Seems like the categories are really branching out.

#

Seeding lots of different topics

#

Hope I didn't soil it

#

I want to set up the garden into an edible configration in the spring

#

The last of my marigolds have died out in the colder weather

#

I think in spring I'll look into plants that last all year if possible

unkempt quail
#

Aw

#

No chance they'd pop back up in spring? Or were they in pots?

dull hedge
#

They are in pots and were labelled as annual flowers so this is sadly just what happens with them

A fun thing I've began doing is yoinking dirt from the forest and then just planting it in a pot and seeing what crops up!

@rapid jewel some flowers from my gardens the past couple years

#

(sorry if you only cared about the petunias, thought maybe you'd like the others 😅)

(I don't really have a particular favourite tbh, just like a good flower from time to time)

#

I so wanna have like blossoming trees in my hypothetical garden

#

Are those hydrangeas? Did you know they have cyanide in them 👀

It's finally warm enough to plant seeds where I am. Today I planted carrots, green beans, peas, corn, shallots, and garlic.
Towards the end of April, I'll plant herbs and tomatoes. I'm so excited gardening season is finally here!

And after today

#

Two tomatoes, jalapeno and strawberry in the pot

nice
I just weeded (most of) my vegetable garden(s) a couple days ago, and we planted tomatoes, peppers, iirc some strawberries and a couple other things
we still have white radish, carrots, garlic, and onion from last year growing

#

I took before/after shots but didn't realize that they were at different angles until after I'd gone in 😅

#

was 30°C and humid and I sweat through my tank top but I managed to mostly clear out the gardens, ha

#

also that leafy shit that was growing everywhere is catnip
we planted it like once but it's invasive af

#

don't have a before for this one but you can somewhat see the onion and garlic growing well

#

also I think we're starting to regret using planks for the base of the gardens
shit has not been holding well these past few years; some of the boards are rather loose, and all of it is buckling

#

found a photo from 2019 when we had just finished it. crazy seeing the lack of makeshift fencing around the garden and the unpainted coop, let alone the lack of a pond and pergola

Been taking flower pics at the local park recently

we just changed up and added a bunch to our front garden, including that dogwood tree and the brick planters on either side of the step
(also including a photo from earlier today after I powerwashed the front step because it looks nicer now)

My garden progress this year. I have sweet peas, several herbs, corn, carrots, cucumbers, and green beans.

tepid wave

My elderberries and asiatic lilies

alpine burrow
#

Oh my gosh those are absolutely stunning

tepid wave
#

We have a good handful of these pink lilies spread through several of our gardens. Surprised by how many grew this year

#

My first big harvest this year. Patiently counting down the days until my corn is ready.

#

Big cukes
I want your green beans

alpine burrow
#

I planned Burpee's Porch Pick green beans this year. Really satisfied with the flavor

#

Lemme find them

tepid wave
#

Also dang are there a ton more carrots buried beneath the leaves or are they just really leafy

alpine burrow
alpine burrow
#

I turned the cukes into batches of dill and bread & butter pickles

tepid wave
#

We haven't gotten to harvest anything but a few strawberries so far
Tho I did pick some blackberries from one of the errant bushes that grew after some birds left the seeds behind in various locations around the property
Unfortunately the main bush that we'd had for over a decade died to a fungal infection last year or the year before

#

Someday i want to grow fruit, but that's way in the future

tepid wave
#

If you have the space for it I recommend apple trees whenever you decide to go for it
Really pretty in spring, and ours produce a decent account of apples in autumn now

alpine burrow
#

How many years did it take to produce?

tepid wave
#

Hmmmmm
iirc we got them as saplings a few years along and then transplanted them into our backyard... Was before we built the pond so at least like 5 or 6 years ago...
I really don't have specific numbers (could look it up but I'm on mobile and tired) but I'd guesstimate maybe a few years on top of however old they were when we got the saplings to produce decently-sized apples

#

Sorry that's not super helpful but it was a while ago 😅
Can ask my folks tomorrow if they know

tepid wave
#

This was one from last year

alpine burrow
#

No worries about not having the exact years. I asked because I've heard some varieties can take close to ten years to start producing.

All I can say is don't get pear trees, ha
My mom works in agriculture (primarily logistics for a large wholesale greenhouse) and has mentioned before how there was a fad a while ago of getting pear trees as decoration because they're admittedly pretty... But turns out they have short lifespans and have to be cut down, dug out, etc. and replaced after like a decade or so

unkempt quail
#

What about the partridge

tepid wave
#

It will pearish

alpine burrow

I knew there was a reason i didn't like pears

We planted a few tiny patches of moss near the pond a couple years ago (3 different species) and two of them really took off, especially the one with white flowers
You can still make out a couple patches of the dark brown leaf one tho

hazy canyon
#

Wait, moss? Moss doesn't have flowers, so is it just called moss or is it actual moss?

#

For example, spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) isn't actually a moss

#

Same family as the pineapple, btw

I came here to celebrate that one of my pumpkin plants finally produced a femal flower, which means if I play my cards right I can get a pumpkin this year MellowWow
