It is my understanding that I should be able to make timers by simply talking to the assistant. I have tried many things and I can't seem to be able to get them to do anything related to timers. I am using it in my browser, am I missing an entity that needs to be exposed or some set up that I missed. I just keep being told that this device does not support timers.

Timers in satellites are device-based. They're not exposed to the HA, as there's no good way to do it. Since you can have multiple timers running, it would require dynamic entity creation and deletion (on timer run out).
In Respeaker/Koala firmware i have (experimental) entity, that exposes time to next closest timer.
