#If I accepted a voluntary redundancy in the middle of interviews must I mention it?

I've been interviewing for some weeks because I feared redundancies at my employer. I'm nearing the final stages of my interviews, and just recently took a voluntary redundancy that my employer offered me.
Am I now obligated to announce this to all the companies I've been interviewing for? Or it's something that I should mention only when asked?
e.g. in answer to "why do you want to leave your company?" or "what is your notice period?". Or I can avoid it even for those, and the question should be more explicit for me to tell them?

This is between you and your current employer. In some cases, the severance package agreement can explicitly state not to share details about the package or the existance of the package with others.

#

So check your agreement before sharing anything.

#

If sharing info is allowed, then you can share if you wish. You could still be asked why did you accept the offer. So have some good answers ready beyond the voluntary redundancy offer.

@mellow wolf Thank you for the answer! The agreement says I can share info, but I will pretend that actually the details are under NDA, and that I can only relate that I took a voluntary redundancy and my end date.

I want to not disclose it, but I also don't want to be rejected because of dishonesty. What if the interviewer asks a question like:

  1. "What do you work on at Current_Company?"
  2. "Why do you want to leave your current company?"
  3. "What is your notice period"?

Would it be grossly dishonest to give truthful answers but omit that I accepted a voluntary redundancy.

1: say that you are about to leave or describe the last project you worked on.

#

2: standard answer is "looking for new challenges".

#

3: say a period that would be ok for you. Maybe you want to take a break in between jobs? Maybe you are eager to start asap?

There is nothing negative about accepting a voluntary redundancy. You possibly was already looking for things outside of the company, and such offer came at the right time.
