lee), The Archive Undying (Emma Mieko Candon), and The Traitor Baru Cormorant (Seth Dickinson)
i don't have good reads but here's my tbr on story graph https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/bookloversophia?redirect=true
YIPPEE book club
did anyone else ever read 100 years of solitude?
here is my goodreads š https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/172902607-ry
Curious George
GOOD OMENS OH MY GOD
if you want mystery: anything agatha christie (a recent fave of mine was The ABC Murders), also recommend nancy drew books for sure
Leven Thumps: fantasy about a world inside imaginations sort of
Nancy Drew: mysteries, like Hardy Boys, vaguely similar to Scooby Doo
Check your local library, both physical and e-books
def start with everlost since you know you like it but then do scythe by neal shusterman I truly recommend it to everyone
Maze Runner
The Outsiders or Everlost like you said to re read.
scythe trilogy got me out of my decades long reading slump
amazing, i didnt get hooked by them but Good you got out of it
radio silence by alice oseman if you don't want fantasy or dystopian
iām a massive dystopian fan
same!
i have so much to read, im so excited, this is awesome
i mainly read scifi, fantasy, specfic, and horror/thriller
My Goodreads :
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/161098542
The Book Thief (Marcus Zuzak) is another very good and deep book
yes!!
Check out my profile on Goodreads!

(i'm trying to think of books that are good to read & reread, and not too difficult to parse)
Never Let Me Go made me cry. As did Klara and the Sun. good books.
The Princess Bride, one of my top ten books (and movies) of all time
JOJO RAID

