#animated brake shoes

Because I’m on a giant 60” at 4k and I’d like the immersion. Plus it’s nice to know when my brakes release if I’m looking at it from outside.
Still
Irl brake shoes are either against or just millimeters away from the wheels and they don’t actually move notably, they just increase pressure
You can compare it to a chair
If the chair just sits there, it touches the floor. If you sit on it, you increase the pressure to the ground but the chair doesn’t actually move
at most it will sink into the ground a few nanometers
Still I’d like to visibly see it. We have all the arms for them to move and the visual stuff, it would be nice to see them move again. Plus I also can’t hear them release when I release them. Use to take a couple seconds after release and you’d hear all the cars hiss before moving.
The sound might be added as part of fp4, and as I already said the brake rigging doesn’t actually move, but the brake cylinder increases pressure to the brakes
If it's for realism, it's more realistic as-is because you litterally cannot see the difference
You hear it sometimes but you don't see it. We kick against the brake shoes to check if they're loose for a reason
I thought this was mod suggestions. I suggested a mod that I miss seeing, has the parts to move, and my suggestion is just being kicked down lol. Couple month ago others woulda been like “ hey that’s a good idea, immersion hell yea.” I’m gunna notice it because that’s me. I look for little things like that and it keeps me playing. I enjoyed walking the train. Checking the breaks, hearing them.
So dramatic
… not really. I just don’t understand communities anymore. Everyone kicks each other down anymore. It’s mod suggestion right? I suggested a mod, and instead i get told “for what? You won’t notice it, it’s pointless.” if I wouldn’t notice it I wouldn’t have recommended a mod. All I asked was for animated shoes to be brought back from the brake mod.
Brakes shoes irl aren’t animated
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm4LXmumR9s I think this is what is wanted here, and if this kind of thing was easily noticable, I would support, but Imma just say it is meh. Toasty brakes are nice as is
Heavy braking from 130 km/h (80 mph) to 60 and 0 km/h.

What exactly would be animated then, the sparks?
I mean, the shoe does move anoticeable amount here, but from the locomotive? or thrid person? it makes no sense.
Those brakes are waaay too lose
I guess you could say it's realistic because well it happens irl but it's not supposed to
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTGimWF041g Here is another instance of being able to see the brakes move, but again, at the distances you would be seeing them, not disproving or proving nything, but this one brings up an optinal idea that would be fun to see in game lol
Heavy braking with cast iron brake blocks

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uBBw_NuUrOo Here is one that isnt unbelievably loose
So the part that would be animated is when they get released?
Dont see the point still
I mean, you can see the application, but neither makes sense to animate, yea
I would like to see something sismilar to the second video in-game tho lol
You suggested a mod, yes. But you can't say it's for realism if the realism means you can't see it.
You want an overexaggeration of how a brake works
This is a very realistic video. This is how it should behave
A good one for people to guess: is this applied or is it loose?
Loose?
oh shit lol
That carriage can't move anyways, there's a buffer to the left and a buffer to the right
So a very good case of: you can't know without the kick
They should add a stick to poke or kick option! They can animate a brake getting checked. Makes brake checking realistic it's pretty cool
What could be noticeable, is the brake cylinder extending / retracting. That's another way to check the brakes.
And that could be useful when assembling long consists. To know when the brake pipe has charged, after releasing brakes with remote control

brake cylinder status is easily visible there. Idk if the type of brake cylinders in DV would have this much travel
The terminal brake test (of which, there are many flavors depending on your railroad and operation) is an incredibly important part of railroad operations. Let's take a 1st person view at how it's done here at the @crrm .

I just want the shoes to go from where it is now (visibly not touching the wheel) to touching the wheels when I apply brakes. That’s it. When I do my walk I second guess myself if I had breaks on or not because to me they look released. I’m not trying to disconnect or walk back to the cab to see if light is blinking. I want to look at the shoes and see they closed.
Sometimes it depends on how the brake blocks are adjusted. They could be far enough away where the application could be obvious at a glance. I know a couple examples I've seen in person.
Besides, I check the brake cylinder to see if the brakes are applied.
And if I can't see the cylinder, I give the blocks a kick. If I can move them, they are not applied. If I can't, they are.
