which LED? there should be a little label next to them, assuming they're the ez-debug leds

timid kettle
#

which LEDs though? can you take a picture?

timid kettle
#

gotcha, pretty sure that's the VGA light

#

oh it's dram for this one

hazy radish
#

Yep

timid kettle
#

oh never mind the picture is upside down lmao

are you sure your gpu is fully seated? have you double checked the display cable is plugged into the gpu and not the motherboard i/o?

hazy radish
#

I took the gpu out to isolate the issue

timid kettle
#

ah well unless you have integrated graphics you're gonna have to put it back in to get the light to go away

hazy radish
#

It does have a igpu

timid kettle
#

gotcha, and still getting the same issue?

hazy radish
#

Yep

timid kettle
#

what model processor/motherboard?

hazy radish
#

10850k
Rog z490 strix

timid kettle
#

did you end up clearing cmos or no

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

and you have both 4 and 8 pin cpu cables plugged in?

#

also i would maybe try each ram stick individually to see if maybe one of them is bad, or a different kit altogether if you have one

hazy radish
#

Yes

timid kettle
#

are you sure the cables and monitor work? maybe double check monitor has power and source is set correctly, or try with a different machine if you can'

hazy radish
#

Different cable types too

timid kettle
#

do you have both cable types plugged in at the same time or just one

hazy radish
#

Tried each and then both at the same time to see what would happen

timid kettle
#

gotcha

hazy radish
#

The pins look fine, one looked a Lil odd if I looked it at a wired angle, but looking down they look fine. I even was careful taking in out and in and covered the socket when I cleaned the cpu.

timid kettle
#

hmmm

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

i would maybe take a second look at that pin... other than that i'm not sure, esd is definitely a possibility. maybe double check to make sure there's no debris or anything on the board, or trapped behind it if you can see back there.

#

you can kind of use your phone camera as a microscope, it's not great but better than nothing

#

what thermal paste do you use?

hazy radish
#

But it passed the cpu post code ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

timid kettle
#

ah yep, that'd do it ๐Ÿ˜„

#

working now?

hazy radish
#

No everytime I try to boot it go yellow, red and go to white and stays there

timid kettle
#

oh, i thought you meant you found the short

hazy radish
#

No haha, just saying that'll be my luck

timid kettle
#

well, i would say that's not unlikely ๐Ÿ˜„ if i were you i would take off the cooler and double check, clean up with some IPA if you have it. it's possible the cpu is fine but one of the pcie lanes is shorted to ground or something. probably not a permanent issue, should likely still work if you clean off the paste

hazy radish
#

Ipa?

timid kettle
#

isopropyl alcohol

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

if there isn't any then there isn't any i suppose. could look around to see if some accidentally got elsewhere but knowing that you have a conductive thermal paste definitely makes me think that's the most likely issue

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

def possible

hazy radish
#

.. Mf

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

oh wait sorry i misread, no not likely it's under the IHS

#

more likely it's pushed into the socket but ultimately that's not super likely either

timid kettle
#

if you haven't taken the cpu out of the socket and double checked i'd do that

hazy radish
#

Yeah I did earlier

#

But wouldnt it be stuck on the red led if it was a fault with the cpu to that point

timid kettle
#

no, because it could be something that's not critical to cpu function but is needed to output video that's shorted

hazy radish
timid kettle
#

Those look fine... i definitely see a bit of the paste on the edge of the IHS and the socket but it doesn't look like it's shorting anything. i would look on the board in the area around the socket
