Yoooo

Hello, thanks for joining this thread everyone! This is still just a experiment, but my fellow art organizers and I hope you enjoy and learn something out of this! You may already be familiar with Mooncake and their art, but theyโll be posting a few of their pieces for you to look at in advance of their interview.
Their interview will take place this <t:1677348000:F>, <t:1677348000:R>
After this, they will join the Stream Stage and take sketch requests while answering questions from the community! Do you have a question for Mooncake? Please enter it in this form:
https://forms.gle/DCXQjMC8JRmy248Y7
Then right after, we will ask you guys to nominate another artist from the community for the next Artist Spotlight!

Spotlight Artist - Mooncake!
Who's hyped for the spotlight tomorrow? ~~I'm not nervous at all nope
~~
As promised, here are some pieces that I've done over the past few years! (I tried to pick ones that I haven't posted to this server before lol) Feel free to send any questions into the askbox above and I'll answer them on the sketch stream
Secret Santa 2020 for Ralf ๐บ (I've definitely posted this before but I just really like it hehe)
My piece for an art telephone game hosted by Aelia โ (2022)
Rohan Kishibe from Jojo (2021) ๐๏ธ
Apollo but he's wearing the Winter 2020 Capcom Cafe outfit โจ
Secret Santa 2021 for Micbot โ๏ธ
so tomorrow arrived Moon
what did he mean by this
dawn of the day
So first off we're politely asking you guys to pretend you cannot speak in this channel while the interview starts in the next 8 mins but feel free to use emoji reactions and as such
you can do whatever now tho!
hi Benji!
Spotlight Artist hype!
๐จ ๐ฆ ๐ณ ๐ฎ ๐ฃ๏ธ โ :yesyes:
Hello hello! Welcome to the interview everyone, thanks for tuning in!
Today I'll be your host and we'll be asking @autumn bloom, hello Mooncake!
As opposed to regular spotlights this will not have that much of a structure, as a matter of fact, we expect this segment to be rather small
I'll start by asking the important questions
Mooncake, how are you?
Doing alright! Little nervous but excited to chat art with everyone ๐
Wow me too! Art's such a beautiful thing. Being able to express yourself and show a piece of your mind to the world without having to mention a single thing.
And every artist needs a medium to express themselves with! What's your favorite art program Mooncake?
Yee that's why I love doing it, because I wanna be able to tell stories through my art
Currently I use Clip Studio Paint!
One of my favorite things about CSP is the huge Assets store. I spend a lot of time going through there and finding new brushes to use
Ohh nice, what brushes and assets are the ones you like using most?
This is a bit of a list so bear with me lol
Sketching: Sucream Pencil, 6pencil-soft
Line art: HiBi Pen, Ayeoops Everything Brush (this one's on Gumroad instead of the Assets store), Lying Pencil
Coloring: TPU Skin Brush, Lazy Brush, Colouring Paint
If anyone wants the links to these just lmk and I'll gladly drop them hehe
Oh that's great, I may check them out ๐
When did you start getting interested about becoming an artist?
So I've been drawing and doing artsy stuff all my life, but I didn't really get serious about digital art until 2020.
It was during the pandemic and we went into lockdown, and all my flatmates and friends had gone home, so I was alone in my flat with nothing to do lol
I'd also just finished submitting my final thesis so I had to find a new hobby and my tablet was right there soooo
That's awesome, do you have something to say for people who are interested and don't know where to start as artists?
(fun fact the stream should had started now I am very out of script)
Draw what you want to draw! It's definitely important to do studies, but it's so much easier to get the practice in if you're drawing something you enjoy
For me it was Ace Attorney art and now Jojo lmao
(Soz I talk a lot loll)
nah your good old host just had more questions as the conversation went on this is on me lol
So let's get back to it and talk influences
What are some other artists you look up to?
This is also gonna be a list ahah
Devin Elle Kurtz/Tamberella - Gorgeous painting, backgrounds, and use of lighting
Laquilasse - Amazing use of lines, movement, and expression (also Ace Attorney fan artist)
Gabriel Picolo - Super clean lines and I love how he tells stories through his illustrations
Kazuya Nuri - Official AA4 and TGAA artist, I just adore everything about his style
Senri Kita - FE 9 and 10 artist, she was one of my first influences when I first started drawing in anime style several years ago
Hirohiko Araki - Jojo mangaka, I also adore his style and he's a master at taking reference photos and turning them into something new in his own style
Does your own style borrow from these games? ๐
A bit from each! I try to learn a lot of things from Nuri, especially his muted coloring style and the way he still draws outlines but they kinda blend into the work
Also been studying a lot of Kurtz's work lately bc I really wanna be able to do nice backgrounds
backgrounds am I right lol
Bane of my existence
Ahaha
Well speaking of Nuri, one of my favorite pieces I've done is the TGAA Album Art I did last year
I was consciously trying to study his style here so I used a different line art brush than I normally do
(Also Kazuma my beloved ๐ )
Another of my favorite pieces is from 2021, it's a Rohan I drew using digital Copic brushes
I love the subtle shading in this one
There's that joke about how every new artist wanted Copics growing up, but then we all ended up doing digital art
Well digital Copics is the best of both worlds
to be real with ya I wasn't certain what they looked like until I searched them up, I do have black markers like this
(they can be rather hard to draw with lol)
Yea I've tried them out but they've got a learning curve for sure
(Maybe I'm just spoiled bc I have Ctrl+z lmao)
they were so real for this
anyway as the final question
Oh would you look at that, it's a bit related to how we ended the last one
What is your least favorite part of the art progress, as well as your favorite one?
Mentioned earlier, but backgrounds
I tend to want to put tons of details into my art, so it always takes me ages to get a background done. Also perspective is hard
...would you like to sketch me a background on the stream after this
Favorite is definitely sketching! It's the most freeing part of the process for me, and it's also fun to just doodle without worrying about having to line and color it after (Also a great way to practice drawing fast!)
Mayhaps, what did you have in mind ๐
Nothing really I was just messin with ya lmao
Anything else you wanna tell the audience before we "open the channel"?
Lmao well that's kinda related to what I was gonna announce anyways
I'm opening art commissions again! If u send coin I will draw u a background or anything else you wish! (Within reason of course lol)
(Alsooooo if you attend my art stream starting soon, I can add in a lil discount hehe
)
Awesome thanks for being around everyone ๐
(If you can afford it commission Mooncake please they're so talented)
channel is "opened" feel free to use it
nice
off to the stream stage we go yippie

