#Parent Company taken Private

My company's parent company was recently acquired by a large asset management company and was subsequently taken off a stock exchange.

The general consensus of my co-workers is pretty negative and they're worried about a squeeze. Should I be worried about that as well? Is there anything I should look into to check that out or should I start looking for a new job?

Start looking for a new job imo. Acquisitions, especially in this economy are almost always going to lead to reduction in costs and you are considered a cost, most likely

Get the jump on looking for a new job. If it turns out you're not affected, great! No worries. And if it turns out you will be, you're in a better position than you'd have been if you waited

Dang, I was hopefully going to hold out a year or two to get a total of 4 YOE. I'm not in a good place to be applying but I'll def consider it

Do you mind if I ask which company?

If it's who I suspect it may be (there are only so many big asset managers and big companies to acquire) all I can say is that we thought the same originally but so far it's turned out alright and I couldn't be more pleased with the new direction.

While I'd echo the advice to always be prepared for the worst, acquisitions are not always bad things for everyone, sometimes it is in the interests of both parties (although there must always be some amount of people that lose or dislike the new direction).

The other reason I'd say start looking now is that if your company starts laying off, you will be tossed into the job search along with a sizeable chunk of your network. People who would like to hire your company's talent will now have potentially dozens to choose from alongside their existing talent pipeline. If you begin early, you can leverage your connections before everyone else you work with is doing the same. It's likely you have similar connections with your peers (former employees, etc.)

Tldr: Prep for the worst, hope for the best.
