WiFi devices being cheaper than zigbee, I wonder if e.g. a tuya wifi device can be connected locally to Home Assistant. It can be done for Zigbee devices, but not WiFi? WiFi probably drains battery faster so the price difference may be negligible.

If a vendor decided it works locally then it does? So possible T-Link etc. but not Tuya-certified? Or different hub device is needed? I've got WiFi/BT/Zigbee hub from Tuya that i'm not using currently, instead a USB zigbee dongle is being used.

Probably once such hub gets custom firmware then it may bridge BT and WiFi?

dont buy tuya
absolutly do not buy wifi tuya

its not worth the savings. you will spend half your life trying to make it work and the other half resetting/repairing them when the randomly fail.

if your looking for a particular type of device then you can ask in #1284966353798697001 with the recommendations tag to see what people suggest for specific devices.

zigbee devices by their nature are local only. wifi devices like to call home. if you use a zigbee device with a companies "hub" then the hub will be calling home and can then restrict the localness. if your using zigbee then you should be using your own coordinator to keep things local.

i have few dozen tuya devices, zero issues, instant pairing, never disconnected past 2 years.
mostly smart plugs with power meter, temperature, door/window open status, vibration sensing - didn't have to charge even once yet.

air quality device seems crap, but so they say in the manual (reports similar value almost all the time, didn't try to fart into it.,)

ok, so as suspected, their firmware would likely need to be modified, or at least hub's or router's

thanks

its kinda random if it works or not I think. it depends on if they blow the internal fuse in the ESP to prevent firmware overwrite.

ok, definitely not worth the hassle for few bucks

really? i think tuya sells more than all others combined. and for basic features like humidity, power meter etc. you cannot go wrong
