@limpid peak You need to install Frigate first. The integration is for connecting an existing Frigate instance to HA. https://docs.frigate.video/frigate/installation

Frigate is a Docker container that can be run on any Docker host including as a Home Assistant Add-on. Note that the Home Assistant Add-on is not the same thing as the integration. The integration is required to integrate Frigate into Home Assistant, whether you are running Frigate as a standalone Docker container or as a Home Assistant Add-on.

Actually it works. But it's not good you edit the config, it says do you want to restart. And then it seems to crash and you have to go in and try to start it manuall

prime cloud
#

the UI doesn't let you save the config if it's invalid

This is not very good. I added the config for Coral TPU, walk away while it does it's 60 second restart thing and all I get is:

Bad gateway Error code 502

I go back:

Frigate

The add-on is not running. Do you want to start it now?

#

Then it works!?

#

Twice in a row

prime cloud
#

ah I assumed you were running HA Container since you mentioned running docker ps

limpid peak
#

Yes I go to the console of HAOS, type "login" and it takes you to a real shell

prime cloud
#

Sadly I don't think I'll be of much help since I don't run HA OS or Supervised

I enable detection, what happens next? It just magically makes detections?

prime cloud
#

By default, it will detect cars and people, but there are ways to configure that

#

recommend reading through the docs as there are tons of configuration options

limpid peak
#

I dunno, I walked by the camera and nothing happened. I don't want to enable recording and full up the disk, but it shows 0 alerts & 0 detections

prime cloud
#

again, you're going to want to read through the docs

limpid peak
#

Is there a quick start guide? I don't want to be trying to debug 1000 YAML Options just to see if this can even work

How many hours did you have to spend to have it show you something detected?

prime cloud
#

I originally set up Frigate years ago, so I don't totally remember, but I don't think it took long to have a basic setup going

#

configuring it to work precisely how you want to work can certainly take a while though

limpid peak
#

Do I need to record for it to detect? Or can it just watch the stream and log the detections?

prime cloud
#

no, recording 24/7 isn't required for that

Check that you have the enabled flag set somewhere, either in the overall detect config, or at the camera level.
