In this episode Emma and Dan talk about two of the most accomplished people to have ever lived: Eslanda & Paul Robeson, who inspired Dan's song Essie & Paul.

Actor, a singer, activist; doctor, author, manager. Catch the Robeson bug from Emma and Dan, as they tell you just how amazing they were. We also hear from Ciara Ismail of Bolt Strings, about the sound of the song.

Very interesting episode today, have to admit I hadn't heard of Essie or Paul which now hearing about them feels shocking to say!

Didn’t know about them and hearing Emma & Dan talk about them I’m like “how have I never heard of them”. But then I think, well, maybe cause I’m not black and they are not from my time so was never exposed to them and they work. And that’s sad cause they seem like incredible people. Will definitely educate myself now.
Also a lot it the song makes a lot of sense hearing about their life.

That's the great thing about this podcast, to hear about this unknown pair of people, it is the first time I heard about Eslanda & Paul Robeson.
They are a fascinating couple, they are so different but somehow achieve so much ❤️

Loved the comments of Ciara Ismail about the sound of this song.
The strings are very remarkable.
Also the historical background Essie & Paul lived in. A History class 📖

How did you do it? It will become a trademark 😆

Still listening, but as an American, I have never heard of Essie or Paul, which is sad. Cause they’re rad.

But also, if anyone is interested, I’m doing a master’s in urban studies, and we have discussed a little bit of the urban structure of NYC and Chicago around this time, so I can share that

I also had never heard of Essie and Paul, which is a real shame bc wow!!! What absolutely incredible people! I kept thinking how do you do all of that in just one lifetime? Mind blowing. Was super interesting to learn about their lives and the work they did. I also particularly enjoyed Emma’s deep dive on the song in this episode :)
