the galaxy movie is entertaining from start to finish, it is visually stunning, one of illuminations best looking movies

now with that said, there is a lot to discuss about this movie ||there is a few times where they dropped the ball and other times where they succeeded, and its very conflicting for me on the movie ||

The first movie felt like a hodgepodge of ideas from here and there and this and that, and it was fun, but this one had more of a connection between the events that happened. The narrative felt more connected than last time. I didn't find it hard at all to follow, and it wasn't too much of a slow burner nor an insane rush.

i have a few tiny small gripes with it, but ill go with the positives first

||Animation is great, mario and luigi are together for the whole movie, thats a positive, the music score is amazing||

||the character interactions given were a sight to see, it was fun to watch for the most part||

||negatives, the pacing is inconsistent, they crammed in way more than the 1st movie did, rosalina got shafted in dedicated screen time IN her own movie more than i wouldve liked, and for whats in store for the future as evident for the two post credits scenes, makes it look even worse or doesnt help its case of this couldve been done so much better||

||for something being called the Mario galaxy movie, Rosalina IS Mario Galaxy, shes part of what gives mario galaxy its own identity over other mario games, and what they did is different, but not what i had in mind, even for a sequel to the 2023 movie.||

in a sense ||its a literal sequel to the 2023 movie, being more of the same with marginal improvements||

||its not a bad movie if you are a big mario fan or a casual, but if you are looking for an actual structured movie with big payoffs that permanetly changes the outlook on these characters going forward to prove actions have consequences or these things matter, i dont exactly think this movie and the 2023 movie are what you're looking for exactly||

||its a pretty good popcorn family movie, and maybe thats what it needed to be, but some of the few writing decisions in this movie, and even in the past movie just baffle me as to why they went through with that||

||which is what i said earlier, im very conflicted on this movie, i cant really say a yes or no because im mixed on it||

but as it is, the mario movies are clearly doing their own thing, and thats not a bad thing to be fair

||but even with doing their own thing, a few things just rub me the wrong way, not a lot, as there is a bunch of good to be had to enjoy it, but its going to be hard to really ignore that the cracks in the armor are starting to show||

however, there is one thing that peeves me, and thats with the ||post credits scenes at the very end of the movie||

||for Fox, it was obvious a star fox movie tease, and im like ok, awesome, star fox movie, i like starfox, thats great||

||but thats not even the worse part, fox may be able to somewhat get away with it, because this movie suffered from a runtime that couldnt work with an ambitious movie like this. he might be able to get a better use later on ||

||what i DO have a problem with is they put Daisy in the 2nd post credit, her punching a monkey and showing up is the biggest elephant in the room, for not just this movie, but the 2023 movie too, and reveals a huge problem that was hidden for the mario movies||

||you mean to to tell me that you put in Daisy AFTER Rosalina when it shouldve been the other way around, and Rosalina got LESS screentime than Fox anyways. If they were gonna do daisy anyways, WHY did they just waste rosalina like this. that doesnt make any sense. and now they have a new problem to deal with in the next 3 years for the 3rd movie||

||because Peach has her thing, she has been criticized in the 1st movie, she was sorta semi addressed in this movie to have a bit more positive aspects, Rosalina exists now, but shes barely in her own movie to be kidnapped and saved, and now Daisy is in here last minute. im happy to see her, dont get me wrong, but the order in how they did it is just...no, that is going to cause more problems down the line. galaxy is this bombastic, daisy and everything that comes with her isnt really going to hit the same as rosalina and galaxy has tbh||

||its the luigi problem i had from the 1st movie with him getting captured, but now replace luigi with rosalina. and theres your issue with a different coat of paint. the pacing problems, the runtime and the unfairly inconsistent treatment on the cast for the sake of promoting future games is not gonna do them any favors in the future, financially sure, they will make money, its mario. but it shows that they both learned and didnt learn at the same time. and that is starting to pose a problem now and into the future.