The Search for WondLa (by Tony DiTerlizzi) good story, some full page illustrations of most of the major places and characters
emerging from my long streak of inactivity to join the conversation about BOOKS
if anyone likes epic fantasy and wants more books with strong female protagonists, LGBTQ+ representation, and dragons, i HIGHLY recommend The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. the worldbuilding and plot and characters are all so enticing, and even though it's like 800 pages long it's so worth it
ngl that sounds so cool
I LOVE THIS BOOK
massive vouch, i love this series
did you read a day of fallen night yet Susana?
shes just a lil girlie
one time i left a comment about ead and sabran on samantha shannon's instagram and she REPLIED TO ME and i think i spontaneously combusted a little bit
ok: summarizing
my suggestions for Jojo
- Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
- The Princess Bride, by William Goldman
- The Book Thief, by Markus Zuzak
envy! she seems really nice
ohoho i have so many Agatha Christie recommendations
I MADE A GOODREADS ACCOUNT! dont know why it took me so long lmao
my suggestion:
-do everlost bc you remember liking it
-scythe by neal shusterman
-hunger games
:O
you absolutely must read Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None, and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and i also recommend The Big Four and The Man in the Brown Suit although those two might not be for everyone
yea basically
you can track the books you are reading/wanna read, leave reviews, and complete goals
cool!
i am terrible at this, i've tried so many ways to share my reading list
it is actually most efficient for me to write it out
i've been tempted to make a goodreads for a while but i haven't yet
my current tbr is probably over 100 books long, just sitting in my notes app
yeah i tried goodreads and gave up before choosing a dif book tracking platform
Loved and then there were none, I recently bought another one of hers but I donāt remember what
..... share? i love finding new books
honestly understandable goodreads isnāt the best but itās the most used
i dont read much but i will take this chance to recommend my friends books. I read this one but Im willing to bet the others are good to. https://www.amazon.com/Journey-Dancer-Spirit-Stories-World-ebook/dp/B0971FWZJX/ref=sr_1_19?qid=1705460444&refinements=p_27%3AAlina+Lee&s=digital-text&sr=1-19&text=Alina+Lee
i wish her short story site was still up. she had some good short stories to
Iām about to rack my brain to try to remember all the books Iāve read before and add them to my āreadā on Goodreads so I donāt look like a dweeb
i literally cannot it's too long
hang on i can grab the books i've read over the past couple years though
actually one of my favorite books ever is i fell in love with hope by lancali. it's sad but so enlightening and poetically written
I literally only put a few I had read prior to good reads down that I knew I liked at some point but outside of that I havenāt
I used to read whole books in a day
I will say if you add me on good reads and you see me update my reading at 5am NO YOU DIDNT
and i support this
i feel like legally that is a requirement for book club
last year i read This Is How You Lose The Time War in one day and i felt like my inner child had reawakened and possessed me for a few hours
that book deserves it, also in my top 10 of all time
i literally am reading this book rn
i read it before the bigolas dickolas tweet and i felt so special
Yeah, i got it in early 2020 and. it was so good
enjoy it!
oh yea I recently got an actual summary of that one and wanted to read it
it's so good it's literally so good please read it
my tbr is spread out between goodreads, tiktok videos I have saved in my collection, and physical LMAO
iām very much a mood reader tho
I love weird narrative formats (see: House of Leaves, 100 Years of Solitude, XX, etc.)
they seem so interesting!! i get so scared that it'll be confusing tho
yeah, i am taking a LONG time to get through House of Leaves
100 years of solitude is much more approachable
hardcover >>>>>>
because i hate when the pristine paperbacks get all bent up just from me holding them
paperback overall bc it's easy to hold and carry around but hardcovers are soo pretty to have and digital is quick to read
I like paperback bc itās easiest to hold but I mostly do digital bc again iām a mood reader and books are expensive
digital for convenience, paperback by choice
paperback because easier to hold but i hate when they get all bent. i used to read digitally but actually having the book makes me want to read it more
hey guys! im gonna pick a book or two and ill let you know which i purchase so we can all look at it and read it soon
INARA ITS GOTTA BE ENGLISH IF WE ALL ARE READING IT
technically ur not wrong
BOOK CLUB MY DREAM
okay this made my WHOLE DAY! iām so glad you liked it and wanna recommend it to others!
INARA I AM HERE AND I AM LOSING IT IM SO HYPED
YES!!!!!!!!! I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!
whatever physical copy my library has lol
i noticed and i just SPED READ through the whole group. iām so jazzed. iāll share my tbr/book journal here sometime soon!!
Have any of you guys read the I Am Number Four series?
i have! itās been a long timeā¦iām pretty sure i finished them
A while ago, yeah
They'll always hold a special place in my heart. Such a fun read
this thread š«¶ š«¶ tryna read more in off time so this is amazing
i have no book recs really other than heartstopper i guess but thats a graphic novel
Book 1: great
Movie 1: fine
Book 2: a bit weird
Movie 2: completely worthless
I don't even remember the third of either lmao
Okay so what is everyone currently reading
im reading "lost in the never wood" by aiden thomas, a y/a spin of peter pan; "infinity reaper" by adam silvera, a y/a light fantasy book about some teenagers trying to save the world with their powers, major political themes happening in this one
im kinda on a teen or y/a kick at the moment! but i also recently finished "born a crime" by trevor noah and it was a really great memoir. would recommend!
Currently: House of Leaves, and Far From the Light of Heaven
Book 3: emotional damage (but also super confusing)
Movie 3: what just happened
I have a few books on the go but have been busy with school and personal projects.
ive been reading things we never got over, its pretty good i got really into it but then slowed down bc school started but im like half way thru it
okay i took some pictures of my journal/reading tracker/pride and joy and am gonna send them here! let me know if yāall have any questions š
THIS IS SO COOL
Iāve wanted to do a bujo for these kinds of things but I am terribly inconsistent with stuff like this
Your writing is so neat :o
Time to lock in guys. Return due date is Feb 7th but Iāll be traveling, so we gotta aim for finishing at least 1 by Feb2nd
Which one we starting on?
(Picture is sending)
def start with the one you remember enjoying
I think it will keep you engaged
also I have marrow thieves on my tbr :D
itās also easier to reread & be sucked in, even if you donāt remember the story well
Also; finished far from the light of heaven, 8/10 book
rahhhh so happy for you jojo!
Everlost is always a solid one
Do I get a prize for guessing the book game? Lmaoo jk but we are proud of you jojo, you got this!!!
im so happy to see this!!! i hope you enjoy it jojo!
i know my english prof in college would be so proud that people wanna read the marrow thieves! i'll have to revisit it
ALSO thank you for the compliments on my journal! my handwriting has seriously gotten better because of the journal and i love it so much. 10/10 recommend trying it out!
your handwriting and notetaking is like the stuff they put on like pinterest for "aesthetic" stuff, it looks too organized /pos
btj that is the highest compliment i could recieve omg š š©·
i always wanted to bujo but doing it for my life felt like WAY too much. doing it for my reading? felt a lot more doable. im on my fifth year of it so it's for sure grown and changed along with me. even if it isnt this fancy, i always recommend keeping track! it's so fun to look back on waht you read
im learning so many new things...
I think I could get into bujo if I actually did stuff to journal in it
I LOVED decorating my school planner and filling it out in highschool
I really think it would be cool to journal journal but again I sleep most of my days no point
color coded planner to bujo pipeline is real
i journal journaled for like a year straight and while im grateful i did, doing it daily took the fun out of it. thats my favorite part about something like this, i dont have to fill it out every day if i dont wanna
hey everyone! @everyone
React to this if you're gonna read the book along with me. It will motivate me, but no need to do so.
I'm gonna start reading Everlost by Neal Shusterman, hoping to finish this book in ~10 days or so, but knowing me, and my current reading speed, it may take longer. Also, if you guys are interested in doing like actual chats about the book or something (like a real book club) LET ME knOW!
if i can get it from my library i will read along!
we can do like a discord only stream discussing on movie night slot!
that might be fun
just placed the book on hold from the library! š«”