Thanks for hosting Knux!! I had a lot of fun ๐
art progress
Yippee
That was a really nice spotlight, good job to you both! ๐
moons art is very cool
Yours is in the works Xav!
Very nice Spotlight โค๏ธ
I agree Imp
eyo?
I can show a lil preview of your comm before I start sketching if you want ๐
You won it in the Advent Calendar lmao

i'd like to see the preview if you want
ngl, i forgot about it since i was busy with exams lmao
Oh big same don't worry lmao
I won a piece (I think during bingo) by Mooncake once! I like it a lot and was wondering if I could share it here for the occasion ๐
i have no methods of paying for commissions yet unfortunately
It's simple but I'm really grateful for it :)
Geoff Keighley my beloved
What I really like about their art is the colours. I always feel they are vibrant and popping which is kind of unique. I especially noticed it when compared with other pieces during the art competitions we did in the past
It might also be because of the shading
I would charge stream notes
i'm broKE
I do honestly agree they're fantastic at coloring
it does stand out
https://forms.gle/nSk8fDZHPA6QyciP8
(vote for the next one please!)
I'll keep this thread open for like, one more week if anyone still wants to say anything or if there's some criticism towards the format you may wanna share
We're all ears
Check the pins for the start of the interview
I am so sad that I missed that
Awww Nick that's so sweet of you tyyy
I've never been super confident in my coloring skills so I'm really happy to hear this
Next time you gotta join for sure
hopefully
Hope you're doing well in Sploon thooo
Yes we indeed are
Mooncake is such a good artist I aspire to draw like mooncake
I wonder if they take commissions
they do
#self-promo message
If this is up to date, then they still have a commission slot open, yes ๐
Thanks!
Hi yes I still have one commission slot open!
Kay I will consider
