i dunno just had the thought seems like it would be a nice thing to have gondolas do other than scrap.

Historically, Gondolas could pretty much carry anything if you tried hard enough

Woodchip could be something nice to take from sawmill to, for example, harbor, to make things a bit more varied

Ah, that's true. I'd like to see lumber go to all of the different towns for construction purposes.

Why don't we carry rolling stock parts by ourselves and reduce maintenance costs? lol

If Simulator is successful we're planning a major job system rework, which would introduce woodchips (and train axles!) as cargo among more than 100 other types (of which 90%+ are already modeled).

With the same rework the cars are planned to be made more flexible to different types of cargo (as in real life), so gondolas would indeed be able to carry containers and other types of solid items if they fit, albeit at a longer loading time than a flatcar.

I hope we'll get to this right after release, but there's also a chance we'll never be able to afford doing it. Will see, depending on how the next few months unfold.

it goes from forests to cities/towns, woodchips are raw material, sawmill equivalent would be sawdust/wood shavings or something like that

paper pulp in bales, ~EPAL sized, perhaps, perhaps, not entirely convinced on my googling of texture for it being actually it, looks very regular paper