if i can also get it from my library i will read along! that would be sm fun
Just gotta wait for them to say itās ready for pickup o7
Iām ready (this is so I donāt NYOOM through it)
Maybe I should do audio book too HAHAH
Ngl also thinking abt getting the audio book
my local library didn't have it, so i got the audiobook and ebook
Audiobooks are great if you have a hard time sitting down to focus (or are a speed reader like me)
It was a good book, but it wasnāt easy to follow or get excited about at the end
Audiobook
my top recommendations are: anything by Brandon Sanderson, the broken earth trilogy by N. K. Jemisin, and the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
also, just got the everlost audiobook!
I was late to read these books, but I thoroughly enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Hidden Figures. Thereās also Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko, This Delicious Death, and Cleat Cute!
Update just got a digital copy from my library so Iām ready to read on my phone
I actually got the entire trilogy which is epic
GUYS IF YOU HAVE SPOTIFY PREMIUM THE AUDIO BOOK IS ON THERE AS WELL
THANKS Chloe! Now I can read along with Everlost using my Spotify Premium!
Japanese Light Novels
- Ascendance of a Bookworm
i was happy for a sec then remembered i switched to youtube music š¤¦š»āāļø
so current library itās a 4 week wait so I signed up for an e-card for the other public library in my area
their process is a lot more manual so iām waiting for them to process the card and then iāll see if they have it
i dont really like reading but, ive started percy jackson like a month and its pretty good
LETSGO
ok i finished reading this is how you lose the time war and it was very good + i even made a journal page for it
THIS IS SO COOL
I've been listening to a few Stephen King books when driving. Fairy Tale, Billie Summers and now The Institute. All of them are really good reads with next to no horror elements. Highly highly recommend them to people who can blow through long books
those books hold such a special place in my heart. i hope you like them!!!!
Excited for this! Iām trying to read more books this year. Right now Iām reading fourth wing (love), but I also loved infernal devices, hunger games, pendragon, divergent, and endergames. Moving on to throne of glass series after fourth wing!

Wait, what book are we talking about again?
everlost! (i think)
Ok, let me see if i can find a copy
If you have Spotify premium you can listen to the audiobook on there!
wait wth, I have Spotify Premium! I can do that too!! YIPPEE!!
okay, Spotify. Why do u ONLY sell Everlost's audiobook in Spanish??
Does this link work for you? https://open.spotify.com/show/6muu1dm2lyMtWiJL29KOHy?si=t7V8g2UyQouA-uV8QEq-CQ
"not currently available in your [my] region"
thank u, tho