i forgot to add but its clear that they want mario to become like mickey mouse and thats a bad thing for a lot of reasons, yes mario got movies and mickey never did, but it also is an omen to remember why mickey turned out that way. he was a victim of his own success, he suffered from it, innovation or great storytelling is rarely or never done, his own name is enough, they dont try. and this is also an illumination problem too yes, but both of them are gonna create safe successful movies in the future, but with none of the innovation or big risks to be more than that, or try to anyways, because they wont, and dont need to because maybe thats what they wanted all along, and that's not a good sign. ||

||oh my god yes! i love how they remembered the red star power up from galaxy 1 and mario used it in the movie! that was my favorite power up from galaxy 1 and its so underutilized! im so happy they used it! and mr game and watch is here too because luigi created him, i mean ok, thats a new one. same goes for peach rosalina sister thing with their power. that is also really weird too that is very questionable, especially when you consider where this leaves daisy in her purpose since shes a stranger for the inevitable 3rd movie. ill give them credit where its due at times, it is still a fun movie, a weird and crazy all over the place one in aspects that i do criticize, but it can be fun, but its very conflicting.

also having the sonic 4 movie teaser play right before this movie is freaking hilarious, they knew, that has to be a somewhat playful jab like that 90s sega vs nintendo thing, that was great lmao||

||I do admit making Rosalina the damsel in distress was kinda lame ngl. She doesnā€™t do anything for the rest of the movie besides the cool action scene at the very beginning and then she just becomes the Luigi of the first movie but even less relevant somehow||

But yeah, after watching the movie
You bring up a lot of good points about whatā€™s good and whatā€™s bad in it. Not necessarily one to think too hard on, but still good and fun when you turn your brain off. Small hidden details are scattered in like Mario and Luigi having sand still on their clothes after returning from the desert, Kamek smacking his wand when it seems to malfunction in the background, etc.
Then thereā€™s some other cool stuff I really liked: I honestly was touched by ||how strong Bowser and Bowser Jrā€™s relationship was as father and son. Like, it was honestly so wholesome how much they bonded, I couldnā€™t help but root for them at times even though they were plotting the death of the universe lmao||. I also liked how the animation style changed every now and then, such as ||when they did a rapid summary of Star Fox (which HOLY FUCK UUUGGGGHHHHH Iā€™M GOING TO BE SUCH A PROBLEM ABOUT HIM), and then the 2D pixel sprites as well||. And how could I forgetā€¦the SOUNDTRACK. I need it. Nowwwwwww

||that, and the contrasts is kinda flipped compared to how they were contrasted in the games, granted they are different, but its kinda..not as distinct enough as i wouldve liked. game peach has her sweetness, daisy is more daring in her voice and attitude, and rosalina has a wise, quiet voice yet earnest. in the movies, that isnt really quite the exact case and it throws me off||

||peach and rosalina being made of stardust, oh so essentially, they arent humans, or naturally born humans, why did she not tell mario a simple no back in the 1st movie when he suggested that peach was from brooklyn, but nope. gotta be cryptic to lead to this, and well, we got it. and uh...yeeeaa, im just baffled and confused if anything, and mildly interested too||

||Daisy in the movies wasn't always a princess from sarasaland, she didnt start out this way, luigi mentioned a girl named destiny del vecchio from high school in the 1st movie, but hear me out, Daisy IS that same girl but now older, she used to be from brooklyn like the brothers but ended up finding a warp pipe and ended up in sarasaland, and became ruler, she got the name princess daisy as a nickname for her daisy earrings or her love for daisies, and went with it. luigi and daisy can find out and remember their history from their high school days, and make up for lost time and be a retroactive payoff to that one throwaway line that luigi said from the 1st movie. its also a nice callback to the 1993 movie where princess daisy was from the human world, it was a mistake made from that movie, but it can become a plot point in the next one||

||so i gave the whole peach and rosalina thing familial relationship some time to think, i didnt like it at first given how the games established things, until i remembered that Mario Galaxy 1 had cut content of how Rosalina and Peach were supposed to be related in Galaxy 1, but that got scrapped and rosalina's entire designed look ended up being a leftover from that scrapped idea that just stuck around and created the entire weird questioning of why Rosalina and Peach look almost identical. ||

||it would appear that nintendo and illumination mightve went back and revived that scrapped idea to be reused in this movie for their version of the characters, and that is possibly why rosalinas entire backstory was completely altered in the galaxy movie, contrasting very differently with game Rosalina, this also did the same to Peach too in that regard.

