#Multiple-Unit

nice
It's nice that the warnings will be on all locos. So I can know how badly I'm thrashing the 2nd DE6.
The cables look so much smoother as well
holy shit is everything in this update just better
is there RC multiple-unit as well?
So called DPU (distributed power unit) - not yet, should be added at some point after Simulator
Alright thx
Niiiice
This is nice... but, are we gonna be able to put a train for example at the very back of the whole composition and somehow control it?
See my reply above
Until DPU is in, there's also the remote controller from before. A bit less convenient but can do the job
We've seen them already in earlier vids, but I'm really liking those multiple colors for gondolas
Are MU connecters only on selected locomotive types or are they on every car?
I think it's on the DEs and the DH4
It could be an interesting choice to not give the DH4 an MU connector.
Their real life counterparts cant be driven in unit and it would give the DE2 more use besides shunting.
my bad, that was regarding the remote controller
only DE2 and DH4 will work with it after the update
DH doesn't have the MU cable
are there any cars with MU passthrough capability?
no, as far as I'm aware there aren't any
So will the DE6 keep its remote capabilities for DPU duties for now?
DH4 does have MU
#dv-future-plans message
Bloody hell, I'm blind
I was looking at that very message and read it as not having MU
Pretty sure it doesn't (see link above) so to DPU a DE6 you'd have to MU it to something that does
Oh, didn't know DPU was that thing, sorry
When DPU is implemented, will we be able to do delayed breaking? Like I heard on real trains you can have the back of the train break first, then move up the line applying the breaks so they don't all run into eachother
hehe, MU sound go BRRRRR
But I do wonder if the DH and DM will have any uses once you unlock the DE6, cause even for the DE2, the little thing can pull pretty much infinite amounts as long as it's on a flat grade, and can do it with a fraction of the fuel, will the DH and DM have the same attribute? Making them invalidate the DE2?
I like the idea of DPUs controlled not by a remote signal, but by coupler pull strength. I think the very first ones did this, with a dedicated car, but every time I try and look I can never find an image of that.
Am I missing something or is this the exact same functionality as before?
Warnings were confined to single cabs so if you had 2 DE2s thrashing up a hill and had left one on run 8 and the other on run 7 with you in the run 7 cab. The wheelslip and overheat indicators in the run 8 cab would only display in that cab. Now they display on both. So you can look down. See the warning. See that the loco your in is not the issue and move back to the other locos cab to check. Basically saves you having to run back and forth all the time monitoring both locomotives.
Oh. I thought that was always the case!
Also lighting looks nice. When head and tail lights work across the entire unit. Instead of per loco.
No it's always been separate.
Controls have always been linked. So it would actually be impossible to run one in run 7 and one in run 8. Makes more sense if your grabbing a 2nd engine for MU rescue on an incline.
If you've ever stalled on a hill. And linked a second loco. The first one will have higher heat (depending on if you've been gone long to fetch one or spawned a helper.) Less fuel and oil and less sand normally.
So the warnings will pop up for the first loco in both cabs when the gauges get to be a issue.
Sorry for probably confusing you.
That must be it, I may never have come across two in separate conditions
I've had my fair share of overestimating the pulling power of a DE6 with dual Nuclear consists.
I've stalled on the second incline before and had to grab another DE6 from the iron or coal mine.
Good rule of thumb for the nuclear flasks. 1000t/DE6
Learned the hard way XD
I see
DE2, DE6 and DH4 have them
DE6 will no longer have remote capability. Only DE2 and DH4 will
DPU is a potential feature after Simulator, but yet to be confirmed (to clarify for anyone else reading this). I don't think it'd have delayed braking
in order to keep the implementation simple
hm, interesting. I guess that'll stop me cheating by sitting on the end of the train while reversing a mile-long train...
I like that idea, tbh it is a unusual locomotive to have a remote. Now that there's a new small locomotive, it's good to get rid of
Yeah, DE6 has been rebalanced to be quite unsuitable for shunting now
So no more abusing it because of its high power
And likewise DE2 is now more suitable for the job
I like that. For too long I've just used as an everything-loco. Now, we are forced to choose.
I usually use the DE2 for shunting.... what this remote thing makes me worried about is I can't run up ahead of the train to check the diverger switches (assuming that's what they're called?) Whilst also keeping an eye on the loco's speed and pull the breaks on a downhill/crank up the throttle on uphill
The term for that is 'fencing,' and with the length of trains in DRV it really wouldn't make much sense to do. Would it be cool? Yeah. I think Run8 is the only game that simulates that right now. But it's not like we're running multiple kilometer long ridiculous PSR behemoths over the Rocky Mountains, so its use would be limited for the amount of work it would take to get it right
Besides, you can duplicate that by using the remote to control trailing power. You don't have to do both controls at once.
Will the different locomotives be compatible?
Like DE2+DE6 or DE2+DH4?
Just.. They have different schemes of control
They are compatible, but need to be treated with care as the differences can lead to one wheelslipping or overheating sooner than the other
That's why those warnings now appear in all connected locos, if only one is experiencing a problem
If I drive DE as a pilot engine, and the train engine is DH.
Is it the TM warning will appear in the DE cab when the DH's hydraulic transmission overheats?
Will there be add a difficulty setting that will block the use of incompatible locomotives together (in future mb)?
Correct
For now not, but we can add it later if there's demand