I know I was able to get a digital copy of the book from my library online. Idk what your library access is but š¤
it doesnt work for me either :(
Stupid regional things
can i just share the audiobook i got with yall?
bc i bought it
is that a thing that i can do
Technically if there were a time that worked for everyone you could screenshare listening to it in a vc
trying
Your title's almost ready
Give us a few seconds while we load it to your Library, then refresh the page to start listening.

its just stuck on that now
:(
monkaHmm
oh god light mode
bruh
i will try once it uploads
my eyes
trying
books
it opens to ibook for me but i think it works with the audible app for phones and windows
downloading audible

feeling like a hacker rn lmao
bad news: it doesnt work

i cant open the file directly with the audible app, so i downloaded openaudible which can import aax files and sync with audible. i tried that but it still doesnt show up on the audible app. it DOES show up on openaudible but the "play audiobook" button is greyed out
if someone with a higher computer knowledge wants to give it a shot, feel free to
im trying to convert the aax into mp3 and maybe that can work
legal advice: apparently what i did is against amazon tos so dont do that :)
i found a free epub version of the book⦠would it be morally wrong to share that? lol
do it
it does for me!
no
opens in ibook
works on my phone
š
this may take awhile
hacc
my plan is to get to book 3 (more like section 3) in babel and then iāll start everlost
iām like 1.5 chapters away so iāll prob start today
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO
hackerwomanzz Inara!!
TOTALLY LEGAL WAY TO READ ALONG BOOK #1 : "Everlost" - Neal Shusterman
PDF + AUDIOBOOK !!! enjoyyyyy

yall, today we stole from jeff bezos to share literature
that might be the most noble crime ever committed
awesome work Inara! BTW: what do we all need this book for? /gen Are planning to do a read-along together or something like that?
jojo is reading the book, we're gonna talk about it or something, like a book club
still undecided how the format of bookclub is gonna be, but for now we (jojo + us) read along and we'll get together at some point (prob thru vc) and discuss it
I know this is taboo and I generally do buy books/get them from the library but I truly believe that literature should be accessible to all and if itās not then illegally accessing it is fair game
esp audiobooks, since most of the time theyre coming from amazon
bc if we are being completely real here capitalism is what makes these books unreachable nothing else
obvi support authors when you can but books should be free and available for everyone
for sure
I only pay for my textbook when I absolutely can not find it illegally or have to use the additional materials that only come with the paid version
bc fuck that education and educational materials should be free no one should have to pay to learn
MAKE LEARNING TOOLS/MEDIA FREE 2024! paying to access knowlege is classist and ableist
AGREE
on another similar note: scientific papers
yes yes yes
I of course want researchers to get paid for the amazing work they do but that shouldnāt come at the cost of those looking to learn
PAYWALLS TO ACCESS CRITICAL INFORMATION?
literally fuck off
ugh
the fact that researchers have to pay too to be published??? pay to upload, pay to download
yep
itās so messed up
I just want a society like in scythe
people can do whatever they want
jobs are purely for peopleās enjoyment all the crucial things are done by the benevolent ai
you can even decide not to have a job and just decide to rot in bed if you want and thatās okay
my hero is the woman who invented SciHub, Alexandra Elbakyan
Would you guys be down to do book club today on Part 1 of the book?
Part 1 is approx 60 pages
what time
I already read ahead a bit but I donāt wanna keep pushing it
Ermmmm in around 3 or 4 hours
i will be doing bday dinner with family but pls enjoy book club!

noice, supporting jvckk in Blockwars, then straight onto Book Club! Heck yeah
i will also have to miss this one but i hope yāall have fun!!! iāll try to make the next one (yknow, after i actually read any of the book š¤Ŗ)
Well only do it if minimum 4 people (including me) can make it!!
iāll try and start reading now just got access to the book today
but I should be able to do it
So anyone interested in doing a book club meeting today in 3.5 hours? @everyone react
Where are you gonna be starting from? Cuz I haven't started yet
i probably cannot finish reading by today :((
We are gonna chat about Pages 1-59
nodd
but i will start reading after a break, see how far i can get
sadly. i have dedicated this evening to cooking. but i will eavesdrop!
Can I just listen in?
Yes
Idk how book clubs go so weāll see what happens today haha
But ur welcome to just sit in and listen
Ok
im done part 1!
idk what people talk about in book club, i wrote some things down that seemed interesting
okay but literally same i have no idea what we would talk about, but since i'll be missing i might just post a message with some thoughts and cover spoilers of course
essentially book clubs usually just discuss what they think so far anything interesting theyāre finding in the book and anything theyāve analyzed about it
All done with Part 1! I don't have any notes or anything but maybe I'll have some things to say

