Like title says, laid off last december with 2 YEO in software with a heavy emphasis on devops. haven't been getting any attention lately, no interviews at all. I'd like to think my resume is pretty strong, but probably could use some work, just not sure on what I should be focusing on? bachelors degree? certs? the more I read about devops as a career, the more it seems like it's an experienced position only.
#Laid off with 2 YOE and no degree, what to focus on?

sure why not, i would look at anyu roles you think you are qualified for and go from there
there's some roles where I'm qualified except for degree req and yoe, but is that a huge deal breaker?? would certs be worth the money in my case?
i mean why does it matter if its a huge deal breaker?
why are you allowing a job posting to reject you before you even apply?
ask yourself that question
you're right
I think with 2 YoE unless you did nothing but refill staplers you can probably do well as a mid-level
The best thing you can do is be open about what you know and what you don't know, and demonstrate that you're willing and able to learn as you go
You might need to grind through some leetcode stuff just as a backstop. Can't hurt to know some more formal CS concepts and fancier programming techniques like recursion, because that stuff does occasionally come up in real life and the difference between someone who does and doesn't know that stuff is noticeable when you need to make something run fast, reduce memory usage, etc.
You'll never need to implement merge sort at work. But you very well might need to do things like reason through algorithmic complexity, walk through a tree, find a maximum value in a list in linear time, etc.
Heck I'm not even a professional dev and that stuff comes up in my data science work
I did a bunch of CS courses in high school, much more than is normally available. I’m 2 years into an online bachelors, so that’s coming along too. I think I’ll start leetcoding daily from your advice, it’s been a while since I’ve done anything directly of the sort
@warm lake thank you for the advice, I greatly appreciate it
Can't hurt to get a second opinion from somebody else, but I certainly don't think daily LC could hurt either, as long as you have the time and energy
Because then you can focus your energy elsewhere
There are so many postings out there such that it's a waste of time to apply to postings you're unqualified for
Imo in this case most things that say manager staff or lead you'd be wasting your time applying
And yes yoe is kind of a deal breaker for those
Degree requirement in general is also a pretty big deal breaker
