So I'm going to university and I have chosen to do Computer Science (Game development) Bsc. Thats the actual name. I don't know if this is the right path though. I don't have a choice but to go to university for personal reasons and I don't mind. I chose to learn game development for these reasons: 1. I'm a creative person (I'm an artist) 2. I want to get into the tech industry. 3. I love games and I know so much about the development of games. 4. I like programming (even though I'm not so good at it). I'm just wondering if I'm choosing the right course. Here is a link to the actual course, the other universities offer something similar. I'm choosing this specific one as I think I can get away with computer science if I choose not to do game development in the future. https://www.brighton.ac.uk/courses/study/computer-science-for-games-bsc-hons.aspx

I don’t understand your issue or question
are you just asking if it’s a good program? No one can really tell unless you take it
I said "I'm just wondering if I'm choosing the right course"
why are you second guessing what you want to do
If you want to be a game dev then go to school for it

Just wanted to see if someone had a suggestion but thanks for the reassuring comment
Also programs at school don’t matter too much
idk how EU uni is tho
but if you can do well, and learn what you need to learn, you’ll be fine
thank you. There are so many people saying different things about university, careers, course choice. It gets confusing sometimes. Makes me feel like i'm doing something wrong but I guess not
if you
- enjoy the school
- enjoy the program
- get something out of the program
i think it’s worthwhile
don’t do something you don’t enjoy
“Ah I really hate making games at school” isn’t really going to translate well to “oh in the future I will love making games”
The only caveat I'd give is that game development is generally a competitive field, and so I'd make sure that you're prepared to do other software jobs in the future too, in case that ends up being a thing you want to do
That program looks like it covers a few of the important general things but misses a bunch of them as well, so it's basically only for game dev
You'll be better prepared for that than general cs graduates, but would probably find it difficult to get other software jobs
It's also worth noting that you don't need to know everything right now. Major changes are very common at university, so don't worry too much about it
Thank you @hazy blade @uneven veldt I really appreciate your help
if it doesnt work out dont be afraid to change majors / concentrations
I have come to a conclusion that I'm going to study just computer science and do game dev in my own time. That way I can add it to my portfolio. It will allow me to have a flexible portfolio, a flexible degree and a wider variety with my university choices. Thanks again!
Don’t think that when you go to school you are stuck in the major. If you inevitably want to do the game dev, feel free to ask your advisors
