#Is it just me or anyone else experiencing this?

I'm not sure what more I can truly do. I am an engineer with about 2.5 years of experience. Have a lot of front-end and full-stack experience. I have been applying for about 3 months now. I go through the same cycle of revamp resume, apply, get nothing. Have done that about 7 times now. I haven't gotten a single response. Is SWE just that bad rn, or is it just me? Any advice on how to power through it? I swear I cannot be the only one.

How many applications?

remote cairn
#

ive sent well over 200

tiny knoll
#

Ah yeah, that's quite a small amount nowadays. Everyone's feeling the same effects.

#

Power through it by just sending more applications.

#

No way around it.

remote cairn
#

i get that but everytime i either come on here or go to my peers they are always interviewing and stuff, so it just makes me think it's always me

tiny knoll
#

If you're getting like 10% of callbacks you got prior, you just need to apply 10 times more.

tiny knoll

#

oh yeah you can see like the 4-5 posts i have

#

i constantly put my resume on there

#

like every few weeks i go through it again

#

ill go through it again next week

tiny knoll
#

Yeah I think you just need to apply much more. Try also applying to mid level jobs as well.

remote cairn
#

tbh i have been applying to all non-senior jobs

#

i don't even get a rejection i just never hear back lol

#

so it really just makes me question everything lol

#

but im glad to see i aint the only one

tiny knoll
#

Maybe you have a typo with the email or phone number or something like that?

#

Usually you'd get at least one automated denial in 200 applications.

remote cairn
#

tbh i probably have just didn't see them bc i block them out mentally (or at least try to)

tiny knoll
#

Ah fair enough

remote cairn
#

tbh this is a lot tougher now than when i graduated college

tiny knoll
#

At least to put it in perspective with my experience

#

I've had to apply to 4000 jobs.

#

To get 2 offers.

#

Biggest reason is because I'm a high school graduate, and 18 but.

remote cairn
#

oh that's probably why

tiny knoll
#

Yeah, if you're getting 1 callback for every 300 applications. Apply to 3000 to get 10.

remote cairn
#

idk

tiny knoll
#

Everything's a number game. Just the numbers are worse now.

remote cairn
#

i guess so

#

just makes me feel like shit and makes me question whether or not i belong in this field

#

i guess we will find out

#

bc im not convinced either way still

faint oxide
#

have you tried getting referals?

tiny knoll
#

Good point. You have 2.5 years in the industry, should have quite a bit of connectoons.

remote cairn
#

my only real work experience is either here or my other employer and most of them are there.

tiny knoll
#

Any connections from college?

#

Friends you had in college? Professors? Etc.?

remote cairn
#

not professors i rarely had anything to do with them

#

friends i have a few

tiny knoll
#

Can also try networking through your family.

remote cairn
#

my family doesn't know anyone in this field

#

they don't even know what i do

faint oxide
#

i mean just ask for referal from ppl on blind or something. you don't actually need to know them

remote cairn
#

how do you do that?

faint oxide
#

just ask

#

there's tons of ppl asking for referals all the time

#

or just DM ppl

remote cairn
#

i guess i could just not sure how people are gnna want to refer a stranger unless they just don't care

#

they can't even see my resume

#

i don't use blind so idk

#

plus idc if its faang

tiny knoll
#

I plan on referring 2 people here when they graduate. Just socialize

remote cairn
#

no one on here will refer me because i complain on here too much lol

tiny knoll
#

All of LinkedIn is people complaining

#

So you're fine

faint oxide
#

people don't care just go on blind and get referals for companies you want

remote cairn
#

okay thanks ill give it a go

faint oxide
#

i mean you gotta pay the blind tax and post your tc. i'd like to think that at least if you post that then people will help out. also don't forget to tag the companies you want referals from in your post

remote cairn
#

oh i didn't do that

#

not really sure what to say except "looking for referral" especially since everyone on there got laid off lmfao

#

i dont really have a sob story here

faint oxide
#

hah yea if you're a good sob story teller then tons of ppl will jump in to help

remote cairn
#

yeah so not sure how much help this will bring

faint oxide
#

make up something to get ppl riled up. like "we were chatting at lunch and i criticized elon musk. my boss didn't like that and has been treating me badly ever since..."

#

put me on pip, asked why i didn't answer the pages last night, etc

remote cairn
#

okay ill try then

#

doubt it’ll do anything it seems like i’m an repellent for interviews

#

seems like blind is only for faang? i made a post and everyone just says how does my company have engineering lol

#

A lot of people's resumes need improvement beyond superficial revamps

spark mural
#

God damn! 2.5 years exp and no callbacks. If you ain't getting calls I'm finished bro 💀

Stop this. You’ve been beating yourself up in this discord for months. You think with all the negative self talk it’s actually helping you? Seriously.

#

You shared your resume the other day, people gave actionable, meaningful feedback as to the issues with the resume. Your bullets under your projects didn’t say what tech you used and how you accomplished the task. I say this because if you’re not getting interviews, it’s the resume. Take the constructive criticism, make the changes, keep going. Stop with the constant negativity.

#

There’s an amount of emotional support we as a community can offer you. It is limited. I’ve seen many people on this server do what the individuals in this thread have done and given reassurance and feedback. Eventually it becomes apparent that the constant reassurance isn’t getting through to you

#

And finally, you aren’t even unemployed! Relax.

faint oxide
#

iirc, this is the same guy who asked for advice on a statistics problem, then followed that advice and ended up earning 💵

#

so it pays to listen

Tbf people should be selective on what advice they listen to
