#System is extremely large but nothing actually exists on disk

I have had to uninstall addons and delete backups in order to avoud running out of room. 2gb has been used in the past 10 minutes.
I have made 0 config changes.
You are inside the addon though.
yes - sorry is that not what the guide says? install the ssh addon?
Not if you want to see all.
Addons can't see all the OS data by default but it's already explained in detail there.
I'm guessing it's just containers or old images. ha supervisor repair and docker system prune -a might be able to remove some of that.
Yeah the new containerd store uses a lot of space.
repair seems to be reducing size
damn. I regret "upgrading" to it then
it was a manual process too so could have avoided this
is there a way to un-migrate?
brutal. this should be mentioned in the update notes beside the command to "upgrade"
I suppose you could upgrade to a small SSD?
yeah just frustrating that this system worked fine for a very very long time and now suddenly the disk usage quadruples
Should be about 30% or so max more. Docker's prune might clear some more.
prune cleared almost nothing
It did quite literally quadruple unfortunately
repair seems to have cleared 4gb or so
Repair does basically the same.
so we are back to functioning. i will upgrade to an ssd
A more aggressive way is docker system prune -af --volumes but that is riskier.
Just make sure to use a powered USB HUB with a pi.
fyi check out the patriot supersonic rage prime. unbelievably stupid name but good product
very cheap, SSD performance, usb form factor. great for pis. have been holding off switching bc I am lazy 😆
I would not recommend that.
No. Get a proper full size SSD with proper wear leveling and SMART and so on.
I don't trust the small form factor not to overheat or be built worse. You also can't use it with a real PC in the future.
I own like 8 of em and use em for every pi I have. can't beat $40
But as long as it has more data and you're happy then it's fine by me.
well, repair seems to have solved my problem. but you shouldn't need to ssh in to do this
why is there not a repair button in web?
I bought 480G Intel SATA SSDs for 25-30 bucks a while ago. Now it's probably more,
brutal
Because HAOS is supposed to be self maintained. They don't expose a lot of system stuff.
I still can get a S4500 for 30.
the one click "unfuck this please" button i think should be exposed.
i had to delete backups to be able to install the ssh addon
Tell the developers 🙂
yeah we know that aint going anywhere 😆 i will just keep ssh installed and hope and pray that whatever caused this wont happen
if there is a bounty program or something I will put $50 cad towards web accessible repair button.
A keyboard and monitor can also be used. SSH should be installed by default. I argued for that since forever but eh...
I don't use HAOS myself so I can't be arsed to invest that much energy into it.
this has also halved my backup size. wtf.
@half stag seems like this might be fixed in 17.1? https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/tag/17.1
Yep.
