Q: Have we hit the point of diminishing returns on sensor tech?

Testing method: Take a team of decent-but-not-pro players and give them the latest and greatest mice from Razer/Logitech/Etc/Etc vs a team of pro players and give them mice from 15 years ago.

Further questions: Which BITS of mouse tech matter? Does having 35k DPI matter even if you're never going to set the mouse that high?
Does a polling rate of 8000 matter? Can you even notice?
Do you need optical sensors in your click switches???

Like I want some goddamn SCIENCE to be done here.

There is a difference between 125 and 1000hz polling, so I'd assume there also is a difference between 1000 and 8000