like for example for the ballad of song birds and snakes a reoccurring motif I found was birds being caged and how they represented ppl being controlled
those kinds of things however bc this is a first time thing and we have a lot of newer readers I expect it will mostly just be what we are liking about the book so far which is just as awesome
bc what matters is that we are all having fun :D
personally im enjoying it so far
I love neal as an author heās written some pretty thought provoking books
I can def see heās grown as a writer since writing this book and thatās pretty cool too
i just finished part 1
ok u lead the call then HAHA
I'll just do what I always do and sit at the back and say NOTHING dw /hj
YALL
I WROTE DOWN NOTES
i love bookclub already, it just gives me a chance to do what brooke and i already do in dms, but with more people
inara can co-lead since sheās coming with receipts
how much notes do you have?
I just annotated a tiny bit
Hey guys! we're starting book club in about 1 - 2 mins!
donde estĆ”?
ill be there in a sec! we'll do it in events channel
@everyone GO TO EVENTS CHANNEL IF YOURE DOING BOOK CLUB
iāll be there soon
WAITING ON YOU
what book are yall even reading
Everlost by Neal Schusterman š
is it anygood?
nodd
yes!
we just started we only discussed the first 60 pages so you can totally still join for next time :D
hereās some totally legal ways to read and join
thanks everyone for joining in and sharing your opinions! it was so much fun
part 2 is from page 55 to 135 in the pdf version, so a bit longer than part 1
the best part of reading is getting to discuss it with people
It is indeed a good book. Also being in theses group discussions makes the book more enjoyable and hearing everyoneās thoughts about it opens ur mind to think more about it
for sure
and now that some of yāall gotten to experience it you can kinda prepare going into the next one! iām not saying you have to annotate or take notes but if thereās a question you have you know you can keep it in mind for future discussions :D
will do!
even tho part 2 is longer, since im doing around 30 pages a day, it would make it so the next book club is in 2 days... so i may have to look straight to finishing part 3 for the next meet? im looking
Looking forward to it thank you jojo š
next book club:
<t:1706310000:F>
read until:
PAGE 248 (hard cover book version) / END OF PART 3 / END OF CHAPTER 23
react if u plan on being there -- there will be a better reminder of this at some point, once we have a role and dedicated channels set up
in my calendar now!
we are making shit happen behind the scenes!!! do not fret
jojo and jods are organizing as we speak
<3 jods and jojo
I also think me and inara might at some point do a discussion for the book babel by r. f. kuang
super informal type thing
not like what we are doing for everlost but bc we are both reading it I think itād be valid LMAO
just for those who have read it and wanna discuss it
YES!
inara is still in the beginning part of it and iām on book 3 (itās just what the author calls part 3) so itāll be whenever we are both done with it
I wanna preface I started it like a month ago I just procrastinate :)
I have so many thoughts on this book Iām. So Into This
honestly I knew me and inara were gonna discuss anyways so I figured we should do it in here
esp since I know some of yāall have read already :D
itāll also be awhile if anyone wants to join in
TWs (that i copied from a website) || Alcohol, Assault, Blood, Child abuse, Death of a parent, Drugs, Emesis, Fire, Gun violence, Misogyny, Murder, Needles, Racism, Religion, Sexism, Sexual harassment, Slavery, Torture, Violence ||
itās an adult historical fantasy novel
itās good it blends fantasy with real life but itās important to note itās much different than everlost bc the audience is older and deals with serious topics
Good morning, Book Club!! I also want to echo what BTJ said: that was so much fun!! I literally haven't read any books since high school, and getting back into it thru a Discord server was not how I thought it would happen, but I'm very happy it did!

im so happy our silly little corner of the internet has encouraged you to get back into reading! keep it up
!
