Hello! I'm just starting out, and am looking to setup some indoor & outdoor lightning, and be able to control this... to begin with..

I'd like some suggestions on the setup that I have thought about:

  • Raspberry Pi with HA installed (Green?)
  • Zigbee usb stick
  • Ikea light bulbs or Hue?
  • I'd like to add some sensors, any brand that you would recommend?

Our house is 1800 sqft, and I'm not sure about the 10-20 meters range on the Zigbee is enough?

Hope you can help me 🙂

  • Don't get a pi: https://gist.github.com/Impact123/6ee130240bdc6a7fed2d5224616544a0
  • SLZB-06
  • Whatever you can afford. I have lights from both and no strong preference
  • What kind of sensors? People tend to hate tuya (Moes sells tuya based stuff too) but their zigbee stuff works for me
Zigbee is a mesh network. Have enough routers spread around.

Ikea ZigBee stuff is cheap and reliable

A small (U)SFF machine from Lenovo, HP, Dell, etc off of eBay. N100 Mini PCs are popular and cheap too.
