Some apps will perform better on Intel. Liv performs like absolute turd on AMD from comparisons that have been done and I feel safer running that on an Intel processor.

Even if AMD is supposedly 1'000'000'000'000'000'000'000'000x better than Intel overall.

When I'm doing creative streams, it gets a bit wonky (and I'll be using the ATEM Mini Pro for this, since desktop will be upstairs). 2 cameras, a HyperDeck Studio Mini (for like intermission videos, since the ATEM Mini doesn't have video support itself), and a laptop running MixItUp for overlays etc

#

The ATEM Mini has a keyer for overlays, so I can stick my overlays on that keyer, and it'll display the overlays over the video

#

Not to mention with the ATEM Mini Pro I don't have to offload the streaming duty to that laptop which would probably break under that load, but can instead let the ATEM itself do the encoding and streaming

It's an Intel processor with an NVIDIA graphics card, but I'd rather stream off hardware than that laptop

Especially as it'll be running my stream bot too (which can be a bit meaty), as well as using a lav mic and a dynamic mic

and then I have the wonderful situation of trying to run the overlay and the stream dash for the closed captions (including getting the laptop and the ATEM to both pick up my mic at the same time).

Unless your project is like so stupidly inefficient that it needs 8 cores to do things, a 3600 and 3700X are going to be identical in compile times.

@gusty trench he'll have done that to avoid needing to buy a new motherboard most likely (those two CPUs use the same socket). He can't run Ryzen on that socket and therefore your "Get Ryzen. Just do it" remark wouldn't have been helpful. It's the reason why I went from an i5-2400 to an i7-3770K even though Ryzen was already out then (albeit first generation). I'd have had to buy new RAM, new motherboard, and new CPU. And I didn't want to do that so....

@kindred egret due to them being the same generation you shouldn't need to update the BIOS to run the chip. Of course, it's good to stay updated (most of the time) so you should still update it. But yeah, everything should just work.

Of course, if they were willing to get a new motherboard too then yeah, Ryzen would definitely be the better choice especially for a single PC setup, but if they're not willing to get a new motherboard then they can't use Ryzen. They might also need new RAM since I'm not 100% sure if Intel Core 7th Gen is DDR3 or DDR4

yes that will work, but from what i've read and stuff I've watched, the bad thing about egpus is they cant fully harness the power of the graphics card. but you should be good. the rtx 2070 is still a very capable graphics card. if you can hold out on the core x , i'd wait for the rtx 30 series to come out

Yeah I'm having to consider that as well. It'll be a pain though. I'm thinking of getting something with basic graphics and a thunderbolt port, and then use an eGPU. That being said, I'm also considering the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo.

@spring remnant gaming laptops that has powerful dgpu like 2070mq isn’t meant for egpu, you won’t notice performance improvement over your dgpu, maybe you will only on 4K. Egpu was built for increasing ultrabook performance, with gaming laptops you’ll face TB3 bandwidth penalty, and compatible matters with some titles.

@spring remnant dgpu would be 0 degrees since it’s off😄 You meant cpu, yes it’s. But if you want similar temperature just repaste it, maybe not as good as egpu but cost maybe like €10 vs €1000 or more maybe for defeating your dgpu😉 I’ve stealth too so I used 1080ti and now using 2080.

I had a thought recently that I'd like to get your guys' opinions on. So for my PC build my plan was to go to a local glass etching service to etch the lighting bolt from Power Rangers onto the tempered glass side panel of the Lian-Li PC-011 Razer Edition case (which would also match my Power Rangers RGB theme) but then I also thought about mounting the GPU vertically since IMO it would look more aesthetically pleasing to me. Do you think it'd be necessary to do both or would the glass etched logo make the design rather pointless? I know that this seems pointless, but I need to know whether I'm better off just putting in the GPU traditionally.

@charred ice zenbook Pro Duo secondary screen is their new innovative product from previous zenbook series touchpad screen. Razer has this kind technology like way long ago I think in 2013 or 14 with Switchblade touchpad controller which allowing you to work faster with some apps. Unlike Asus that has tons Laptops model Razer is smaller company, they should put priority with current devices imo, recently I feel they’re quite lazy on system with more competitors on their field, thin light categories, less innovation with similar premium price and more QC issues with the Blade unlike before. Actually Razer has doing some innovation on system, like Razer Edge gaming tablet, “copied” also by big brand Alienware with their project UFO, maybe soon we’ll see similar thing project Valerie, this one actually great imo, my dream setting and even Linus rumored stole it Lol.

I had a Razer DeathStalker Ultimate with their Switchblade UI, it's not the same.

The SwitchBlade is more akin to a StreamDeck with a touch screen than an actual extended display (like the Zenbook)

Because let's say MixItUp, I can't use that on SwitchBlade (has to be coded to directly support it, then there'd also be StreamDeck like functionality), but it'll work on the Zenbook Pro Duo with no extra coding. That's why I feel the StreamDeck "copied" the SwitchBlade if anything.

Yes you can do such way. If you’ve laptop with dgpu it’s saver then unplug it on on condition to avoid driver crash between egpu and dgpu. If you don’t have dgpu on your laptop you can just unplug it anytime since it’s basically act like Pheriperals like USB Drive for example.

@spring remnant 40gbs is Intel Marketing speed of TB3 it is actually up to, for egpu setting it depends on host laptop, for Blade with PCIe3 4 lanes it’s around 26gbs device to host, 22gbs host to device, that’s the max you can get from TB3 egpu setting. And be careful also longer TB3 cable like over 1m can mean more bandwidth penalty, I think 0,7 is fine. For speed on egpu you can check with gpuz like this

Yes that’s not 1070maxq performance, 1080p CSgo would be a lot higher (forgot don’t play it anymore but it was for sure 3 digit). As mentioned google nvidia control panel max performance nvidia graphics, pretty sure it runs on intel UHD 620 from that FPS looks. Btw I don’t use cortex anymore, to me performance boost apps is only for old hardwares.

Right click on desktop and go to nvidia control panel, to 3D setting you’ll program setting tab, search exe file from CSgo and turn it to preferred run on nvidia Graphic instead instead global setting.

I never run user benchmark it isn’t accurate for laptops hardware, I measure with benchmarks tool like 3Dmark, unigine or superposition since my use case mostly gaming.

If still not right, maybe the gpu die from what that user benchmark say, see you’re using 1070 right? And it said 2060, cpu throttle 99% and cpu tab result seems green okay, weird benchmark.

Depends on title, if it's bugged often by Optimus like on @ruby totem I force like that to run on Nvidia GPU, but I rarely play csgo though I had similar issue with rocket league.

@acoustic trout Sounds like your PC needs a total upgrade if you still on a 3770. Best thing to start with is budget, from there we can look at AMD or Intel. From there suitable motherboards and a CPU . What is your current GPU

@west tinsel with Blade advanced you can’t do one cable solution it still needs power adapter unlike stealth, if it’s fine I’ll recommend lenovo TB3 dock. Though actually for 2 144 Hz monitors you can use DP and TB3 port (HDMI only 2018 model since apparently later models routed to iGPU means you get lower performance)

@strange anchor It really depends on the specs of the laptop and what graphics card it has. If it has something like a 2070 or 2080 you should be good for 3 or 4 years. I sold my 2016 gaming laptop it had a gtx 965m. I have a lenovo leigion y740 with i7 9750, 32gb of ram and rtx 2060
