Hey guys, I'm looking to get some input on my salary negotiation email I'm sending to my recruiter as this is the first time I'm doing something like this. This is a returning offer from my internship for a New Grad position. Base salary given initially was 75kCAD and I'm asking for 85K.

Dear Recruiter,

I would like to first reaffirm my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to join the firm as a full-time graduate after the completion of my studies ! My time at Company during my internship this summer was definitely one of the best professional experiences I've had so far in my career. I've had the chance to grow both personally and professionally with an amazing team and I'm very excited at the possibility of coming back !

Before I can formally accept the proposal, I would like to discuss base salary.
With my experience in Software development acquired over my different internships and academic projects, specifically at Company, I know I will bring great value to the team. Because of this experience, I was really looking for an offer with a base salary closer to $85,000.

I am still very excited about the offer and would love to talk about the possibility of moving my starting wage closer to this number.

I am open to bridging the pay gap through alternative means.

Best Regards,
Me

Negotiation is best from position of having competing offers. If they didn't offer 85k what would you do. With competing offers you would just decline

Come off stronger and don't offer to bridge the gap. 10k is nothing

you dont have any room to negotiate without leveraging another offer. what are you gonna say, no? they are most likely going to say no too

Looks fine, I'd remove the hedge word and just say you're looking for 85, not closer to 85. They'll probably still come in between 75 and 85, my guess would be 82.
