I'd like to edit the default "Home" or "Climate" dashboards but I don't see a way to do that in the UI, is it necessary to recreate the dashboards from scratch?

source viewable? surely it resolves to a yaml file somewhere

It might be old information, but for the default home dashboard if you use the function, “take control” under edit dashboard you get the yaml for the current dashboard. It stops updating automatically though
