I’m planning to install a smart switch near my door and another by my bedside to control other smart switches around the house — for example, triggering scenes like “Leaving Home” or “Sleeping.”
Can I configure the button press actions through Home Assistant?
Also, would this setup work for both neutral and non-neutral versions of the switch?
#Can a smart switch function wirelessly with only the live wire connected (no load)?

Depends on the switch. Some non-neutral switches require a minimal load or a bypass device.
You can use ZigBee remotes, like the Ikea ones. Working with battery, no need neutral or live. Once connected wirelessly to HA, you can make whatever you want. That's the HA function 🙂
Ah I am planning to use aqara or moers ZigBee switches, my electrician has pulled a live and neutral for me at my door/bedside . So I am wondering if I can make use of it rather than the wireless battery version 😅
So it would work if it's a neutral switch with loads being left open?
Neutral switches don't work without neutral. Using it with neutral but no load attached to the relais might work witch caveats.
Not all switches can be used in detached mode (detecting switch action without switching the relais) or expose the switch state to HA. It depends on the switch.
I have some ZigBee Sonoff switchs, with neutral and without it
The ones with neutral doesn't need a load. It's literally as if you plug in to a wall plug.
The ones without neutral are a total different story. They need a load because they need a closed circuit to let pass a minimum amount of energy to make the device works.
But that is to the devices I have. I don't know the models you say
Anyway, look for a good electrician to make any electrical modifications 🙂
Thanks this helps! I will give it a try with a neutral switch
