bit of a tip with std::chrono, try not to use .count(). it defeats the purpose of using it

instead of:

std::chrono::duration_cast<std::chrono::milliseconds>(
                     clock::now() - last)
                         .count() > 300

you can do (with using namespace std::chrono_literals;):

clock::now() - last > 300ms