I guess i shouldve seen this coming, the signs were there since the previous movie, and since Mario and Luigi are rewritten different from their game selves to be back as ordinary plumbers from brooklyn, new york again, yeah..not sure on how to feel with this.||

||and if they eventually bring in toadette, i bet she will be energetic, cheery, and charismatic to mirror captain toads personality in these movies. have a part time job or hobby to help him like in the treasure tracker game, and as cringe as this may sound, i guess they could bring in peachette and the super crown, but do it in a way to where she acts more like game peach, and its like guisseppe from brooklyn from the 1st mario movie, where the game versions personalities survive in other characters to coexist with the movie versions. ||

||heck, she might even hangout with daisy and the mario brothers for a picnic or eat out at a pizzeria in new york, who knows. its not as crazy as fox mccloud. pikmin, rob, little mac or mr.game and watch just being here at all. so eh, why not, might as well go full on nintendo brainrot fun that will make everyone point at the screen for the future movies. ||

yeah, overall the movie has great animation and music but does have certain flaws that are more noticable this time around that brings it down a bit for me- ||HOLY SHI- THEY REFERENCED THE SMASH MELEE VERSION OF CORNERIA IN THE MUSIC!||

I thought the movie was a lot of fun overall.
||Especially laughed at the accurate representation of ROB's movement and Luigi's "it died". And I actually felt very surprised and hyped when Mr Game & Watch used the level 9 judgement hammer on Bowser.||
||Fox was absolutely one of my favorite parts of the movie, you wouldn't expect him to be in a Mario movie, but he was pretty awesome. And they even left a potential setup for a StarFox movie. I haven't played StarFox 64 on the NSO yet, but I might now.||
One of my gripes though is that ||Rosalina got sidelined for most of the movie despite being pretty advertised. Think it would've been better if Bowser Jr. just took Rosalina along with him to get Peach's castle and then save the reveal of World Bowser for after the father and son reunite. It wouldnt change much, but it would give Rosalina just a bit more screentime.||

||the whole rosalina get captured thing stings worse when this is titled as the galaxy movie, the game where rosalina came from, and she gets sidelined in her own movie, this is even worse when luigi got captured in the mario bros movie, but atleast both brothers got to work together to beat bowser in that movies finale, that was way more entertaining than peach and rosalina just magically fix things by the end to be honest. not exactly a fan of that||

on top of that, ||it also creates a very weird contrast because Rosalina and Peach have been changed for the movies to be powerful magical space sisters created from stardust, while mario and luigi are hard working plumbers from brooklyn that grew to be superhuman capable heroes in overalls with a dinosaur companion like yoshi. so where the hell does that even leave daisy with for the inevitable third movie besides being an obvious interest to luigi, especially when they are bringing her in this late into the series, if you ask me, i think they kinda shot themselves in the foot for rushing to do galaxy if they were going to go for a trilogy anyways. thats a big gripe i have for the implications it brings. tbh

on a positive note, aside from 1 licensed song used, its thankfully all composed music for the majority of the movie, and it carries the entire movie, thats the biggest highlight praise i can give besides the fanservice references and callbacks||

oh yea, one more thing, in my personal opinion, ||Daisy punching the monkey in the post credits scene didnt really leave me excited as much as i couldve been after what the galaxy movie did with peach and rosalina and the rest of the madness inbetween, it wouldve been a little bit better if it was Wario that punched that monkey, getting thanked for that, and he just shrugs because he hardly cares that much, the monkey was in his way and treasure is his goal ||

||atleast that would be more interesting enough since wario is naturally a jerk and it would be in character for him to do that, now THAT wouldve rejuvinated interest back for the inevitable third movie imo||

||the sonic movies may have flaws but they knew to try and were smart about this with their post credits scenes, bringing in tails, shadow, and amy to generate hype ontop of really well done movies that keep on improving gradually, take in criticism and take it to heart. that is admirable, its how they got saved after the ugly sonic disaster, this philosophy is now baked into the dna and it paid off in spades. the mario movies shouldve followed their example after having potential from the 1st movie to get a really good redemption arc after the 1993 mario movie tbh||

I watched the movie with some friends and it was good overall. ||Lots of funny moments, especially with Bowser and Yoshi. The callbacks to other Nintendo characters was also pretty nice. I loved the Star Fox references. All the Mario references were also pretty good. Animations were done great. There were a lot more fights in this movie, but it was still entertaining.

Regarding Rosalina lacking screen time, it sucks but I didn't think it was too big a deal. Rosalina didn't play too big a role in the Galaxy games, outside of guiding Mario to Bowser and being a mother of Lumas. And the movie reflected that. Her fight in the prologue was epic, but it feels like Nintendo didn't know what else to do with this character, so they let her get kidnapped. At least they've confirmed now she's Peach's older sister. I don't remember them confirming that connection in the Galaxy games.

