#Help with not getting interviews for entry level jobs?

@celest obsidian Hey Neil sorry for the late response.
Just going through the resume, I feel like you need to be a little bit more specific about the things you did.
For example: Integrated dashboard into website using ReactJS - I feel like this doesn't give the recruiters a clear picture as to what you did - maybe you could rephrase it like this.
Integrated a dashboard that displays customer's electricity usage information built using Javascript to the company's website on a separate page by adding a new GNB menu by using React's "integrate_dashboard" library.
You don't need to add many points if you think the resume is going to get too long, but be specific and clear on the points and make sure to let your recruiter know that you really know about the things that you've built
The key is to give this impression - "this guy knows what he's talking about", "This guy actually knows the details" They wouldn't want to spend time in an interview with someone who's likely to not be able to explain in a lot of detail what they've built.
If you have a porfolio, or screenshots of the stuff you've built it would be nice to include a url or pdf if they allow attachments too
But I'd like to encourage you by saying don't worry, you're already doing a good job by asking for advice and not giving up knocking on them company doors! ๐ . Keep iterating & improving and the door will eventually open
hello i didnt say this
for u just to ignore it
@undone pier Lets follow directions please
@celest obsidian same with you
ok I'll do so in the future ๐
sorry about that, will do
question: if threads are self contained -- why does it matter?
keeping things on topic
I had a 60% no response rate from companies
So just keep chugging. You can also work remote as well, and live in Seattle ๐
Did you find a job eventually?
Ill be logging my new applications thanks to you haha
Op id say its cuz youre not a cs guy
But you should shoot cvs like a machine gun
Left and right
Internship ya
only 60%? I feel like my no response rate is higher ๐ฆ
60% no response rate is 40% response rate which is very high
abnormally high
average cs major is probably getting around 10% response rate
just looked back at my spreadsheet for last year
Response as in human interaction/OA/interview or any response including automated?
I only recorded 30 companies, heard back from 11, 2 were immediate rejects, 5 rejects after coding, 2 ghost after coding round, 2 offers.
Automated declines
And OA type stuff was around 20ish
Average cs major barely passes all the classes as well
People in my class are absolute missing links, about 70% of them. Have no projects, learn nothing etc.
i wouldnโt say average
Man you're feedback is amazin
This world needs more like you
I'm currently a senior studying engineering. I pivoted to software my sophomore year and was able to get an internship with a good company. However, I'm having trouble getting interviews, even when I feel like I'm likely to be a good candidate. I'm specifically applying to new-grad roles. Is it because my major isn't Computer Science? I posted my resume in resume-review in case that's the problem.
Out of curiosity, are you an international student? Are the jobs you're applying to local or in another state?
No not international. Most of the jobs are in another state/city (Seattle, where I want to move).
For my internship, I have applied to a ton of jobs, like hundreds. And I only got maybe 10% reply rate. All of them were local to me. Did you try applying for local jobs as well?
Yeah. My closest big city is Chicago, and I've applied to a bunch there as well. I've started to run low on new-grad jobs to apply to, but I'm guessing more will open up in the fall
10% is good, fwiw.
have u had ur resume reviewed. If ur not getting ANY interviews then thats usually problem #1
It's in the RR channel rn. I did have it reviewed by my colleges career center
Have you applied to any jobs that target new graduates specifically? As in the company has a graduate program or w/e. Seems pretty popular in Sweden where I live.
If you aren't even getting interviews and you are applying to jobs that target juniors/graduates then it's definitely your resume.
Yup, basically all are specifically new-grad positions.
Sliced couldnt find anything wrong with my resume in particular though :(
Hey Neil, it'd be nice if you could show me your resume, and I can provide some feedback.
I've been an interviewer myself, and I do have a good understanding of what makes candidates stand out ๐
please find his resume in #973598253620789308 we dont need reviews going on in this thread
