Hiyah,
I've been interviewing and training with a company since March, I got an offer email 2 weeks ago and it said that I was starting on the 7th, so I went ahead and quit my part time job as a waitress so it gives me a week to rest before starting full time.

I just got an email today saying that the start date is now the 21st November which is now in 3 weeks meaning that I won't get paid until January when I start.

I have no savings and deep in my overdraft so I'm kind of panicking as my final pay check won't stretch across 2 months as it was a minimum wage job whilst waiting for this jobs response.

Would it be unprofessional to ask them to bring the start date forward even though they've said the start date of the 21st of November is because they haven't had any offers approved yet.

It would not be unprofessional to ask for some clarification on why they changed their minds, no, and to explain that it materially affected your life

Also, what is this situation where you've been doing training for a company for free, and are going to work for them for five weeks without getting paid?

When I applied it was under the intention that they pay for me to train for 13 weeks, then they interview me and potentially offer me a job which they did through CFG which is how I applied for the company.

And because I was doing this training with them I couldnt apply for any other Grad roles because they were essentially paying for me to be trained

The email I sent:

and The email I got back said:

The start date will now be 21st November. I hope this works for you.

I'm unsure of how to reply as I'm kind of in an internal panick and theres no grad roles starting till January if I wait too long they'll be gone

People are saying to go somewhere else and that I shouldn't have quit without an official offer letter, but I didn't understand how it works because I'm a grad and was sent an email offering me a job and I just kind of feel lost and stuck, I wish there was more guidance with the process of a job coming out of uni

Why can't you apply for other roles while you're training? Is it part of a contract you signed?

I mean you simply need to express that the start date originally agreed upon is when you need to start
