#Best way to find smaller companies and startups near me?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Or literally google for whatever you wanna search for lol
that doesnt really work for me
Why is that
doesnt show me startups near me
Like what exactly are you googling
startups near me
And what exactly are you getting back
Because I got suggested a website called angelco
companies with startup in their name lol
Which seems to be a search engine of some sort
Man no offense , you have to be better at googling lol
Like come on lol
2nd link that came up for me
Is it not a website that fits your needs?
How so?
i never get responses from any company i apply to there
You mentioned only one site, LinkedIn, so I’m going off of that
Do you go to their company website?
And apply there
If not , then there’s your problem
yes
i do that and angelco
Like why does that make it not “work for you” because the company doesn’t respond to your resume
well angelco might not be showing all the companies near me
? I’m confused ?
How would you check that
Because by your logic, any search engine is not trustable
Like I don’t look on LinkedIn and assume they aren’t showing me all companies near me , I trust that one of the largest job search engines is the best source of jobs
But you for some reason just don’t trust the search engine
So then what would you trust ?
This entire thing breaks down quickly
when did i say i dont trust the search engine
im just saying i dont have much luck with angelco lol
im just trying to find other ways to find smaller companies than just angelco
LinkedIn and Angelco are search engines for jobs
I’m saying , you’re logic is you think they aren’t showing you all companies near you
Which is weird because , that’s their whole gig
Like what other source would you use
linkedin kind of sucks for finding jobs sometimes because they keep showing companies you have applied to
Untrue
and i am using the NOT search thing
It’s a search enginee
Literally just search
It literally shows you whatever you search for
Like I have personally not seen this behavior at all
If I search for a role I can usually scroll for a while on LinkedIn
But I admit it might be because we are searching for different things
Idk what you’re personally looking for
But nonetheless the main job boards are ones you already know of
i guess i will try angelco again
It would make logical sense to assume any company that wants SWEs , will post their role on one of the major job boards
LinkedIn , indeed, etc
but wouldnt applying on the ocmpany site be better than through angelco
Yes
It’s a search engine
It’s not the place to apply for the role imo
Same with LinkedIn
for linkedin its hard though because usually you see a lot more of the bigger companies
it is hard for especially startups
at least in my experience
maybe its because of the city im in
Man
All my jobs I’ve gotten from LinkedIn personally
Companies of varying sizes
I also never looked in just one city , usually changed the state everytime I looked
i think all my interviews come from linkedin but only big companies
But we might be searching different things
i dont find small companies on there often
What’s a “small company” though
i look for all of texas
Like what does that mean to you
not just the city im in
startups mostly
Because my first jobs have been about 500 people
What defines a startup to you
My first job they IPO’d while I was there
But I wouldn’t call them a startup
So like I think the issue is whatever you search for on LinkedIn
i guess im thinking of less than 100 people
But idk what you search for
Okay I’ve interviewed for roles at companies like that
And I found their job posting on LinkedIn
You can even filter by number of employees
If I remember correctly
I’m unable to check atm
But nonetheless
What are you searching for exactly
Like on LinkedIn
i just search for software engineering jobs and sometimes i do under 10 applicants since lesser known companies would have less applicants
theres isnt a way to filter by size so not much else i can do
I mean software engineering is a pretty vague search term
I mean if that’s what you wanna do
I don’t see why you wouldnt search for that
or just Java
Java engineer
Whatever
But software engineering still brought up a lot of roles
When I just quick searched
I mean i asked “what exactly do you search”
So I was hoping you say exactly what you search so I can check it out
But yeah doesn’t seem to be a way to filter based on number of employees darn
usually just software engineer and i put not for companies that flood my job search and i search either in my city or in my state
but i will try java engineer instead of software engineer
I mean wait
So when you search software engineer
What exactly do you dislike about those results?
usually i see jobs or companies i already applied for
That’s interesting
