#LMS black 5

Black 5 is a chad. But where is my Jubilee?
Heck yeah
Eventually™
Just paint it red :p
Not even close.
MECHANICAL DIFFERENCES
Black 5: 2Cyl
Jubilee: 3cyl
The great classic
Now that the 8F has been released, maybe the Black Five might get some love.
Plus the Black 5 has 6 ft drivers as well as 18.5 by 28 cylinders compared to the Jubilee with its 6'9" drivers and 20 by 26 cylinders.

he's black and he's five
he's the black five
This would be cool for the LMS bunch :)
a black 5 is on my "todo" list, i do have a model, but its a bit too low poly for DV, so it would require quite significant changes
as it stands my goal is the Fowler 4F next, ill see how my motivation is for a partial remodel of the black 5 to make it up to standard
Dare I ask if you plan to complete the line up with a coronation class?
One of the most underrated locomotives in British railway history (the 4F)
while i have a model of the coronations, im not entirly sure if its worth all the effort to put it into DV, with the loco being an express passenger loco in a game majority about freight
True, but the Pax mod is pretty great, and who doesn’t want freight rolling at 100mph
In defense of the Coronation's, they have a 4 cylinder simple setup to deliver 3,000-3,300 horsepower. It might actually do good as a light-medium duty fast freight engine as well.
...the coronations have 3k horsepower?
I mean they could reach speeds of 183kmh, and were expected to pull 20, 40-ton coaches.
I’d say that checks
ah i see
Probably something new i learned
well
I THought that a engine's HP would be universal to what it could do
right?
if a Passenger engine or a Freight engine had a high HP it didn't really matter if they were pulling freight or passenger
i seeee
To put it simply HP doesn’t really matter if it can’t pull it.
or if it doesn’t have the tractive effort to pull it.
For example by “techinally” the Black 5 is more practical to pull a “large” amount of coaches due to its sheer tractive effort. though it won’t be able to do it fast due to it’s HP.
It’s also why the SH282 can “seem” to pull more then a DE6 until it reaches a gradient
they would be heavy work, designed to pull the 500t royal scot set from London to Glasgow
the reason im not set on it, is their heavy passenger focus, and with the scale and speed limits of the map, its main advantage would be heavily lost
im going to be focusing on the freight and mixed traffic designs over express designs like the coronation
So Black 5 and then to the Red Stanier's?
.
Bumping this
well my black 5 model went from "low poly" to "oh jesus" out of scale
the 4f is in progress, (re) texture is ongoing,
any black 5 model for me will need to be a remodel and will take some time to be done
Yikes
for context, i finally got actual diagrams for it rather than the "less than perfect" 'Roche' drawings i had previously
its come out the loco is not only over 2 ft too long but too high, with a far too large boiler, add ontop just about everything else that was horrifically inaccurate
im hoping it will be this year atleast i can get it remastered for DV
Fair enough.
I gotta say that at least to me, Emerald’s 8f is the best modded loco I’ve ever tried: everything works and feels streamlined and it looks awesome without tanking fps
So I’m so excited for the 4f and the eventual Black 5
Black five balling
Bumping
ill let you know my plan then.
the idea is to finish the BR standard 2 im doing
then work on both the Stanier Mogul and the Black 5 at the same time

how is this supposed to work 😭⁉️
? i just split my time modelling between the two depending on what one i have motivation for at that moment
