This video is to get people across the basics of running a game in the Codex as quickly as possible. It barely scratches the surface of what it is capable of but in the vein of Matt's first Running the Game videos, its enough to get you running a game tonight.

I'm so excited about this! Can't wait to use it!
I will say, hiding the Create Token button (1:33) behind a right-click and the Draw Steel button (5:49) behind the Settings button feels like it obscures very common tasks. I would want to see a + button near a token area and a big obvious Draw Steel button.

The MCDM team and DMHub team are working with a contractor that specialises in UI/UX to come up with a redesign of interfaces so I’m sure all of these things will be considered!

In practice though, I will say you tend to only create tokens for players and important NPC’s so a little bit of work at the beginning but not a lot of ongoing work. The main token work after that is placing monsters from the Bestiary

Ok, excellent. Glad to hear it, because several of the elements and ethos feels like the 90s. I’m hopeful nonetheless. Thanks for the walkthrough!

I also want to acknowledge what you said about adding tokens. I add new tokens pretty often in my games, so I may be an outlier.

No problem 🙂

Yeah they are mainly focused on functionality at this point, refining and cleaning up the UI will happen as they go but probably a final push towards release

Absolutely.

You’re right, there are always tradeoffs when you add or remove interface, and I can appreciate that. I hope I can get involved at that stage and contribute whatever’s useful.

Ugh, I wish. We’re a Mac house. My understanding is it only runs Windows, yeah?

Oooh heck yeah! I’m gonna represent the heck out of the Mac users. Where can I sign up?
