I am running a 5e campaign set in a homebrew world, where conflict between kingdoms, peoples, and other factions plays a large role. I am looking for 'players' to control the various leaders and rulers of the world.

Asynchronous, play by post over discord PMs.

Every month of in-game time, I will send you a briefing on the events of the past month and ask you your goals and how you direct your armies, vassals, and agents to fulfill them.

Because this is based on in-game passage of time, the pacing will be unpredictable, so I appreciate your flexibility; do be aware that if i do not get a response in a reasonable timeframe, you may lose a turn or your spot may be given away

I have my setting document linked below, as well as a more succinct handout to convey the general vibes, please message me if interested or if you have any questions or ideas!

My setting is always evolving so contributions you think would make any of these more compelling are more than welcome

setting doc [work in progress, still codifying the fallout from my previous campaign]: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pumKdLqJhXIman9LyvHTQhlyrA6nWPckCjZheYouIvs/edit?usp=sharing

cunning dew

My last campaign lasted 23 in game months over 102 sessions

So roughly 1/ irl month on average

Do Mercy and Vigilance have their own states or are they just societies?

cunning dew

Order of Terror is more compact territorial block

awh man this looks awesome. I've always wanted to pull this off in my own games.

#

I'll galdly play a faction, i'm taking a look at the lore doc right now

#

Order of Mercy looks badass

#

Weeping Knights and penitent nobles?

#

hell yeah

#

The Sunflower knight is a cool title for the Vigilance guys too

#

I'd like to take the Mercy Knights if that's alright

pale summit
#

yeah I was a bit worried about being uninvolved since they seemd undead focused...but they also act as emissaries so that really sealed the deal

sharp rampart
#

Any update on when this starts?

tidal bear

going to experiment with a basic resource mechanic for January in-game , feel free to offer any feedback , ask any questions, make any comments either here or privately

you start off with a treasury score equal to the maximum number your treasury dice can roll i.e. 4 on 1d4 etc

go ahead and all roll your treasury dice and message me the results

add those numbers together to get your treasury score as of Jan 1

damn outing us all in chat huh /j

seems cool - if you want much more in the way of complexity I'd suggest just using an already existing rule set than building one up from scratch (like matt just ripped the diplomacy rules for capital)

as to offering feedback on the design so far the small numbers means a ton of this ends up being decided by the dice rather than the realm - I'd suggest a design where treasury dice are always or almost always d6s, with the scale of the domain determining the number you roll each month.

cunning dew
#

yeah i think starting out i want to keep the numbers small and the rules as simple as possible just for convenience

Are there ways to invest in elevating the treasury die? Are there events that can result in diminishing the treasury die?

cunning dew
acoustic hamlet
#

Those are definitely small numbers!

random notes

maintaining a court is pretty much a mandatory expense for rulers, so let me know if you want to set a 'default' level for future reference

raising armies and fleets in spring and disbanding them in fall after ~6 months is generally going to be cheaper than trying to maintain any standing forces

cunning dew
#

Un/favorable conditions can impose dis/advantage on an expense rolls; for example, dispatching emissaries and maintaining armies during winter are generally at disadvantage

Latter at least you can offset by maintaining your armies on enemy territory through pillage
