Is it possible to get a job in the field while I'm still finishing up this degree?
Anything is possible, just depends on the specific situation, difficult top acheive though, in my opinion.

What do I need explained? Just how to talk to a potential employer about why I haven't finished the degree before applying. I would just respond that I am in a tough situation financially and anxious to start working after having been in school for so long (Non-traditonal student have stopped/started lots before deciding on CS) Do you think this would be an acceptable answer? And any kind of advice you'd feel would be useful for finding a position while I finish

No, a potential employer does not care about your personal situation
brings no value to them
to get a job, any job, you need to make yourself valuable to them
need to convey your skills and value to the company
i mean the only advice i have is the same as always, make a resume, figure out what kind of role you want and apply apply apply

I figure a portfolio of projects, leetcode EXP, and mock interview prep should be enough of a way for me to demonstrate value
Maybe try to apply for some internships since I'm still in school as well?

i mean if you are desperate for money, i would say any job that makes said money would be fine
but only you know the real severity of your situation
i dont imagine you getting a fulltime role while still in school but its not impossible or anything

I'm not "lose my house" type of desperate the gig work is providing for me I'd just like to start making some adult money I'm only netting like 20k
I am pretty confident in my ability to perform as well It's just school is my only hurdle

i mean the only problem is conveying that to an employer
and getting someone to take that risk on you
but if i were you, i would just make a resume, learn how to interview for the role(s) you want
and apply apply apply

Are full stack web app applications a good way to convey that? I've found them to be the lowest barrier to entry project I've been making like copies of popular things like TikTok
