So what other industries are people transitioning into? For a variety of reasons I'm considering leaving software development due to the recent explosion in AI.

I'm not interested in continuing a job supporting these companies and being locked into their APIs or being reduced to a glorified business analyst.

I've got 5YOE software dev/ops and 4YOE network/systems. No qualifications.

For background half my project team just got moved to implement ChatGPT for the business (even though no one has a clue what they are doing and no thought is being given to security implications).

I’m doing whatever I want to do

Which doesn’t change based on chatgtp

Leaving the industry entirely seems drastic if that project is the only reason. That's not what's happening everywhere - in fact, anecdotally yours is the only hint I've heard of that happening.

It's not because of that project specifically, it's due to the fact that this is the way the industry want to move and that software developers are seen as a cost center.

I became a developer because I enjoy writing code and solving problems myself. If my job consists of automating myself out of a job and being forced to use some huge corporation's AI model as a glorified BA then I'm out.

Is this the only software job you have had?

Software developers are a cost? Maybe for companies where tech is the overhead and not the product

Programming's about "I reckon, since this is true, do this. Otherwise, go with the other thing."

Not "typing code into text files."
