#software developer - trying to find first job since 2018

@grave barn you say you haven’t had a job that pays since 2018 but you very clear have experience listed on your resume from March 2022 to present
Also I’m not really sure what being first generation has to do with anything
If you graduated with a degree 4 years ago you don’t need relevant coursework anymore
Especially if that coursework isn’t really relevant to the roles you are applying to/want
I meant relevant formal experience related to software development, sorry for my grammar. I was falling asleep after finishing my resume lol
I meant by feeling a little lost since I don't know where I should improve or why I can't seem to land a job
But isn’t that most recent job “formal” experience
Unlesss I’m misunderstanding
Yes, I said close to no experience after finishing my degree. The only job is the one in March 2022, the gap is really long I meant. Since Dec 2018 to Feb 2022 I haven't had a formal experience relevant to software development
Idk why that matters
You could easily just leave the degree dates of your resume
Alright that's great! Thanks a lot @drifting sinew, also I don't know if I have to mention the last job is a volunteer full time job (doesn't pay)
Seems fine to me
Like nothing really stands out as bad from a high level about the resume
Also, if you don't mind. Is the information I wrote on my resume that could be chopped off or I might want to add ?
@drifting sinew hey I really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot for helping me 🙏
please dont delete ur resume and stuff ince youve gotten help
I accidentally deleted the post trying to edit it and I've been trying to recreate another post. Here is my resume:
My dumbass deleted my original post trying to edit it and add more details to the post. Sorry, I'm so new at this discord. I came from being new at reddit too. I will leave my current resume and post here:
I graduated back in December 2018 and since then I haven't had a formal software development paying job other than March 2018, but it is not paid. I am trying to improve my resume and would love some help. I feel very lost now since it's been couple of years and no actual software development job and I'm a first gen graduate and dont know who to talk to or why can't I pass resume screening (I fixed my resume since i had a 2 page resume). If you ask the reason to the first gap 2018-2020, I got married (she is not from the country) and had to fix some issues outside and be back and forth. I've been applying for jobs for the past 1.5 years and no luck. Please let me know if the current resume has actual content that could pass resume screening and if it is okay to start applying with that resume. Thanks for all the help and hopefully I can land a job soon 🙏
is your latest exp not a job?
It does not pay, sadly is a full volunteer job. The great thing about that job is my manager is willing to be my reference and pushes me to keep applying.
how many job applications have you sent out?
my guess is that your recent experience is legitimate to put on, but i’m not an expert with regards to that case
(i mean it’s def something to put on, just is it technically a job? meh, it should be fine - don’t lie about it if asked but you can also spin it and emphasize your manager will provide a reference and you do real work etc)
i’d personally leave the associate’s degree off (just list bachelors and graduation year), and leave coursework off
@deft pewter thank you very much I will make those updates. Thanks also for every advice and hopefully I can get a job soon 🙏