And I personally don't bat an eye on them being cosmic beings with superpowers. It's a Mario movie. They never explain this stuff.||

||Nah, I think she'll still appear in the next Mario movie, if they make another one like that. After all, she reunited with Peach, just like Bowser reunited with his son. I don't think it's a one and done deal. DK and Pauline didn't appear in this movie, but they could have a movie of their own soon. They could have Peach and Rosalina fight together in the next movie, which will probably set place in Sarasaland. Besides, Rosalina could also cameo in other space-related Nintendo movies.||

||ah i think i know why, rosalina defeated bowser jr in the start. shes naturally way too strong and there would be no movie. so she had to be kidnapped to allow for everyone and peach to save her. now with daisy being here, maybe they can let peach get captured to give daisy, luigi, and mario, even rosalina to go after her to save her. maybe tatanga and wario got her by accident instead of daisy||

||its a similar plot issue like superman being quite strong but can be harmful to a movie to needing a simple goal to work for a movie, so they either nerf them, give them a reason to not help, or in this case, kidnap and hold rosalina hostage||

||i mean it would be some kind of payoff, luigi got captured in movie 1. rosalina got captured in movie 2. and since she is a sister with a similar potential, peach getting captured in movie 3, plus wario cant die or refuses to die and he can be a hard foe to beat, he wont go down without a fight with anyone, so that could allow for great conflict against mario and luigi or rosalina and yoshi, while tatanga deals with daisy ||

but thats wishful thinking on my part, ||who really knows at all on how they will deal with the 3rd movie after daisy is confirmed to exist. i guess we'll see in the next 3 years or so.||

with everything that i needed to get off my chest now, after two movies in, with tons of ways they can take this going forward. as a true, personal final thoughts on it ||i mean it was fun for what it was as a 98 minute long movie in the moment, gripes, criticisms, appreciations, and all that overall, but afterwards, i mean its uh....its kinda, sorta like... yea, it exists and did its job, and more will probably exist going forward in the near future, whether you do love that kind of fact or really dont like it at all, it honestly depends on who you ask at the end of the day ||

my personal expectation going in was maybe not expecting something super deep or convoluted but i did like what the 1st movie was trying to do with its barebones plot structure, and it couldve be improved more for the sequel.

||apparently that was still asking for too much with miyamoto being a co-directing because he has been notorious to not really caring about stories, mario galaxy 1 even got its story by going behind his back to be snuck in. and that probably will never happen again, unfortunately||

||i guess cause with movies, i have a different kind of expectation for things that contrast heavily for when a game does it. so naturally, there couldve been something a bit more to how things go, atleast have a really good flow to it, but i did remember this is a nintendo AND illumination movie, and giving them the benefit of the doubt was a fools errand anyways, because this idea is not really in their best interests.

it was still mindless fun at the end of the day, but the lack of any standard three act structure that you would normally find in films being absent here is very noticable if you start to give it a thought for more than a minute.||

Yeah, Miyamoto is notorious for only caring about the gameplay feel. Even developers said he'd pick up their game and do only one thing in the game for hours. The plot in modern Paper Mario games suffered from decisions made by Miyamoto. As a result, I set my expectations low when it comes to movie plots if Miyamoto is in charge. He seems to care only about referencing Mario games and other franchises, so I only watch the movie for that and nothing else.

It's okay. There will always be more movies, and ones co-directed by Miyamoto. One movie I am concerned about, however, is the Zelda movie. Zelda is a story-driven franchise about dark fantasies. I just hope they nail the feel right for the movie, aside from giving references to all past Zelda games.

oh yeah, Illumination is also a studio known to make comedy animated movies, so it's no surprise that the Mario movies had funny moments. I think watching the Galaxy movie with friends helped for me to see it as a descent movie, because we were laughing a lot

But i always have issues with films that are longer than 3 hours, its simply due to the runtime. Movies that tend to be longer than 3 hours usually have good writting and overall presentation.

