It does not exclude. It stressed the point that no special consideration is going to be taken. Anyone can still join, but cannot expect special treatment. If you feel like this isn't the group for you, then the phrasing did achieve its goal.

There's sometimes people in here looking for 'gay-only' for their group. And you know what? That is excluding. And it is still fine! Anyone can have their group consist of whatever type of human they want, and it is actually a good way to ensure the group not disband due to misunderstandings or lack of harmony.

The way I see it advertising a group for LGBTQ folks doesn't indicate there will be any hate or specific attitude in the group. The way the original message was phrased went beyond a request for a specific audience and seems to indicate that there will be purposeful hateful attitudes in the group

You know, my experience (and i'm guessing the OP's) has been exactly the opposite.

Any game where "safe spaces" and whatever identifiers you might use are specifically advertised? They tend to be the least accepting, and fastest to explode into pieces.

People will be people but there is nothing hateful about saying I'm looking for a group of LGBT folks. There would be nothing wrong with saying I'm looking for a group of trump supporting christians. The way that specific message was phrased seemed to indicate a step beyond just looking for a prefered group

But i've had just... so, so many terrible experiences with players who deliberately emphasized those aspects, that i could see the pragmatism of saying "if that's what is most important to you, even in fiction, we might not get along."
But i guess without that context it could read as "gay people, ew." or something like that.

I believe what was said was that they were explicitly looking for the opposite of a safe space for queer people. Why wouldn't you classify that as discrimination?
