# scarlet creek sadly, it doesn't appear that public grafana dashboard support any kind of filte...

Thanks for sharing the link to the Grafana feature request. After reading it in detail, it would be genuinely disappointing if this were the direction forward.

As I understand it, one of the main goals of the device database is to serve the community as a comprehensive and interactive service around Home Assistant’s install base - including meaningful ways to explore and interact with the data. This is precisely the domain of modern business intelligence solutions. State-of-the-art BI tools are defined by dynamic interaction with both data and visualizations. Losing this capability would mean losing a core feature that is essential to the value of the service itself.

From my perspective (based on the discussions in the feature request and assuming the overarching goal remains unchanged) there are two viable paths forward:

  1. Provide a shared or standard login that enables filters and potentially other relevant interactive features, while still maintaining appropriate access controls.

  2. As the project is still in its early stages, this may be the right moment to change course and replace Grafana with an alternative open-source BI solution that can fully satisfy the community’s key requirements.

worry not, grafana is really just an interim solution so that we at least have an initial something for the community 😅
we haven't yet talked about if we will go with another BI solution, or maybe even build something entirely bespoke, but do expect improvements here

Taking this comment into account for option 2), Metabase could be an alternative.