I did also find certain moments in the movie to be overdramatic:
||ā€¢ Bowser having compassion towards Mario and especially Luigi because he enjoyed being part of a book club and then his son changing his mind to the point he fights Mario and Peach at the end even though he confessed his love for Peach||
||ā€¢ Peach and Rosalina touching their hands together and turning Bowser Junior's planet into a flower field||

The movie also had a few continuity errors:
||ā€¢ The Comet Observatory being damaged after the fight in the prologue, but then looking pristine when the Mario crew finds it||
||ā€¢ When Peach's Castle fell, Mario and Luigi continued to run around in it, when physics tells us that they should be suspended in the air when free falling||

||he is oddly being flip floppy of being a evil trickster to become big by faking to look like he has a change of heart, then willing to help and be some kind of anti-hero role which could have still be a decent manipulation trick, then he actually sacrifices himself to let the brothers go, then he goes evil when junior calls friends meaningless, then he is fine with wanting to kill mario and peach, even tho he did have some kind of relationship with them to atleast shouldve still bothered to care a bit, then he suddenly stops wanting to completely kill mario after he rescued junior from the rogue dragon, and he just gets arrested with junior.

the movie cant seem to make up its mind on where they want to go with bowsers character. and what was left is: is he completely an irredeemable guy, is he someone that will try to make the best out of a bad situation, is he wanting to turn over a new leaf, or care for his son full time after the constant neglect? it is very odd to me ||

||If you start analysing the movie's plot, you'll notice a lot of plot holes. To me, this comes as no surprise, because it's a kid's movie and the producers of the movie wanted to portray the good guys having good luck and the bad guys having bad luck. A lot of what was shown in the movie was predictable too, like Bowser turning into Dry Bowser, even though they made it overdramatic with Bowser Jr. grieving his father. I personally enjoyed the movie when I stopped caring about these plot holes and instead laughed at them and marvelled at the beautiful scenery they made for the movie. Of course, that's only my experience of it.||

||If you want good movie plots, the Mario movies are not where you should look. I'd say the movie was a good adaptation of the Mario games, in that it portrays the fun part of the Mario games, but also the frustrating part of the plot being shallow and full of nonsense.||

the 2nd movie on the other hand ||went for a different approach with peach and rosalina that, im sorry to say but, that didnt have an engaging enough done hook or even a payoff as done well in comparison to mario and luigi's dynamic, the brothers is more organic and believable, but peach and rosalinas was forced and rushed in the way they did it to go from point A to point B, that and its way more unfocused than the previous one.||

Mario took a lot skill and effort needed alongside everyones help to get luigi back to return him back to brooklyn, because he has a good reason to enter the kingdoms.

in this movie however,|| peach had no reason to get rosalina yet until a luma told her about her existence, then she went off to go find her and leave the mario brothers to handle the kingdom which is...kinda irresponsible for her to do that to be honest, i think toadette wouldve been a better choice to handle the kingdom while she was gone, but shes not even in these movies yet.||

But I can hardly complain about the latter when ||FOX MCCLOUD IS HERE AND HE IS PERFECT AND IT SOMEHOW MADE A LITTLE MORE SENSE THAN I EXPECTED AND THEN THEY HAD THE ONE SCENE WITH THE LUMAS BASICALLY DOING SMASH BROS AND THE ONE FLOATING AROUND LIKE KIRBY WAS SO ADORABLE AND THEN AT THE FINALE (which--huff--yeah--wheeze--was rushed even by this movie's standards) THE LUMAS MADE A LITERAL "STAR FOX" TEAM AND OF COURSE REFERENCED THE BARREL ROLL MEME AND THEN LUIGI SPAWNED A MR GAME AND WATCH AND HOLY HECK BOWSER JR SUMMONED THE RUINED DRAGON MY JAW WAS LITERALLY ON THE FLOOR||

everybody are unsure on what will be the name of the ||inevitable third mario movie that they will go with, Mario Odyssey Movie, Mario Wonder Movie, Mario Land movie, Mario Sunshine Movie, but those names dont roll off the tongue the best in terms of a catchy name that flows, and they were all referenced in the galaxy movie already to be pretty hard to get excited of where to go from here||

but then an insane thought hit me that ||they will miraculously pick something so outlandish as a name yet does flow off the tongue, i predict that they will call the 3rd movie as The New Super Mario Bros Movie to bring in the success of the new super mario bros games being successful alongside wonder. This time, now bringing some of the returning cast from the past two movies, but add daisy, tatanga, wario and the wario land game characters, maybe waluigi, toadette, peachette, nabbit, the koopalings, Captain Syrup, and the obscure characters from Warios Woods (NES and SNES), and throw in a new character to promote an upcoming 2030 nintendo game as well like they did with DK and Fox, keeping the fast pace from the past two movies, and call it a day,||
