#Miscellaneous MMORPGs

I've briefly considered it, but Mabinogi has my time. Again.
Bluh I have played so many MMOs, ask me anything
You know any good obscure ones (ideally that are somehow still kicking)?
Phew, obscure and still kicking without any catches on it is hard to get
I wouldn't call it obscure, but I did play Guild Wars 2 way past its prime back then, not sure if it still has the same charm
Yep, seems to be updated still
Ah, that seems cool
(Truth be told I don't play very many MMOs, I'm just tryna kickstart some talks lol)
ToonTown was my jam growing up tho
It has been lost to the sands of time but lives on in various fan servers
Rewritten being chief among them
I occasionally hop on there
As a teen I played 4Story lol
I have like ten years on classic WoW (up to WotlK)
Played a lot of TERA when it was not free to play around like the 2010s (?)
Too bad f2p absolutely killed it for me. Lots of not-so-cool people coming in and priorities shifting towards them.
Considering MMOs, I am an absolute depressed player lol. I had been delighted by the announcement of WoW Classic for example, but truth be told, it was not good. The content was the same, but the mindset was not. Back when it first aired, people did not min-max just about everything. Guide for this, guide for that. A battleground match was about 60 minutes+ of fighting and doing objectives. Then in Classic it was just "Rush B and end early" and if you did anything else, you were basically useless.
I have also played AION and Blade & Soul, which both have interesting mechanics.
And a bit of Ragnarok Online when I was a teen
Ragnarok Online absolute best spritework
Cute
To be honest, perhaps this is even the ideal answer to your question, @half schooner
That do be some nice spritework tho
Looked it up, Aion is effectively dead, but the designs were quite pleasant. It was pretty much all about the wings, lmao.
What I found unique is that upon death you dropped EXP.
@topaz apex I thought you might appreciate an MMO Thread
aion is wing fashion with scuffed combat and pvp in the air - also scuffed gliding.
still, i liked it at first, when not that much MMOs were present.
sadly not many ppl wanted to play it longterm
it was basically what ff14 is today, but older and more scuffed of course
Yeah
It was a little bit of a chore to level though
Especially when you started late and PvP made you lose the EXP lmao
Yeah, if I lost EXP every time I died, I'd be wary to continue, too
Especially if it's to a persistent opponent intent on making the game miserable.
Which is why PVP should be consensual for most MMOs, imo
PvP is rather important for me, but I suppose that depends entirely on the game's structure
FF14 for example had no PvP at all and it kinda worked
Blade & Soul was also PVE in the overworld but had dedicated arenas
FF14 now has pvp thats
surprisingly to say
very fun by now
only took 4 reworks lol
in original FF14 and FF11, you also lost experience every time you died
which was especially bad in those games since experience was something that was kinda hard to come by, especially in original (burned to the ground) 1.0 FF14
They brought that back in a instanced area - that is designed to be a bit harder. You have a unique area-specific level though - and you only lost your elemental XP when a player doesnt revive you and you have to teleport back to the spawnpoint by yourself
In FF11, you could also level down if you fall below the treshhold of your current level because of it
however, that game worked, lol
