Hello im trying to get into home assistant and was wondering if people would be able to send some links to everything i would need, trying to futureproof, but not to expensive. it should cost less then 100 euros. i have a zigbee lidl gateway but i find it hard to controll every single device with it.

for around 100euro you could look for the home assistant green, if you spend a bit more, look for a 2nd hand (u)sff pc like lenovo, HP, Dell etc. that would be more powerfull and in regard to your "futureproofness" that would be the way i would go. Also, on those pc's you could run ProxmoxVE and run home assistant as a virtual machine and do other stuff on pc.

I have a deskmini x300 is that also suitable?

#

What exactly does proxmoxe mean?

lethal totem
#

virtualizing software. Install on pc, access it from any browser on network, run home assistant (HAOS) as a virtual machine inside proxmox. i'll throw some info links..

neat tree
#

So it is like a digital access on your sever?

#

Is a ASRock deskmini possible to use?

lethal totem
#

download, flash to usb stick, and install on pc. btw, what cpu and how many gb ram does your asrock have?

neat tree
#

How much energy does that consume?

lethal totem
#

should do just fine.

#

once installed, you can add home assistant from proxmox shell with 1 command (script) link follows

#

you can add other software on proxmox besides haos, and haos will be happy to run on your hardware.

neat tree
#

So the pc then needs to run 24/7 right?

lethal totem
#

total time 1 hour up&running

neat tree
#

What exactly are the advantages of home assistant Vs like using Lidl app?

#

These are my products I currently use for lighting

lethal totem
#

but can be hidden someplace with network. you dont have to physically access that machine anymore, you use browser to control

#

ha is local

#

๐Ÿ˜‰

#

no need for app, in case products are zigbee protocol instead of wifi, you'd need a zigbee dongle..

neat tree
lethal totem
#

ah ok, advise as first answer than..

neat tree
lethal totem
#

yes, using the right add-ons or integrations in haos.

neat tree
#

Do these also comply with the home assistant?

neat tree
#

To set the server up?

lethal totem
#

if using a zigbee dongle and have setup either ZHA integration OR zigbee2mqtt and mosquitto.

neat tree
#

I have a ZigBee gateway can I use that too?

lethal totem
#

Diff to set-up=no, and here is a lot of help, but i have to go now, other users will hop in and help further ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

back in a few hours

neat tree
#

bumb

#

any ideas?

lethal totem
#

If you are not going to use the pc for other stuff, a "bare metal" install as described in generic x86-64 works fine. Just disable secure boot in bios.

neat tree
#

And if I want to use my pc for other stuff i need a vm right?

lethal totem
#

yes

neat tree
#

How much energy does it consumre to havbe my home assitant on my fujitsu e782

lethal totem
#

might try virtualbox, but do not use latest versions, use 7.0 or so

neat tree
lethal totem
#

would do a google gemini or chatgpt for that, but i expect yearly costs of 40 euro maximum

#

but not a friend of running windows on laptop with virtualbox on top and also running haos as vm in it. At least that is my opinion.

neat tree
lethal totem
#

for haos only i think, yes. I am off now, work to do ๐Ÿ™‚

neat tree
#

How is this?

cerulean crow
#

I'm running my ha (docker, I hated haOS) on a rpi5, works great and it has a lot of other docker containers.

neat tree
#

Better than a laptop?

lethal totem
#

by the time you get a pi5, and add a powered usb-hub AND a SSD disk for use with ha, you'd be far over the 100 euro project.

#

and running docker means that you have no addons etc..

#

If you are starting with haos, want to be futureproof and want to keep in (somewhat) budget, again, look for ha green or buy 2nd hand (u)sff pc.

What do you think of these ZigBee Smart light switches?

#

Do they work?

lethal totem
#

yes, but... Philips hue is good but you can also look for INNR spots or the bulbs from IKEA, they are cheap right now and also good. For the switch, keep in mind it has a switching load of 6Ampere, so do not connect anything like washing machine, kitchen equipment, ovens etc to it, it will toast your switch and can be dangerous! TURN OFF POWER when mounting!!

#

And you need a zigbee dongle to connect them in home assistant.

neat tree
#

But it should not be directly connected to it

#

I wanted to have this switch cause all the time when I do turn the lights off manually, the switch stays of and the lights can not turn on automatically

#

And If it turns off to late and I want to turn them off they will stay off in the morning for example

neat tree
#

But how good are they?

lethal totem
#

Fine for white spectrum.

#

running those for a few years, no problems. Same as the hue's i have.

#

for rgb the hue's are best option for best colors

lethal totem
neat tree
#

Ok

#

And is sonoff the best way to do that?

#

Or is any other brand better than these?

#

Would you still choose the innr?

lethal totem
#

i like Shelly, installed the new 2PM Gen4 yesterday ๐Ÿ˜‰ wifi, matter, zigbee and bluetooth in one.

neat tree
#

So this?

#

But I do not have a neural wire

lethal totem
# neat tree

as said, for white spectrum go innr, for rgb colors go hue

lethal totem
# neat tree But I do not have a neural wire

with a bit of luck, Michael (Piezor) is reading this (soon or now) he can tell you more about shelly. But i would suggest creating a new thread for that and mention Germany in it, so it will be noticed ๐Ÿ˜‰

lethal totem
neat tree
lethal totem
#

nein nein nein... ๐Ÿ™‚ dont ping, a lot of users are reading..

neat tree
#

Ok ๐Ÿ‘

lethal totem
#

be a bit patient for reactions, cause we are all diff timezones and it's a busy time of the year ๐Ÿ˜‰

neat tree
#

Yeah you are right

lethal totem
#

also you can take a look for shelly without neutral

#

googlie thingy

#

The Shelly 1L Gen3 (and/or Shelly 2L Gen3) offers a smart, no-neutral-required solution https://kb.shelly.cloud/knowledge-base/kbuca-smart-lighting-without-neutral-wire-using-sh

The Shelly 1L Gen3 (and/or Shelly 2L Gen3) offers a smart, no-neutral-required solution, enabling homeowners and professionals to easily automate and control lighting without modifying existing infrastructure. Designed to work with any switch or light, it provides a fast, flexible, and cost-effective way to bring intelligent lighting control to ...

#

here you go

neat tree
#

This one then

#

Yeah

#

Costs a lot more mindblown

#

Why is shelly better then sonoff tough?

lethal totem
#

can use sonoff too, but if i give advice, i do from personal experience. I am happy with shelly because i use them without any issues, sonoff i dont know and i cant give advise without hoping it works

#

๐Ÿ™‚

#

but will be fine too, just dont use tuya related products though, that i can advise

#

but pls create a new thread, as this will help you more efficiently

neat tree
#

So how can I install the home assistant server onto my laptop?

#

I am currently creating a bootable usb Linux device is that right?

neat tree
#

I have that

#

It works but I can not add my govee lights for example

#

Is that right?

dreamy saddle
# neat tree Is that right?

I don't know what step you are at. you asked about installing and now you are talking about integrating something. do you have a working install now?

neat tree
#

Yes I have finished that

#

It does not work it is Modell h6143
