#if proper hardware is used same applies

cool
Still, i'll use cable wherever i can
good for you, same as I
More reliable, and from a security point of view, this is soo much better in soo many ways
For example, if your devices (server) ever connected to a open AP, i can just hijack that connection
I understand all of your points, but where I think we mismatch is the reality of HA usage
(depends on the configration ofcourse)
A server should never be able to connect to a open ap... if u set-up properly than the doesn't happen
HA is indeed a framework and can be used almost anywhere, even big corpo can use it if they want. But statistics show that people don't usually build big systems that (if brought down) will impact anyone
yes, sometimes wifi disconnects if radio conditions are bad. This shouldn't be noticed by most poeple
True, but there are quite some things that could go wrong, even if you just wanted to test with an open AP and then connect to a secured AP. You're server is still vulrnable
if misconfigured
but if user wants to use wifi there is usually good reason for it - ie. existing infrastructure doesn't allow easy cable access
Ofcousre, if you cannot hardwire it, and wifi is the only solution go for it
good, so we agree ๐
But if you have choice, go with cable
true
Then yes, we agree
But running a server on wifi is still a bit scary. It works, but personally i would stay away from it
Cons of wifi: Dropped signals, higher latency ,lowered speeds... so for HA no problem, if u can't use cable
dropped signals - retransmissions. Usually not a problem
Higher latency - 100% true
lowered speeds - in comparison to GbE, yes
My entire house system is connected to HA, losing connection to my AP is terrible
An issue that is kinda critical, mold can form as my bathroom vents are controlled by humidity
Yes, I have where I can everything connected to cable, but if my modem does not work, than my internet connection will be down. But I have wifi to connect to an emergency AP and still function.
mine too ๐ except relay that powers up ventilation fans is controllable via zigbee
I'd normally leave zigbee/ble gateway connected via wifi, but turns out gateway mobo has exposed ethernet 100Mb pins. So I went for it
good idea, I was thinking of connecting USB modem and using it in emergencies
soon I'll consider doing this as ethernet cable connected to server is exposed trough the entire house. Gonna get a dog soon...
can't imagine cable will be cut somewhere
Hahaha
I have my cables running in the basement to the whole house, also for outside I did burry the cable
Working on a brand new networking /server setup though
Nice
I know lol
is that the older AP Lite AC?
Its the pro
are you using openwrt or the stock ubi firmware?
oh, okay. I was using openwrt with the ac lite but it turns out half of the nvram gets unavailable after flash. Normally it is used as backup kernel image if main one is corrupted. Never managed to reclaim it ๐
Never tried running wrt on a ubi AP
Pro version probably has all the missing functions of lite like 802.11r so there is less point in changing it
