Hey folks!

This is a repost of a removed thread. I am reposting it with the permission of the mod team.

If you don’t know me, I am a Youtuber and homebrewer that is active in Draw Steel. When the doors open and people start queueing up to get their Draw Steel content I’d like to have something to offer and see where it goes from there.

For other creators who are looking to do the same thing, I’d love to know who you are and what you’ve made and gauge interest in making some kind of collective – a syndicate maybe – for Draw Steel creators.

What use is a creator collective?

I think the primary use is that doing creative work alone sucks; that its just better and more productive to have other people doing what you do to talk to about it.

A secondary use is that groups have more weight than individuals when it come to dialoguing with MCDM and/or Codex.

Finally, a group could provide a way to form networks for promoting our art. I’ll mention your work, you mention mine, get people buzzing, that kind of thing.

Anyways, this is just an idea I had, and I wanted to see what other folks thought about it. Even if nothing gets made it will still be cool to meet more creators and see your work.

So, if you’re interested let me know who you are and what you’re working on. If I decide to pull the trigger, I’ll message you directly!

Hey, this seems very cool! I haven’t ever published anything (so far), but I have aspirations to do so. I’ve been creating homebrew content and campaigns for my friends playing 5e for almost a decade and I’m very excited about switching over to Draw Steel.
If you have room for me I’d love to be a part of it!

I am creating a free friendly all encompassing macro for Roll20 while we wait for the Codex to he ready. I would love to be a part of any Codex stuff. I am also slowly writing a Draw Steel adventure using the encounters from Priest and Thief as a proxy…anyways…I am not sure if that qualifies but I like being involved with things with this community and think this is a cool idea

Oh yeah, this is an interesting idea. I haven't published my work anywhere because the game has been in flux and my focus has been as a playtester more than independent creator. That said, I have adventures for each echelon of play sketched out and a few homebrew class ideas. But I have a dissertation to write that's taking up more time for me atm. I'm curious where this goes.

My first reaction is something involving the word "guild", but that's pretty common for fantasy stuff.

being related to a type of codex could work, but The Codex is already the VTT. Though since we are planning to make stuff for it, wouldn't be the worst to reference it.

I can’t think of a clever way to use this initially but I’m drawn to “guild” as a term. May give the incorrect impression of a literal worker’s union though.

Step 2: unionise

Jokes aside, I'd kinda fancy something based on Scrivener (or even scríbhneoir). Worldwrights also has an interesting ring to it. And while we probably can't use Codex, we could potentially use Codices if we can find an adjective or noun to go with it (and it might work nicer with it being a collective)

Another benefit you get with a collective (or cooperative) is that you can end up with skillsets that you'd normally not have access to on a small project, like proofreaders and editors. Stuff you'd end up doing yourself regardless of your skill, because you can't justify bringing someone in to do it for you.

If players are allegorical to both actors and audience in relationship to the Director, what are we who make stuff? Writers mostly, arguably producers, set builders, etc. in Hollywood every slice of film production seems to have a union, guild, or association (good!).

As we're building specifically for Draw Steel, we might use a similar theme, such as the Writer's Guild of Capital.

Or, should we use Alloy, because it's the city in between all the worlds?

I do agree with Jon that it should be avoided to use keywords heavily associated with MCDM and Orden.

I am working on a slow-burn stewardship campaign set in last days of Good King Osmund. Following a small town of political importance and growing as the heroes aid their hometown and align with factions. Oh, and the campaign starts at level 0.

I would be interested always happy to help with design, I just finished updating the tower of coins and swords, but I have confirmed that I cannot put that out. Was still a fun exercise. Currently designing a rune mage which has turned into a subclass for the elementalist. Could still evolve into its own thing but it is working as is so far.

Just so im clear on the core idea: as opposed to the homebrew channel (where finalized homebrew is posted), this collective would be more dedicated towards collaboration? Something like a github for DS community creators? Just making sure I understand correctly!

I do hope in the future it will be a good spot to try and find other people to directly collaborate on projects with. At the moment though the DS creator community is pretty small, so most people sort of directly know each other.
